I got to stand ten feet in front of Kanami for two hours, last August in Minneapolis. It was amazing. Well, BAND-MAID is amazing. Even so, Kanami is one of the world's greatest rock composers, on top of being an incredible guitarist.
MISA MISA MISA! I started playing bass when I was 14 years old (back before five string basses were even available) Watch closely to MISA’s first solo run and you’ll see she hybrid picks, picking and then once plucking up with her ring finger. That’s just one of the little things she does that makes her an important bassist for younger players to notice. She’s also extremely creative with her playing inside songs, including the entire fretboard with her basslines. And her playing naturally includes lots of ghost notes and muting techniques, in a very natural way, to make her instrument very much a part of the entire rhythm section with Akane. She uses multiple techniques to get the sounds she wants and, arguably, has one of the best rock bass tones I’ve ever heard. Right up there with RATM Tim Commerford for me. I suspect she’s more talented than she appears to be inside Band Maid, because they aren’t a “show off” kind of group. They all play for balance and serve the song. I’m curious as to what she does when she just lets loose!
Best rock band ever! Every member is the best at their craft. Miku, although the back up vocalist and rhythm guitarist, can sing lead on most groups and is a killer lyricist. I LOVE this group of ROCK stars!!
Also, Miku's rhythm guitar and A-Chan's drums during the duet 👩🍳😘 It's like Akane and Kobato are a trampoline, and MISA and Mincho are just bouncing having a good ole time
Nothing the Triumvirate does is simplistic to me. That's why I need to keep listening. I have no suggestions for other current bands. I listen to other bands new stuff when it comes out but nothing hits me like BAND-MAID. It's just a weird situation that the only current band I consistently listen to is BAND-MAID. Peace. 1.2
You should check out the little known NZ hard rock band Devilskin. Their female singer is insanely good. They do bangers ruclips.net/video/zZs4NZ5BnJg/видео.htmlsi=8pHfWMkY9TJ8aQ1C and ballads ruclips.net/video/H5T1uBBtAh4/видео.htmlsi=zxRV2uOzHIhYcQLl
MISA is the bass player. All caps, no last name. The Barefoot Assassin. likes her Jim Beam. Miku put the band together, started as lead singer then decided they wanted the harder sound so Miku STEPPED BACK! and they hired Saiki (Sigh-ee-key). Akane, the drummer, is almost always smiling. She loves to perform. During the "battles" (I hate that word, call and response?) don't forget the drummer. All these musicians atr top tier. You're catching the bug buddy. You're becoming a Madiac! Know this. They go softer, they go harder. We like to say that their genre is Band-Maid and they hard rock with punk, pop, metal, prog, alt, pop-punk with a little jazz and blues sprinkled in for flavor. Don't dismiss the softer stuff you come across. It's tasty too.
To keep a band as good as this together for over ten years. Each of them have to have a major roll to play. One writes most of the music but the other collaborate into what sounds good. Another writes most of the lyrics but the singer also writes a few as she did with this song. They each have solos and the singer sorts out the running order of the songs. Designs clothes and jackets. Each have their moment in the spotlight. They are pretty unique when it comes to live shows as it is based on the popular Maid Cafes in Japan that Miku the rhythm guitarist and founder used to work in. She has her little comedy spot of getting the audience to call and respond as they do in Maid Cafes. They keep getting better and hopefully continue to do so.
This performance is EPIC! 😎 Seen them play live twice. Played for round 2 hours each show. Best 2 concerts ever been to! ♥ I suggest these Band Maid songs: Thrill, Dice, Manners, Bubble, Blooming, No God (live) Warning (live), Don't You Tell Me (live) & Puzzle (live)
Both Kanami and Dany from The Warning play PRS guitars, specifically a Custom 24-08 (and sometimes you'll catch them with a Custom 24 instead of a 24-08). The bird inlays are standard on most PRS models.
The bird inlays on Kanami's guitar are standard on a lot of models from the Paul Reed Smith guitar company. Each inlay is actually a different species. I believe there is a hummingbird in there, and an owl, but there are like four hawks and falcons. The lyrics to this are indeed a giant diss track. The husband of a friend of Saiki's cheated on her during the COVID lockdowns, and this song is pretty direct. The lyrics in the second verse are pretty funny insults.
From PRS Website Starting from the nut and going towards the bridge the inlays are: Peregrine Falcon Marsh Hawk Ruby Throated Hummingbird Common Tern Coopers Hawk Kite Sparrow Landing Storm Petrel Hawk Landing Screech Owl On A Branch (24-fret models only)
Props for trying stuff out side your comfort zone. Have you heard of the genre City Pop? Popular in Japan during the 80's, it is about setting a vibe. Try Plastic Love by Mariya Takeuchi. For a modern take try With You by Cluppo. Cluppo is a side project of Miku, second guitarist of Band Maid.
I'm glad you noticed Kobato come in on rhythm at 5:40. Miku is very underrated for not even playing a note when the band started. Listen to her solo work Cluppo (Peace and Love) (With you) both excellent compositions and lyrics. Or her singing Sayonakidori with just Akane and MISA. P.S. MISA really shines on Sayonakidori Acoustic version.
Poor Mincho. Writes the songs, plays on average about 20 notes for every one from MISA, counter melodies galore, even throws in the occasional backing vocal. Last one praised. #JusticeForMincho! ;)
Ha, agreed. I think Kanami suffers from the fact that everyone expects cool lead guitar in hard rock and metal but there have been very few bands who feature the bass the way they do. It feels very novel. And not everyone's aware that she's the musical engine of the band. Band-Maid wouldn't sound anything like Band-Maid without her. In a recent interview, Misa mentioned her own playing used to be much simpler/more basic. When asked why her playing has evolved so much, her answer was that it had to because of the band's music. Now who do you suppose should get a lot of the credit for that?
Dude, kudos to you for broadening your horizons. I know what you meant but when you listen to what Misa is playing throughout the whole song, there's nothing simplistic about it. What makes her so good is not just her multiple techniques and technical ability but how sophisticated and musical she is while playing all over the fretboard. There are lots of stunning techincal players in hard rock and metal. Not as many are truly sophistcated and musical. FYI, I've been a metal guy (and failed musician) for many years but have always enjoyed other genres, particulary bands like this one who hybridize modern hard rock, metal, punk, and alternative rock. There's a lot of great music out there when you open your ears to new things.
@JasoDip you don't know the half of it. The cutesy-est of the Maids with a will of iron ~ like a lace covered brick. You can outplay her you can out sing her but you'll never out work her. No Miku no BandMaid indeed!
I am not sure if you have checked out the band Nemophila yet. If not, I think they should be in your near future. You seem to be a Zen live or Dissension kind of person. Or you can just go to their channel and pick whatever looks interesting.
I don't care how many boxes need to be ticked this band of musical unicorns checks them all, truly a once in a lifetime phenomenon, what a fcken band Po 👍🍻
This is not my comment, but borrowed one, calling Kanami and MISA ,"A Six String Samurai and a Five String Assassin!" Very accurate and cool! All these ladies rock! Don't piss off Saiki! Take that Taylor Swift!
@@JasoDipand then they did a follow up show a few weeks later to play over 20 songs that didn't fit into this set. Saw them in Nashville last May and was the best small venue show of my existence
