As an ex smoker, this was fun to watch! A bush pipe with herbs I guess is okay, glad to see you didn't inhale! Glad to see more young ladies are taking up bushcraft, I'm sure you've been an inspiration, along with Lily, Vanessa, and Susanne!

Well very interesting project. I'm a pipe smoker And I reallly like to make my own pipes And during that process I gather informations to select better woods and suprisingly or not some wood are not good. Not only because They are to soft or to hard to carve but because they can bring toxicity. So beware that not all woods can be use for making SmokingPipe as well as not all herbs And plants are edibles or can be smoked. Really enjoy this video, to be being in the Woods enjoying Mother nature And smoking my pipe with good tobacco is part of the pleasure And of the ritual.

I have a pretty good pipe collection. Little over 600 pipes. I've collected about every type I can find. Porcelain, wood, brass, stone, clay, glass, corncob, deer antler, bone, in almost every style I can find. I like buying estate pipes and restoring them. The oldest pipes I can verify are just before the turn of the century. Quite a few early 1900. Those are probably my favorite. I've made quite a few pipes myself. It's always fun messing around. I made a corn cob pipe one time that was about the nastiest smoking thing I ever heard of. Which is why I tried to only do wood now. Repairing pipes other people ruined has really taught me a lot. You'd be surprised how many experienced pipe smokers don't know how to take care of their pipes. I've purchased meerschaum pipes where they allowed it to cake up... which is fine with a briar pipe but never with a meerschaum... my only concern with the type of pipe he made is cutting vertically through the bowl. Too big of a chance of a leak and it won't draw right. A horizontal split below the bowl and reaming into the bottom of the bowl would be much better.

I have over 600 tobacco pipes. Wonderful hobby. You're not supposed to inhale the tobacco. Though there are people who do. I doubt they live long. Smoking a pipe is the safest form of taking tobacco. I've smoked for over 30 years. I'm not addicted. I go months without smoking so I won't smoke around my kids. But I sure enjoy it on my time. I've made a few pipes myself. A couple of tips. Don't scrape out the charred part of the wood. That is the part protecting your wood. You can carve it out, and coat the bowl with pipe paste. Which is a fine ash, any will do. Cigarette ash is the finest. Mixed with honey, or sugary agent. Until it feels like a paste. This protects the bowl and helps start caking. You can glue the pipe back together. Pine resin works. Seals good. And paste protects it in bowl from burning. Last it's alot more fun when you shave down the mouth piece to fit comfortably in your mouth. Something about smoking just relaxes and helps you think. I like Albert Einstein's favorite tobacco. Revelation... but I try all different types. I also like cult blood moon. And Cherry Bomb. English blends are pretty good as well... very earthy. John bull, etc... the smoke helps drive off bugs too. The natives Americans called those herbs nik-nik.

@@Waldhandwerk I know there's more than one way to skin a cat. One thing I found about making a pipe easier and better functioning, is instead of cutting through the bowl vertically. Try cutting horizontally just past where the bowl ends. about a quarter of an inch from the very bottom. Then on the top piece of wood you can use your knife reamer to make a small hole into the bowl. And on that same piece carve out your stem tunnel. You can round off your bowl but leave a piece sticking out in front. That way you can tie across the bowl and the bottom piece. I found cutting through the bowl itself doesn't give you a very good seal. too much air gets around from the split. you can't really use an adhesive on the bowl. As heat affects most resins. (500*). The stem however doesn't get nearly as hot. Plus it can be wrapped or tied with cordage. You need a good seal or you'll really have to work at keeping it lit. I learned by looking at some native peace pipes, trial and error. 😁👍

    Morning Sepp (and Chris) ..
Back in the 60's / 70's .. me telling the local Constabulary "It's only Herbs and for Medicinal Purposes" would have got the response ..
"Ja, ja .. gaan sê dit vir die Landdrost. Klim in die Van!" (Yes, yes .. go tell that to the Magistrate. Get into the (back of .. Police) Van) 😁.
Nice little Project though .. thanks for sharing. And yes, we need more women to get involved in Bushcraft .. absolutely!
    Me too .. have never smoked .. well once .. early-teens .. Draw .. inhale ...... COUGH 😳 SPIT .. PTOO-IE .. AARGH 🤢 .. "That's not fun!." So I did Surfing instead .. 😁.
Some useless information .. in Durban South Africa, my home town, the Herb (the select highly-sorted variety) that got one an appointment with the local Magistrate was known as 'Durban Poison'. Up Country, later in the Mining Industry .. 'Pappagaai Twak' (Parrot Tobacco).
    Take care .. Tommy.

@@sosteve9113 Yes. Afrikaans originates from Dutch. It comes from a dialect thereof, spoken by the indigenous Cape-Based Southern African Servants tasked to work, inter alia, in the kitchens for the early Dutch Settlers in the Cape .. therefore known then (and still by some in the Netherlands .. somewhat derogatively) as 'Kitchen Dutch'.
