Yeah I love that I'm kind of ethnically ambiguous looking. It's great for travel. I speak Spanish, so when I travel to Latin America, it's neat to blend in. And, though I don't speak Arabic, I can similarly blend in when I used to travel to the Middle East too!
Love this!! Thank you for elevating the Ohana Hawaiian culture of mixed races in Hawaii. It is quite different than living in the Mainland. Keep posting about Hawaiian culture. ❤️
Your story of being happy in an interracial blended family gives me hope that parents from more traditional backgrounds can be more open-minded about who their children want to date/marry. I am a second-generation Chinese-American and my parents were first-generation immigrants. It's unfortunate that as a second-generation, what I've experienced is oftentimes feeling very stuck as if I don't really belong as a Chinese or American because my parents are still very much in the bubble of their own traditions and how they grew up in their countries and there is sort of that unspoken expectation that they prefer their children to be with someone of the same race and cultural background. And for them, I am frustrated that they still tend to very much separate people by race and judge the character of people based on their ethnicity or how they physically look. I am have never been in a relationship with anyone but I have a female cousin who has been in a very serious relationship with an Indian man who she fell for during their college years (she is also a doctor) and next year they are getting married. I know her parents did not like her dating someone of a different race and a different faith (he is Hindu but only keeps to certain customs and is not super religious) and at one point even her sister was against the relationship all because their parents did not agree. I know parents want the best for their children but that's one of the things in life I feel parents need to take a step back from because what is ultimately important is that their child is in a happy loving relationship no matter what ethnic background the significant other comes from.
It's tough. I understand the need for immigrant parents to hold onto what they know. But, ultimately, at the end of the day, my parents recognized that the most important thing was my husband's values and not his race. I'm sure your parents will come around. All parents just want their kids to be happy. And, the unknown is scary for them. When they realize you have met the right person, they will change their minds about their beliefs.
Hey! Just curious, did your cousin’s parents and sister eventually accept the relationship? I am also in an interracial relationship so I understand your message.
@@animalcrossing1233 Yes, they did accept him but it took a while. For a time, my cousin's father pretended as if she did not have a boyfriend at all because he really wanted her to go the traditional route of finding a spouse of the same ethnic background. But I think the more they got to know her boyfriend, they saw that he wasn't a bad person. I also think it helped that they went to school together and shared mutual friends in their social circles so her parents felt like the relationship was more stable. However, now the problem has transferred to my cousin's sister who is with an Jewish man who is at least 10 years older than her... Her father met him only once and disliked him ever since... He even warned her not to bother returning home ever again and that he wouldn't be attending her wedding. Personally I feel her father judged the guy too quickly based on first impression without giving the latter more chances. It's sad that he is being this stubborn. This is his daughter, and is he really willing to spend the remaining part of his life like this?

Hi from South Africa 🇿🇦. My husband & I are Indian & our families have been here for several generations... since the 1860's. My mums Telegu speaking while my dad & in laws were Tamil speaking. We're Christians but hold on to our culture. It was brilliant to hear your eldest son saying he loves Indian food & eating with his hands. We eat nearly everything that way. I adopted a Black child 24 years ago & now he calls himself " Blindian" . Sometimes I think he's more Indian than us because he eats with his hands like a pro. So glad you're teaching the children Chinese & Tamil & to address grandparents in Tamil etc. Best wishes to you & your family

