I bought the utx 85 2 days ago and its coming Tuesday and im already planing on getting the full size ultratech. Im never gonna financially recover from this...
I know this is an old thread but OMG do i know what you mean man. Since i bought my first Microtech which was an Ultratech, I bought a Halo V and a UTX-70 since then, fuck dude lol. I am now buying a dirt bike tomorrow lmao, i'm so bad with my money. I know this is gonna sound stupid but i feel as if i never know when my ticket is going to be punched, and i am trying to have as much fun as I can RIGHT NOW! My brother had a heart attack at 35 which really scared the hell out of me because he collapsed pretty much in my arms but survived....as Sam Smith says, all we really have is right now in this exact moment in time....I'm probably trying to justify my terrible financial skills but I can't help but think about how true Sam Smith's words and ideas are.
My first Microtech, I went straight into the deep end and jumped on a Combat Troodon because John Wick. I wanted to get a double edge blade that looks exactly like the one he used in the second movie and no regrets. I carry it everywhere and I love to just show it off to flex
Bought a UTX-70 last week & ordered a UTX-85 today. Didn't last long until I had to get my 2nd one, lol. Have owned clones until now, but one wanted a real Microtech since I first held a Makora Fire Ant in I believe 2005. Had never heard of them before & I fell in love that day. I went with blue on my first one & then red, both tanto blades. But the more I look at your black ones, the more I want that color too, haha. I think the Dirac is absolutely stunning, & it will be my next Microtech when I can both find & afford one. Anyway, good job man! 😃
Been into to microtech knives for a few years starting with a the socom which is one of my every day carry knives. But got in to otf knives not that long ago starting with ultra tech. But just got the Dirac and i have to say absolutely incredible action and contouring in hand and i have xl size hands amazing comfort. Guess i will be hitting the add to cart button for the Dirac Delta wife is going to love that.
Nice upload! These are the three Microtech knives that I would consider buying and carrying because of there appropriate small size. You know back in 2005 an Ultratech was $450. And the utx 70 was $250. Prices have come down considerably on the full size utx.
plejaren giants Thank you! Yeah, these three are in the sweet spot size-wise for me too. I wasn’t aware of the price difference compared to back then! I’d imagine the competition has come a long way; maybe that has something to do with it? Change in market/production costs/ect.?
I own an ultratech,a utx85, utx70, a socom elite auto, and my newest acquisition....a combat troodon (green handle, blacked out with a tanto edge) I love microtech! If I could, I would own several of each model.
The Dirac is a small knife, only good for opening mail and expensive for the size it is. Pay the extra 70$ and get yourself the Delta version, perfect for EDC.
1st ultratech d/e satin 2nd combat troodon d/e black half serrated 3rd combat troodon d/e satin 4th dirac delta d/e 1 side full serrated stonewash 5th tac-p apocalyptic 6th(which I just ordered from bladeHQ 2day) THE TROODON D/E SATIN! ❤ALL MY MICROTECH'S THO!! Great video and cheers from Tampa fl!!
Great vid! I currently own a Guardian Tactical Recon 035 and want to make a comparison between Guardian Tactical and Microtech ... and of course it is always good to own the OG 😁
Glad you liked it! I’ve gotten quiteeee a few more knives since I made this video. All sorts of OTFs and folders; i do have a guardian tactical Recon 040, as well as a Scarab II which would be good to compare to each other. I gotta record again 😵
lol after I bought my first microtech ultra tech 1 month later I also ended up buying a new otf but a guardian tactical it’s super smooth but I really love microtech quality. saving up for a Dirac
Nice vid and appreciate your comments on the Troodon vs the UTX-85. I recently purchased a Troodon but after ordering realized the UTX-85 was similar in size and much less. However, I really like the Troodon and have ordered an Ultratech.
Great comparison video! I have the UTX-85. I like it, but prefer the Troodon design from an ergonomic standpoint. Not sure if it makes sense to purchase the regular Troodon since I have the UTX-85. They are similar in sizes. I wouldn’t mind a larger knife though, like the Combat Troodon. It’s a beast and much more expensive. Thoughts?
Adamas it’s true that the Utx-85 and the standard Troodon are pretty much interchangeable. Thus it may not make sense to buy one unless you REALLY think you want it. I’ve handled a couple Combat Troodons and think they’re fantastic. But the price point is the main sticking point. Lol. If you know you want a bigger OTF down the like then I’d say either put a little money aside and stick with the Utx-85 until you’re ready to put the money down for a Combat Troodon, or simply go for a full-size Ultratech. 👌 My buddy has one and it’s surprising how much the slightly larger size (compared to the Utx-85) makes it a lot better feeling in hand.
Being a newbie, and knowing what I know now, I probably would have gotten the regular Troodon over the UTX-85. That being said, I definitely want a larger OTF knife, so it may make sense to go for the Combat Troodon. Just thinking out loud: you are talking more than $100 increase for each single edge model starting with the UTX-85 $238, Troodon $375, Combat Troodon $485. The price point is fine for me. The Combat Troodon is really cool. It would be more of a play, show off piece and not necessarily EDC for me. Is the Combat Troodon easier or harder to actuate and retract compared to other Microtech OTF models?
Adamas The Combat Troodon is one of the hardest Microtech OTFs to fire. But that being said, if you have no issue firing your UTX-85 then you’re probably fine. I had no trouble with it when I tried it out at a shop locally. (But my brother and friend did) So it seems that I have better grip strength than some. An interesting thing to note is that the bigger the knife is, the more you have to grip, which actually helps in a way.
I have no problems firing my UTX-85, but it doesn’t seem as easy to retract. Not impossible, just not as smooth as I first thought. That’s just me being a newbie with my first OTF I guess I have average grip strength.
It’s up in the air for the combat troodon, utx 85 and the troodon. I think I’m going to start with the troodon. If I get caught carrying it it’s not to big. (Never gave reason to get pulled over by law enforcement) I want one in Merlot with a straight edge. Less tactical looking.
Matthew Cordeiro when you’re looking at size, the combat troodon, and the regular troodon, are in a completely different ballgame from each other. While I want a combat one day, it is quite big. A local authorized retailer near me has had several. S*XY, but big. For me, a comparison between an 85 and a troodon is a no brainer (if you’re willing to put down the cash) Troodon all day, every day, Brother 👌) BUT, don’t let me dissuade you from the 85, you can’t go wrong with an 85 at all; it’s a fantastic knife and on the affordable side.
mcj5644 Been a while since this one! I haven’t bought any more Microtechs, but my buddy has bought SEVERAL, so I’m thinking about grabbing some of his to make a video with! Other than that, I’ve got some watch videos coming!
Yeah I was trying to stop myself from saying “like” or “um” to be more concise but that was the outcome unfortunately. Thanks for watching some of it at least!
That’s great! I’ve wanted a damascus Microtech for a while now but they’re expensive (not quite Marfione Custom prices, but just enough to dissuade me)... so maybe one day when I decide I really wanna pull the trigger I’ll go for something like that. Have a great day 🤘
Collin Bieber Most people can’t justify the price, but they retain value pretty well. Also I’ve come to terms with my knife addiction. One day I’ll showcase my collection on RUclips.
What is a difference between the troodon and ultratech? I know the blades are slightly different and the handle is angled in the front of the troodon. Which one do you like more?
sturmgewehr70 Glad my video informed you on that! That’s the main reason I made it; to show people a comprehensive comparison between the three knives Microtech makes in this blade size category 👌 I will say the Dirac it still a true joy. So lightweight and snappy. The Dirac Delta is its bigger brother which is about the same size (blade-wise) as the Combat Troodon/Cypher.
Lol, probably next or no one bought a microtech because they wanted to use it. They bought it because it's a cool ass knife. I'm guilty of this crime lol.
themittymak I caught the Microtech Bug!!! Very dangerous for the wallet; symptoms include daydreaming about your next knife and searching all over the internet to see what’s available.
I bought the utx 85 2 days ago and its coming Tuesday and im already planing on getting the full size ultratech. Im never gonna financially recover from this...
Christian Haykus I, surprisingly, haven’t bought any more Microtechs yet, but I know it’s only a matter of time.....
i just bought a microtech ultra tech and the quality impressed me so much i think i gotta buy a Dirac now and a 85 my wallets gonna be hurting lol

