    For me this is the best beginning of any movie in the history. It just sets up the whole atmosphere so right with visuals and music. And putting together Clint Mansell, Marco Beltrami and Marilyn Manson to score the film. I mean c'mon... Zimmer is a genius when it comes to Sci-Fi, but for horror movies it doesn't get better than this.

    This movie definitely had something over the sequels. That being atmosphere, creepy settings, great music, memorable characters with distinct personalities, great practical effects, great setting, awesome villain (the red queen) and an overall satisfying experience. Even this intro is better than the others. Setting up the power of the umbrella corporation and the fear it's meant to instill, with cool effects and a cool logo appearance and a great pull in from a dark void into the world of Resident Evil. Sorry, this movie was so much better than the rest (:

    This one scene alone along with the ending scene is better than ALL of the crappy Resident Evil movies produced by Paul W.S Anderson. Im glad the series is getting rebooted especially by the right people. The only credit I will give the first movie is the score. The OST was the only good thing about this movie.

      The only good thing about Resident Evil 2 was The End of the Heartache by Killswitch Engage during the credits.

    Fun fact for anyone who wants to know, the voiceover describing The Umbrella Corporation here is actually done by Jason Isaacs, who also cameos in the end as the scientist who orders the reopening of The Hive, with a hint that he was supposed to be Dr. William Birkin. Made me extremely excited at the prospect of such a talented veteran actor taking the reins as one of the game's major characters turned monsters, but sadly completely tossed the opportunity away by the time Apocalypse rolled out. Makes me hope that if the talks of rebooting the series and making them closer to the games are true, they'll remember him and offer him the role.

      A little fun fact the reason why these movies didn't follow the games was because capcom supposedly requested they have an original storyline out of fear of people not playing the games. However this movie as a stand-alone film, is technically considered a prequel to the games, but the demand for sequels ended up changing its continuty to them

    • @EnclaveRemnantFanboy-118

      @@t_man7259was this ever confirmed? Cause it seems believable that Capcom would want it to be it's own continuity rather than set in the game universe.
      Especially since the games have there own mass of problems as well, which is probably why the Remake timeline is a thing now.

      @randomenclavefanboy3415 im not sure exactly. I just saw some reviews on youtube that mentioned the movie was originally gonna be tied more to the games when Geroge A Romero was on gonna direct it.but supposedly, this movie was gonna be stand-alone movie called resident evil ground zero. Released as a lose prequel to the game's itself, even with the changed storyline. However, Paul Anderson dropped the sub title because of 9_11

    Man I know it wasn't perfect but holy fuck was this first movie fucking amazing in it's own rights. The attention to framing and structure and feeling. If you're into cinematography then you'll understand the overwhelming importance to "Andromeda Strain" that it pays homage to in so many designs and framings. This first film was really dope and actually mildly scary because it wasnt trying to be a blockbuster action film. Its shared pace with the older games where it was exciting yet really un-fucking-settling. You nor anyone was ever in control of the situation. No one was a badass bc they were untouchable. You didn't know what was coming and barely made it out where you saw every one else suffer horrible fucking deaths and it gave you a minor moment of feeling like a badass for just scraping by alive. I truly wish the rest of the films followed suit in this production style as well as the games. Give me back scary, basic, just try to survive zombies Resident Evil - remakes are okay but don't really count. I wanna feel scared again. I was raised on horror and after getting the shit scared out of me from the first game I didnt think this movie would spook me. This first scene really through that under the bus lol

    • @HamguyBacon

    Simple but effective staging, because with a simple gesture, he will condemn an entire planet.
    Mixed in with the way it's all done, the intro voiceover, the inconic music, the zoom in, like a prep for something.
    This single intro smashes everything that will be done next with this franchise, forever.

I mean psychological torture is a good premise though, lots you can do with it, lots of ways to take it... But I like zombies a lot better... :P that's a fun game of survival every time... and in the R.E. series we watch humanity all but die out, coming real close to species annihilation. Not to mention epic directed mutations and telekinesis and clones and action the music and Mila Jovovich who I honestly probably can't get enough of. R.E. wins out for me easily.

    1. People say he threw the virus to cause a distraction, why not just cause a fire
    2. The red queen never saw his face when he came into the lab, when he was leaving and on his way out? Kinda stupid for a state of the art supercomputer
    3. No one is watching the red queen's chamber? You'd expect a security guard or computer person there but when alice and them arrive, empty(well maybe they went on lunch)
    4. Air vents in the lab, a room contains the most deadly virus has air vents. Why not just make it a sealed room with air vent doesn't connect to the main ones
    5. Spence should know the defenses of the red queen, so why didn't he bring a gas mask to stop the gas from knocking him out

    • @commanderbenson4121
      @commanderbenson4121 8 лет назад +27

      +andy wong 1. Its revealed why he did that in the end.
      2. He didn't act suspicious so a state of the art A.I. won't raise the alarm over some dude leaving a lab.
      3. The Red Queen's server chamber is in a different part of the HIVE and is already protected by a cutting laser corridor and a pair of sliding reinforced doors. So the need for guards is totally unnecessary.
      4. Plot reasons. I wonder if you asked the same question when Marcus was killed by the two man USS attack team, as he was near the very container containing his leeches during Resident evil 0.
      5. Cause it would immediately label him as the one that started it. And the Red Queen will find some other way to kill him.

      2. couldnt the a.i have gone through the surveillance footage and spot his face. then warn Alice and the gang.
      3. guess that makes sense. gotta save money from hiring a guard
      4. should of hired a better architect
      5. he made it to the train so i was more than half way there. guess the employee handbook didn't state there was knockout/memory loss gas in the train

    • @commanderbenson4121
      @commanderbenson4121 8 лет назад +6

      andy wong 1. So he can sell it on the black market for millions and to cover his tracks.
      2. It probably did, but due to the virus now going through the air system it decided to gas the entire faculty as the best solution for both problems, with the belief that he would perish. Which would in a way allow him to get away since Umbrella would think he died.
      3. Yeah especially with how expensive a laser corridor is.
      4. True
      5. He was a Umbrella Employee, a guard to be more precise which means he knew every short cut through the place. As for the train it probably was given that without any employee knowledge so in case there was some form of security breach no one would be able to remember anything compromising. That and the fact that the train lead to the hidden back door entrance which was under a mansion "belonging" (Corporate Issued) to him and his partner who was already planning to expose Umbrella with someone who was in the facility when everything went to shit.