I came across your channel by chance. I’m an Indian living in Germany :) I liked watching this video. Your children are beautiful and so well-behaved. I know few TamBrahms and I must say you guys are very intelligent :D
Thank you so much 🙂 I am glad you stumbled upon my channel. Please let me know in the comments what you think about my other videos!
This was a great video! Really enjoyed it and I learnt a lot!
Aww, thanks for watching and for your kind comments.
Thanks so much for being real and genuine! I really appreciate that you voice matters like this. Having grown up as a daughter of a Bangladesh father and an El Salvador mother was quite challenging, even in LA. But from an early age my family taught me the beauty of our cultures and that stuck with me. Thanks for sharing an insight into your life and keep up the awesome work!
I am from Bangladesh!!!! I am currently in Chicago but I am only here for education rn. Bangladeshi parents are generally very conservative so it's refreshing to see families like yours because it shows me that there are people outside the traditional Bangladeshi norms.
@@zawadsadaf9194 I'd like to hear more about your story. Let's communicate 1-on-1 and share!
You guys would fit right in over here in Canada!
We go skiing every year at Whistler and we love it = first, everyone pronounces my son, Nikhil's name properly (here, they say Ni-KEEL) and second, so many Indians and Chinese people who are second, third or fourth gen like us!
Canada is 78 percent indian XD
You & your family are so beautiful omg!! 🌺🌸🌼
Thanks so much Daisy!!
World is beautiful when u met beautiful people whatever the religion race etc we only get one life live peacfully with love ones.
Such a beautifully expressed sentiment and I totally agree!
Damn this was such a positive video, man I loved it.
Very nice ♥️! In Singapore and Malaysia it’s very common to see many Tamil & Chinese couples.
Wow hello
I am a nanny and worked for American Indian and American Chinese couple who happened to be physicians. She was Chinese from Hawaii. A truly enjoyed working for them and their kids, I love the story about moon cakes, and Indian food and everything else.
Nice vid as mom tries to educate the kids thier chinese & indian roots and dont be shame of who they are regardless of religion..dr rupa wong would be great if the kids can speak mandrin & tamil as they look so adorable..cheers
Aww her daughter is soooo adorable 👶🍼🐣
Thank you! She loves being in front of the camera. She desperately wants her own channel, but we're careful...
I like your video and the way you interact with your kids. I am from Manipur state and living in Pune.
thanks so much! My aunt (uncle's wife) is originally from Pune. I believe they met in medical school there.
It's wonderful how you emphasize your cultural for your children. So mindful and just lovely to see!
I am soooo happy to see your family 🤗 bless you all 🥰 such a loveing family 😍🙏🇮🇳
It is nice to see two dedicated parents helping their three children with the life-time prevention of myopia, by use of daily Atropine, while they still have 20/20.
For me, that makes perfect scientific sense!
Both my parents are chindian and I’m chindian too...
You can easily pass for half black white or mixed Latina
Yeah I love that I'm kind of ethnically ambiguous looking. It's great for travel. I speak Spanish, so when I travel to Latin America, it's neat to blend in. And, though I don't speak Arabic, I can similarly blend in when I used to travel to the Middle East too!
Love this!! Thank you for elevating the Ohana Hawaiian culture of mixed races in Hawaii. It is quite different than living in the Mainland. Keep posting about Hawaiian culture. ❤️
Tatha was crying. Awww ❤️❤️
Tatha was totally crying....I know my hubby will likely do the same! I'm a daddy's girl, what can I say!
Thatha paatti tamil ❤️
Such a beautiful family! You are amazing and so are your children!
My boyfriend is indian and i am chinese indonesian. But havin trouble of disagreement with our parents . . Pls pray for me n my lover so we can go through dis n make it happen 😍😍🙏🇮🇩🇮🇳

Hey Rupa 👋 Just subscribed - hello from London! 🇬🇧 Love your family content, really positive to see how lovely & different it can be to live in other parts of the world (especially with everything going on right now). Keep it up, I look forward to your future stuff! ☺️
Thanks Louisa! Sorry that I just saw this comment. I know, crazy times we're living in, but trying to maintain positivity as much as I can!