I just bought an 85 and love how much handy it feels in the hand vs the Ultratech
I’m here in ‘23. The base price of a Utx 85 is $262. Still a great one. I’m here for the Dirac. Can’t decide if I want a Dirac or an Ultratech next
I would say Ultratech or Makora next, personally. The Dirac is a great little blade, and classy, but it’s quite small.
This video is nicely detailed and on point please do more!
Thank you, I definitely want to do some more!

Playback speed at LEAST 1.5x. Good vid.
I don’t see the money is as far as the difference from a UTX85 to the Troodon and the Dirac. For the money, just get the UTX 85.
Great comparison video!

@@Adamas11 i think retraction is a milling issue on the slide inside the knife.. not spring tension like everyone presumes.
How often do you lube your micotechs? And which would you choose between dirac and troodon?

Collin Bieber Sounds good, man! Lookin’ forward to your new videos. In addition to cool blades, I dig watches too! ⌚️🔪✌️😁
I feel the coating is a soft black coating on the Dirac compared to the utx85
In theory they’re exactly the same but perhaps there is a little natural variation between runs
Microtech is going AMERICAN! just messing around...they have been an amazing American company since their inception.
How long are the blades? Are they over 2 inches
Yeah they’re all pretty much 3” if I recall correctly
@@CollinB_EDC Cant buy that and have it in my possession in this state
