The Porsche 911 GT2 RS has set a new production car lap record at Road America, completing the 6.5 km road course with its 14 turns and multiple elevation changes in just 2:15,17 minutes. 24 Hours of Daytona and Le Mans class winner David Donohue took to the wheel of the 911 GT2 RS in favorable weather conditions and only needed two laps to do so, underscoring not just the track capability, but also the approachability of the car.

177 mph on the straight, and then slams onto the brakes into an 80 mph turn. Don't underestimate how difficult it is to control a car doing that, and yet this GT2RS handles it like it's no big deal. No rattles. No squeaks. Lap after lap after lap of engineering perfection.
I am very used to motorsports, racing, karting, sim racing and what not. For some reason, this onboard gave me the feeling that this car was being pushed into a nanometer of it's limits! It was awesome, yet terrifying!

Road America is one of the greatest race tracks in the US in my opinion. My family has a lot of history with the track and has always loved Porsche. Thank you Porsche for setting a record with an absolute beast of a car that will always be remembered.

Porsche is so dominant they come out of retirement, win LeMans a bunch of times. Then before retiring the car they use it to set a few track records faster than F1. Then ho-hum, lets take last years car and go smash some more records. Two laps later down goes Road America. Of course. They have an unfair advantage. They are Porsche.

720s destroys beats it both in a straight line and around tracks. Chris Harris said the 720s is "the best car you car buy....it's genius."
Tyran Mathurin and because of that are some many lap records made by McLaren, all in all zero......there is not one offical time of any race track made by McLaren. Best car money can buy alongside the the 720s... although they were made for different purposes. But my choice would be without doubt the GT2RS... with the MR kit.

And then celebrate by making a new version of the Challenger, this time called the "Fuck Yeah FREEDOM Edition", that's literally just an NHRA Pro Stock with license plates. 9's in the quarter mile? Ironically there is very few AMERICAN laptimes on at this track. I'm getting a ZL1 1LE as a birthday present to myself. That car is a certified trackday animal and its not even on the leaderboard here. Weird huh.

This dude set a record while risking the car 7+ times. This isn't skill or engineering, this is a driver taking a ton of risks and got lucky/it paid off. Dude nearly lost is multiple times trying to accelerate in 3rd/4th out of corners.

I wonder if the 720S has been on this track with a professional driver. I would imagine it could beat this time especially considering all the straights. We all know the 720 will destroy the GT2 RS in straight line acceleration. Put the same tires on it and it will destroy it on any track. That’s my thoughts.

There is no fixed definition but generally a production car has to be street legal and can be bought by anyone. (assuming you got the money)

It's a production car, comes with warranty. And full service from any and all dealers. You can make the argument that the GT2 RS MR that beat the Nurburgring record in 2018 was not, as it was modified by Manthey Racing (Hence the name GT2 RS MR). I'd still take the GT3RS. Is it slower, yes. Do I care? No. Does it sound like demons trying to eat my soul? Yes. Do I want my money to contribute to the death of NA super-cars? Absolutely not.