Thank you Julie!
i look forward for the day when people will say oh you are from earth, so glad to run into you fellow human
That would be pretty cool!
I came to your video because of the magnetic lashes and then happened to click on this one. Beautiful family! Interestingly, my uncle is Vietnamese American and married an Italian American and both are optometrists as well 😊
That's so interesting - we call our kids Chindians, your nieces/nephews would be...Vitalians? Anyway, thanks for sticking around and watching this video and thanks for your kind comments. Hoping to do one on our crazy multi-cultural wedding (gawker called us that!).lol
@@DrRupaWong Vitalians! Love it 😄
A lot my family are mixed either Asian- Filipino- Japanese or Pacific Islander Polynesian Hawaiian
Nice! I am Indian and my wife is Filipina. Our kids are lovely and embrace both cultures!
@Quotable hi 👋 homie
This video was great 😊👍 your kids are sweet and Arya is wonderfully talkative, like me.
Btw i have seen your lash growth ingredient video and the magnetic lash video too. In this video, you have great lashes!! What are you using?? I would prefer something better for my lashes, health wise.
you are soooo beautiful. seriously!
You are too kind!! Thank you!
I come from a mixed background of Chinese, Indian, Spanish. I also agree that Hawaii is a place where you can feel accepted without too many presumptions or assumptions in regards to Ethnicity.
Your parents from Chennai (Madras) means they are Tamils. Your husband family surname Wong means he's Cantonese. Your type intermarriage is common in Singapore and Malaysia. Most Indians here are Tamils and Telegu while Chinese are mostly Hokkien, Cantonese and Hakka.
Absolutely! Plus she said his mom is called Po Po by the kids. Pretty sure that’s Cantonese
I live in Hawaii and like your husband a 4th generation Chinese American. My great grandparents arrived in Hawaii in 1880.
one of my oldest friends is indian. i cannot wait for her to get married so i can dress up in a sari!
My in laws said they felt like royalty dressing up! I'm planning on doing a video on how i planned our wedding!

Just subscribed to you channel. Love your channel. You have such a beautiful family. I am from South Africa and our country also has a lot of multiracial families here.
Hi Rupa, your kids seem very sweet and grounded. Seems like a good life there in Hawaii.
Your kids call your parents paati and tata, love that😍

So nice to see another chindian family :)
White+Indian=Arab
Chinese+Indian=South East Asian
Hawaii is super diverse from what i read
Omg I love this video, your kids are adorable!
Your kids are beautiful! Your family is beautiful!
wow 5th generation chinese american then he must be descended from the chinese workers who arrived in SF during the gold rush era back in the 19th century
Actually there were Chinese businessmen that emigrated to Hawaii in the late 1800s and his great-great grandfather was one of them. His family has been in Hawaii ever since (he and I met on the mainland in NYC during our residency training and he convinced me to move to Hawaii!)
@@DrRupaWong that's some interesting info! thanks :)
Did your in-laws have a good relationship with you and your family from the beginning? Also, your kids are so sweet! Mashallah
I just stumbled upon your channel and I don’t know, I just want to move to Hawaii so bad! Hello from Singapore 🇸🇬 what an amazing mom you are and such bright and sweet children you are raising. Subscribed and will continue watching more of your videos
Um it’s really easy to raise mixed kids in Hawaii bc everyone here is mixed lol. I grew up here and I’m hapa all my friends are mixed
I think it's easy to be mixed, but not so easy to be part Indian since there are so few Indians here on the island. But that acceptance is what I love about Hawaii and how hubby convinced me to move here.
@@DrRupaWong if you’re only looking at being Indian but not being mixed I guess? But no one really cares about what kind of mix you are unless you’re hawaiian trying to go to Kamehameha schools. But growing up I never cared about what my other mixed friends were bc no one talks about it bc we all share each other’s cultures as long as you or they are opening to sharing it with the community and friends
I have a nephew and a niece, who are mixed Vietnamese, Filipino, and Indian who lived in Texas.
I enjoy looking your video.. It was so amazing and lovely family.😍.. I hope I get a life like You all.. Marrying interracial.. I think it will be so interesting😜
It's beautiful to learn about other cultuers!
As a Native Hawaiian, Portuguese and German I Miss Home so much but gotta serve my country and I'll be back home!!! People on the mainland are strange to me!!! No respect for one another!!!!
