  • How do you bend your first piece of flashing with a Van Mark portable sheet metal bending brake?
    **********************************
Bending your first piece of flashing with a portable sheet metal brake can be intimidating if you aren't familiar with the process. Each brake is slightly different, and there are specific methods to bend and hem efficiently and effectively. In today's video, Thad Barnette is joined by Gary from Van Mark to learn how to bend a simple piece of drip edge using the Metal Master 20 industrial brake.

It takes alot more strength and effort to bend metal when its 10 feet long. They made it look easy with that small piece.😂

lol right? Bend me a 10' stick of .24 ga and show that it's straight and I'm sold.

That’s exactly what I was thinking when I saw that little piece

This coming Wednesday I've got a video where we bend 10' pieces of 24-gauge. We have two people on the brake because it absolutely does take more effort! But, I'd rather have two guys making a couple pieces of flashing onsite than my whole crew waiting around for someone to run back to the shop to bend some extra trim. -Thad

@@TheMetalRoofingChannel I'll keep an eye out for it, I have an older van mark and tapco and have always just used them for small detail work until I got a schectl ukv.

Try hemming a full size piece… That brake is garbage. The last van mark I will ever buy. Bought a brand new metal master 14’6. Notice how he says pre load the hinge to hem? Try hemming a full size piece. Damn near impossible. Called van mark and they directed me to a pdf that says “slightly lift piece up before hemming”. In short, its a design flaw. And if you have a full size sheet, hemming will take multiple attempts of “preloading the hinge”. Other brakes hem without effort. This one, you need all 8 planets to align with the sun to get it to hem. Van mark lost a customer for life after I disposed of my brand new metal master that was only used on one job for half the price I bought it for.

What brand do you have now that makes the hem without so many attempts?
