First of all, thank you VERY much for your wonderful reaction! 😀
Regarding whether it would have been better for Dan (or any other musician) to rely on publishers and try to be international "stars," or for him (or anyone else who has chosen his route) to "go it on his own" is a touchy question. As of this moment (09/13/2024, at 11:26 PM CDT), Dan has 1,030,000 subscribers. Not everyone who watches his channel has subscribed. His actual viewership is even larger. I highly doubt that most theater or movie actors/singers have that many people who even know who they are, much less who view their videos every day, every day, every day.😀
Also, there would be FAR fewer people knowing about Dan and his voice, even now (nearly 14-1/2 years from his very first RUclips post -- April 2, 2010), if he had simply gone into the usual professional "train ride" (so to speak). He turned down the first contract that was offered to him (and the band) as soon as he discovered how much they would have been robbed, and who would be getting most of the credit (the producer). So he turned into being his OWN producer, and doing what my mother (as a very young musician, when she was only five) told her parents. We kids learned to abide by her first statement of rebellion: "DO IT MY OWN!" She never had wanted people messing with what SHE already knew to be good!
She was a VERY successful musician all of her life, from that early age of five, who played many instruments (and sang), but her main instrument was her violin. In the last years before she passed away, she had decided, however, that she was no longer a violinist, because she had discovered Shoji Tobuchi, and had persevered in meeting him online (by texting, way back in the early days, when there were only a few venues available. She and he had many things in common, and they exchanged a lot of ideas about other songs. She got to meet him, live, once, and was honored by him bringing her on-stage, plus she even got to play HIS violin (which neither of them called violins any longer). She had changed to calling herself a bluegrass fiddler, and that was, indeed, her real heart. She treasured that one visit to his venue in Branson, Missouri, more than she treasured just about anything else in her lifetime. Now, they've BOTH passed away, and I have a feeling that where they are, they are still making music together, and discussing the best ways TO make music. 😀
PLUS, when Dan publishes his music, the monetary returns are all HIS (or his band's). They only have to reckon with the amount of money it takes for them to produce the music themselves, initially. Those costs, after the initial set-ups, are FAR less expensive than paying another producer (especially one like VEVO, which ends up not only taking the money to produce for their artists, but then will not allow reactions). Dan, on the other hand, has already established his OWN copyrights to all of the covers AND his originals that he has created, and then he has turned around and given permission to ANYONE to use his videos, as long as they give him the credit that is his due (and I don't think that he actually monitors those usages very much). Viking Reacts has made several wonderful mash-ups of Dan's covers, with the originally-presented songs by other artists (including Amy Lee, Brenda Carlisle, and Nightwish). Dan has actually given his verbal permission, and he LIKES that, because it proves to the world, how well he HAS covered the songs, and actually done (in most cases) a better job of it (as far as most of us, his fans, are concerned, at least). On the other hand, the other musicians (like Nightwish) have no objections to having a mash-up of themselves and Dan. That just gives THEM a boost, as well!
Here's one of Dan's wonderful videos that you might really enjoy. The actual WRITER of the song (who used to be the lead singer for Rhapsody of Fire, then has had his OWN band, simply named "Rhapsody," while he was already committed to being the lead singer for the Brazilian Band "Angra," and is now (in the fall of 2024) ONLY in that position -- lead singer for the Brazilian Band, "Angra," even though he is Italian): Fabio Lione.
Dan originally covered the song, and posted it, on Oct 26, 2016, just 13 days after he turned 27 years old. Fabio, then, was on tour in Brazil, in 2022, and HE asked Dan if he could go to his studio and record the song WITH him. Dan accepted, and though they had only a very short time together, the whole FEARLESS band (Davi [Dah-VEE] Vasc, Gabriel Belozi, and Giovanni Rezende) also showed up, and played the wonderful instrumental music for the song, while Fabio and Dan sang the song together (VERY obviously enjoying their time together, and the way the song turned out), Dan was able to post it on Sep 16, 2022, which was only three weeks before he turned 33! BOTH videos are on Dan's channel, and would be well worth a comparison reaction. 😀
You can hear Dan, himself, talk about these kinds of things, on a video that is called "Metal & Independence w/ ‪@DanVasc‬ | For Canon Sake Ep: 458" which was posted on YT on February 26, 2024. There are other videos out there, where he's had similar conversations (including a couple on his own channel, just by himself). There are really good reasons for Dan going in the direction in which he has traveled. 😀

This is my favorite of Dan's Phantom of the Opera covers & gives me goosebumps every time. He also does the title song (Phantom of the Opera) with Dragica and he performs as Raul's character in a duet with Alina Leznik singing "All I Ask of You". Both are worth chkg out. As for what Dan doesn't sing, I don't expect any Country, Reggae, or Rap covers. Lol. Dan did do a version of "Take You Back" from Rocky, though. It's the song sung by the street performers around the alley fire. It's not but about 2 mins long, but he did a great job. I don't know of anyone else who's ever thought to do a cover of that brief song with like 4 part harmony. Of course, Dan's a Rocky fan and full of surprises. Loved your reaction to Music of the Night. 😊

I think you're meaning Dan's second take on that song, right? His first one was recorded quite early on. It is named "Daniel Vasconcelos - "Fairy Tale" (SHAMAN Cover)" and it was posted on his channel on Feb 12, 2012 (when he was about 22-1/2 years old).
The second version that he did of the same song is entitled simply "SHAMAN - "Fairy Tale" Cover," and it was posted on Aug 15, 2018 (when he was just two months away from his 29th birthday). Dan (who will be 35 on October 13, 2024) has kept the earlier one up, so that people may compare the two. 😀

@@elvirazandee8530 AGREED! In this family (12 people: two grandparents/my husband and I; two parents/our youngest daughter and her husband; and their eight children/ages 20 down through 4-1/2), we get to experience this type of thing every day, every day, every day, because everyone here is musical, and we get to watch the kids do the same as Dan. Plus, since I first saw Dan's "Amazing Grace," on April 9, 2023, I've been watching his techniques and working very hard on getting back my FULL range, after fighting rheumatoid arthritis for many years, which robbed me of all but my BASS voice. My grandkids here (we actually have 22 of them scattered around the U.S. and five great-grandkids as well) think it's extremely funny that their grandmother CAN actually sing bass! I'm back, now, after singing with Dan for nearly 1-1/2 years, to at least a 2nd soprano with my range, and I can actually get back up into the 1st soprano range, and am extending all the time -- I used to have just under six octaves...about 5-1/2, right now.
I am EXTREMELY joyful that Dan SHOWS us how to sing, as well as just SINGING. 😀
