I agree with Zeke about Cohh. Sometimes without him the room is more funny and everyone gets to talk. Cohh is great but he can sometimes takes the mic at times
For anyone that doesn't know, part of the reason Dragon Age: Origins has not been remastered for modern hardware is that only around 20 people left at Bioware know how that old engine works. So part of the issue would be re-training staff to teach them the engine or completely remaking the game in a new engine, huge task. 😮💨
The problem I have with Elden Ring here is not just that it doesn't fit. It's the fact there's this little voice in the back of my head that's cynically whispering that this nomination is a smooch toward Fromsoft having future announcements at the Game Awards.
can we normalize calling it Duty: Blops edit: i think the action/adventure nominees make sense if you rename the category to Best Atmosphere ... Presentation? Most Consistent Vibes? something like that
Glad the show is back. We definitely need a seperate expansion category. I think dlc/updates in general are something the game awards format struggles with. The best ongoing category always has some very odd picks. Either it's games that get nominated on name alone even when they've had a poor year (see ff14 or destiny), or you get games like diablo 4 or cyberpunk last year that get nominated for fixing their issues from launch. I know a game show is always gonna have snubs and some weird picks, but a couple of the categories definitely stand out. It's like how pc-only indies often get overlooked, even one as popular as satisfactory. As for best ongoing, Genshin impact pumps out more new content than pretty much any live service game. WoW has had its 20th anniversary and is in the best state it has been in for years with the new expansion + the different ways to play. I know these are 2 popular games to hate, but they're just examples. I'd honestly even give it to stardew over some of these nominees. The only recurring game I agree with is fortnite because it's in a league of its own. A game getting updated has become the norm, even for smaller indies. So the award shows have to find a way to account for this. As much as I love larian, this is why I think best community support should go to an older game.
Game of the year should be defined as 'best gaming experience of the year'. I think the most prestigious award should not be made arbitrarily easier to win, or encourage game developers to not explore ways to re-invegorate their existing property.
Games released in 2024 with good (4+ stars) player rating on PS5 that could be on GOTY list instead of Elden Ring DLC: Animal Well, Another Crab's Treasure, Dragon's Dogma 2, Pacific Drive, Prince of Persia, Silent Hill 2 Re, Stellar Blade, Warhammer Space Marine 2.
A dlc could be a 100 hours of game play. I'd say most DLC are alot less worth to put out than a full stand alone games. The elden ring has reused enemy's, basic, weapons, animation, and so many other things that all the other game didn't have. I do think it would be great to have a DLC segment or have it be part of the "on going games" catagory

@@James-u1yIt is the same in principle. A DLC won best role playing "GAME" against full games. All arguments against Erdtree for GOTY applies to Blood and Wine for Best RPG.
On principle I'd say a dlc shouldn't be a nominee for game of the year; that beeing said, Shadow of the Erdtree, even though it's a dlc, is my personal game of the year and I think it deserves every award it can get. But I do wish they had made a category for dlc instead of doing it this way, because now there will 100% be a controversy around it no matter what :(
The scene in DAV with the Butcher of Treviso absolutely blew me away. I think it's one of if not my favorite scene in the whole game. Every aspect of it connected just right to blow it all away and the VA killed it.
Shadow of the Erdtree requires you to own a complete game in addition to it. GOTY has always been a singular standalone game from what I've seen. Ergo, Shadow of the Erdtree does not belong in that category no matter it's length or quality. By all means have a DLC category or Major Update category, but I really don't think we should be including expansions/DLC in GOTY polls. Otherwise why haven't we been including the amazing DLCs that have come out in the past like Witcher 3's Blood and Wine, Cyberpunk Phantom Liberty, Control's The Foundation, or FFXIV expansions?
It's funny seeing people be such fans of Stalker 2, that they run it on like 15-year-old rigs. Saw someone with an i7-3770 + GTX960 combo. They had to set the internal rendering so low, it had to be put into the .ini file instead. And still, they can't stop gushing about it. As someone who raided in Wow at 7 FPS, I kinda get it.

If Naughty Dog released a DLC/expansion for Last of Us Part II and it was up for GotY I feel like this conversation would be entirely different. It isn't From's fault they get away with things others don't (like reusing animations, enemies, etc when other games get crucified for doing the same thing by terminally online people) and it isn't their fault that they're nominated when Phantom Liberty was mysteriously absent in the GotY category when it released. But I do think if other studios that weren't the industry's darling had the exact same release cadence people online would be incredibly toxic about it. Which to me, says it all. It doesn't really matter unless you're a developer or publisher but Erdtree's base game already won GotY. I just don't see why they can't recognize other developers. They could have easily put UFO 50 into GotY, it's an amazing game and incredibly unique for what it is. They could have put Satisfactory there, an incredibly well made game as well. Helldivers 2, albeit not reviewed all that well, was a pretty influential game, especially in the early part of the year. What is with Cohh and JP constantly crying about Sony having you make an account to play their games on Pc? Nobody gave a shit before Sony did it, I guarantee 90% of the games you play on Pc have you link your account. Larian do it, CDPR do it, Ubisoft do it, Epic do it, and many others. Give it a rest.
The main reason for the outrage is the fact that the PlayStation Network is not available in 120+ countries. This means that people in, for example, Latvia, Lithuania, Estonia and Philippines will have to use VPNs (thus breaking PSN's Terms of Service) in order to gain access to Elden Ring (and Helldivers 2).
@Lowkeh Yea but why are you acting like that's Sony's fault? Do you honestly think that Sony is making it not available in those countries out of spite? There's clearly a reason why it's not, they like money and want more people using their service as much as possible.
@varianngaming9403 What? Acting like- huh? Are you talking to me? I replied in completely neutral manner (or so I thought) and never even mentioned anything about whose fault it is, because that's a whole 'nother topic that is probably more complicated/nuanced than I'd care to go into. I gotta say, your response seem unreasonably defensive, as if I somehow managed to insult you? Sorry, then, I guess? But, beware of brand-loyalty; it'll rarely do ya any good.
@@Lowkeh lmao what? I replied to your reasoning with a fact. Sony aren't putting their service in those countries out of spite. I don't have brand loyalty in the slightest, i call Sony out for their bullshit all the time, having to take two seconds out your day to make an account that every other publisher is doing isn't one of those times.

They could have easily put UFO 50 into GotY, it's an amazing game and incredibly unique for what it is. They could have put Satisfactory there, an incredibly well made game as well. Helldivers 2, albeit not reviewed all that well, was a pretty influential game, especially in the early part of the year. I really do not understand the thought process even if I do agree, to us randos it doesn't really matter at the end of the day.
downloaded balatro and uninstalled that crap after 5 minutes
Guess life has dealt you a bad bad hand?
same
Lmao badass dude
sounds miserable
Fourth!

"Sony aren't putting their service in those countries out of spite"
And I never said nor implied that they did. 🤔
