I feel the same way about BYU's '84 opener at Pitt. That game made me a Cougars fan for life, and just in time to enjoy seeing them win the national championship.
I vividly remember watching this! First, it was awesome having college football start a full week before school started (heading into 8th grade)! Second, it was an entertaining game to set the stage for the season! As a PA resident, I also remember Penn State beating up on USC the next day! Crazy how some weekends just stand out....
@tuowl0564 I uploaded what I recorded of that '96 PSU Kickoff Classic as well. It was the Curtis Enis show. There is something about those early, stand-alone August college football games that ushered in a new season that still strongly stands out in the memory banks, even after all these years.
I would nominate this game is one of the games that change college football. BYU really opened up the passing game and really showed the nation a preview of the modern offense. Probably inspired the late Mike Leach. There's also a coaching book that showed a lot of images from this game
I bought that book back when it came out. It pretty much broke down the west coast offensive playbook. I love football but the X's and O's didn't interest me as much as the photos from this memorable game that were used throughout that book did.
I remember watching this game my sophomore year in high school. It was a great game to start the '96 season. BYU had a great season that year.
That was cool to see the KSL pregame news report. I was in 6th grade and this game made me a diehard fan from hence forth and forever.

LaVell Edwards R.I.P
It was a payback day for BYUs loss back in 1990 in the Holiday Bowl 65--14!
5:40 #90's last name sounds like a cheerleading chant, LOLZ! 😂😂😂😅😅😅😅
34:41 Brent’s statement about A&M’s QB instantly ages poorly lol
