    Lex has done it again, Brad - “a painter of music”. You bop and whoop, Lex, as Brad sits still and brooding, and then you distill into a few well-chosen words what underlies the notes and words of a song. As one, we silently agree, as if the light bulb had shone in our minds too. Be well and happy, both, and keep sharing the joy of good music. ❤️🇬🇧🇺🇸

    • @coled2048
      @coled2048 2 года назад +2

      Agreed, Lex nailed another abstract observation with "painter of music", no pun intended but she did use that genre word as well. I can see that Brad gets it but is lost to offer terms that he may feel don't adequately describe what he is hearing. Great reaction all told!

    Bowie loved to take on different identities during his career. He was Ziggy Stardust, and Aladdin Sane, and Halloween Jack, and he ended up as the Blind Prophet. "Golden Years" and "Fame" are from when he was the Thin White Duke, almost like a stylish, dilettante, lounge singer, who flirted with soul and funk but had a darker edge. "Golden Years" is from the album "Station to Station", where the opening lyrics from the first and title track are, "The return of the Thin White Duke, throwing darts in lovers' eyes."

    David Bowie was cool! Even Ice Cube used his song "Fame" in the movie "Next Friday"! 🎼💕✌️

    Bowie is characterised as the chameleon of music... always changing creating new sounds.

    THIS guy...from this to Station to Station to Memory of a Free Festival to Life on Mars to Let's Dance to I'm Afraid of Americans. I think Bowie is one of the singular artists who have so deftly adapted themselves, their music and their presence or persona to match the changing times and styles. Really impressive.

    This song was used so effectively in a TV series back in 1991 called, funnily enough, "Golden Years" written by Stephen King...

    Bowie WAS a painter. So, it's possible that that influenced his way of writing songs.

    One my Bowie favorites, but it also evokes a Talking Heads vibe in me when I listen to it.

    Brad is SOOO not wrong about the flow in the first 3 verses that he changed up totally immediately afterwards. That’s a hip hop head’s insight. Love it. Also it is a little Stevie Wonder-esque “Superstition” funkish rhythm. Also “ A painter of music” is perfect too.

    I'll never forget picking up a greatest hits CD on a black Friday. It was $1. At the time I liked a couple of songs. I didn't know that much about him or his music. I'm more of a hard rock guy but damn If I didn't like every song on it. I wore that CD out, I played it that much. It was setup with his hits chronologically. It shocked me how much I liked his music.
