Had the police tell me and my friend to stop filming at Secaucus which we had no other choice because it was the police and we wasted 20 bucks for parking and only lasted there for 5 minutes. For awhile after 911 there was a ban on any photography on mta property, where I worked, triboro bridge if someone was caught by an officer that they would confiscate the film, take down the personal information, get the film developed and return prints if there was no pictures of the bridge. Rule applies to using a tripod or stationary device. I think you still need a permit to film on mta property, however, it’s not really enforced lately.
This would’ve been so much better if you had the exact statute in mind and told him that since you’re not using a tripod or flash or a reflector that it’s perfectly legal. 😂
Or maybe if an MTA employee doesn’t want you filing their actions, you could move somewhere else to find content. Just remember, it’s the bad apples that ruin it for everyone. Overzealous rail fans can be a huge problem, even with your “right” to film.

Therefore, it is YOUR CONSTITUTIONAL RIGHT to film on the New York City Subway and nobody can tell you otherwise! Thankfully the MTA says it's allowed so you don't have to worry about consistently auditing the system. That was a jerk move of him to shove his flashlight into your camera.
