Thanks for talking about matching your energy levels. I have chronic health conditions and that part of your video really clicked for me. Gorgeous and inspiring work!
Your videos have started me on a new habit: when I have extra paint left over, I apply it to sketchbook pages or scratch paper in advance. It's helped me attain some interesting results thus far, so thanks and Happy New Year.
I love your idea of no rules for sketchbooks. We can sketch something real or imaginary. It can be en plein air or at home. Nothing needs to be perfect. Nobody needs to see it. Using a smaller sketchbook is a great idea as we can always take it with us. It is also very helpful when we are recovering or not feeling well.
I feel too often people impose rules and ‘shoulds’ on what a sketchbook must be which limits possibilities. I keep these to support my growth not to feed IG
Working in my sketchbooks every day has been my mantra. I'm also trying to be less fussy and more free with what I'm sketching or painting. Contrast. Thank you so much for helping me on this journey. You're wonderful.
Thank you for the video! My biggest lesson this year is some advice I heard and have applied: treat your own art as you would treat the works of someone else. When we give critique and feedback to a friend, we tend to be kinder and focus on strong points for others but not for ourselves. So, I have been trying to do that with my sketchbook practice and I think it has given me a healthier relationship with my art.
Treating your own art with the same kindness and encouragement you’d give to others is such a valuable approach. I’m so glad it’s helped you build a healthier relationship with your art-what a fantastic lesson to carry forward!
your art looks so loose and free, you can see it’s had effort put into it, but at the same time it looks so effortless. your art and your sketchbook spreads are beautiful
Glad you mentioned the awkwardness and vulnerability when sketching outside around other people. That's the biggest hurdle for me when urban sketching.
I love how one of the swimmer with the highlight dots has two dots, making it look like very tight swim shorts. I love the whole picture, but that detail about it is hilarious.
I found great inspiration in watching this video, great work creatively speaking but also in video content. Very useful information, I appreciate your insight.
I absolutely fell in love with the watercolour, brush pen and colour pencil peices you showed. SO inspiring and loose and playful! Such a clever way of capturing travels
Very beautiful pieces, and so different! I’m trying to embrace variety in my own work, but sometimes this feeling that I’m betraying something I love still creeps in. The most valuable lesson I’ve learned this year is that ‘just starting’ is very often all it takes to get down to creating. If I do just start, I will always feel better afterwards. Thank for this video. Happy holidays!
Thank you so much for sharing this-it really resonates! Embracing variety can be challenging, but it’s such a rewarding journey. I love your insight about ‘just starting’-it’s such a powerful reminder.
Love this video, so inspirational. I’m currently working on my portfolio and it’s easy to get so focused on making “perfect” “portfolio worthy” works and forget to get enjoy making art and being expressive. Your art is so beautiful.
Thank you so much for sharing about your up & downs, it helps somehow to know even the best artist have this, and I not the only one who gets maybe at some point stucked or have issues about herself 😂❤
Thank you for sharing your thoughts and sketchbooks, Omar. You help me keep my art practice going. Your talent and your inspiring words make the world a better place.
I so enjoyed this video of your sketchbooks. I love how you’ve reflected on the themes and things that you’ve been drawn to over the past year, I must do that with my own as I’m sure it’s a great way to see progress and find highlights. Thank you
Reflecting on themes and progress in your sketchbooks is such a rewarding practice-I’m sure you’ll discover some amazing highlights in your own work. Happy sketching
Thank you for all the inspiration this year. I truly learned a lot from you and tried new things. Your fruits and veggies especially helped me. They were attainable and fun. Your enthusiasm is catching. 😃
I love your brave and beautiful sketches - or I would rather call them pieces of art. They are all wonderful! I wish I could be as brave too - even though not nearly as skillfull - but I have little dəvils on my shoulder dismissing everything I draw. I hope I'll live long enough to get rid of them but I think they'll win eventually.. Your sketchbooks give me courage - I have several sketchbooks too, but they are empty or have only one or too pages used. I have been thinking of having one sketchbook only for sunsets, I see wonderful sunsets from my windows through the year so I don't have to go far to draw them. Every evening I watch the changing sky and try to memorize the colors Maybe I'll try to draw them, and my dəvils get bored after 10 or 15 wrongly drawn sunsets and lose interest, who knows. I'm eager to see more of your art. Subscribed.
I completely understand those little 'devils' of self-doubt, but I truly hope you give yourself permission to create without judgment. A sketchbook dedicated to sunsets sounds like a beautiful idea, especially with such inspiring views right outside your window. Even imperfect attempts are steps forward, and who knows-you might just outlast those devils after all! Wishing you lots of courage and joy as you start filling those pages.
@OhnMarWinArt My devíls were real people who tried to destroy, not protect me when they were still alive. But thank you for your advice, maybe I can turn the tables, lift myself from the pit they wanted to stomp me in and finally send them where they belong.

I’m sorry to hear that. You can’t create from an empty cup do look after yourself & give yourself grace

Stunning, and so inspirational- thankyou! And I realise on soaking up your mastery I’ve been prepping my backgrounds too dark for transparent media.
That's so great to hear - I often keep scraps of test pages for a very long time just in case

Thank you for sharing. I really would like to attend the portrait drawing but I can't find the link you speak of.
Beautiful. What are the luminance markers you mention?
Wow ❤
This year I learned [the hard way]: You can't learn to drive in a parked car!
