Hp in 44 spcl is ok but i still prefer either a 240 gr hard cast or a soft swaged slug. I prefer two holes over one, the more leakage and ventilation the better.

ME TOO -- ANY HARD CAST KEITH STYLE FROM 190 GRAIN UP FOR ME - I HAVE CONCERNS ABOUT OVER PENETRATION BUT IT IS KINDA SECONDARY TO THE REAL FOCUS OF SELF DEFENSE -- ONE HOLE IN ONE HOLE OUT IS JUST FINE WITH ME

I'm glad someone did a test with this ammo, my uncle gave me his Rossi M720 in 44 Special and it's my favorite gun to carry around, and he also gave me an almost full box of this ammo, I know GD has a good reputation and finding anything 44 special is pretty difficult. I also have some Hornady CD rounds but they're too light and underwhelming for my taste.

I suggest you invest in a large/long surgical hemostat - you'll do a lot less butchery of your gel block. Typically, it's poke, grab, pull without all that slicing & hacking.

Liked your test. FYI,I've always considered four layers of denim to be un realistic.

I have a handload with 12 hardness soft lead FP 200gr going 900fps in my Redhawk, 5". After doing the postmortem on a 170lb hog, expansion was fantastic and penetration was under the skin on the offside. I believe that round would work fine if used for defense. I also have loaded some 200gr gas checked hard cast in a mag case that go 1000fps. Those blow on through hogs. Depends on what you want to do. Would that CCI ammo mess up a bad guy? You bet, it would. Repeat the application as needed!

I had always heard the opposite of what you report at the end of the video: I’d heard that in .44 Special, the Blazer GDs you tested here are the ones to get, because they are loaded a bit *hotter* than the standard nickel cased Gold Dots, or indeed than most big brand ammo makers’ JHPs in the caliber.

I agree. GDs are GDs no matter whether the shell is aluminum or brass. I have these rounds and carry them in my Charter Arms Bulldog when packing a .44. Compared to other HPs, the GDs are pretty spicy !

I'm thinking I loaded them up to 1050_1100fps. my Taurus tracker 44mag .3in rifling, 4th inch a gas chamber for muzzle Break. my carry/ hunting load 180 gr.xtp Longshot powder 1322_1352 fps..definitely awesome. devastating on deersize game. Ai greatly enjoyed the video. Papa 😊

Thank you for the testing and video. I am also becoming increasingly interested in the. 44 special. If convenient, I am very curious about how the cowboy action loads behave in test like this. Yes they are usually relatively flat nose style so no expansion is expected.
I realize that it is a non traditional approach. Also curious about how much they smoke vs clean shooting.
    Thank you.

Good testing but, IMHO the FBI testing protocols are BS in EDC for the average person. The FBI is concerned with other factors like barrier penetration and is concerned with the 9mm. A 200gr 44cal slug hitting anyone is going to ruin their day, right on par with a 45acp especially with 11" of penetration. I'm a big guy and 11" puts that slug with a chest hit against my spine. I applaud your concerns on over penetration, a main factor for me when in public or around family. I also have a couple 3" GP100's, a 7 shot 357 and a 5 shot 44 Special like yours. Love them both and I do CCW with them but with reduced 110gr loads in the 357. The testing with the Gold Dots will have me ordering a box to try out against my current Underwood 44cal full wad cutters, I love the fact that you were getting full expansion even at those low velocity's.

Folks need to know that a big but slow bullet makes a big hole. The bigger the hole=the faster the blood loss=the quicker the threat is stopped. It takes 6-8 inches to reach the heart from a frontal position. According to Google Math a bullet traveling about 800fps is equal to going 500mph in a car. That aint exactly slow!! The 44 Special is just that! Special!!

How would you feel with a 44 spl in your chest @ 10 inchs. .. i am sure you would jump up and say it did not meet the FBI protocol… i think you would bleed a lot!!!!

I don't know why all these RUclips testers always want to shoot through 4 layers of denim...who are they getting attacked by ?....Canadians wearing 4 Canadian Tuxedo jackets ?
The FBI (commie or not) test is more apt to standard clothing.

Isn't 4 layers of denim FBI standard?

You might have a problem taking out J Leno with that round. Does anyone make a pistol with an 8 inch barrel? I have a Colt with a 7.5 inch barrel. How about 1 layer of denim and 1 layer of T shirt?
