God I miss the original material design. It was literally the PERFECT balance of flat minimal design and just enough skeuomorphism to tell what was what without a bunch of extra flair and texture.
Material 1 is so good that I flashed the 2015 versions of the Google Apps on my Android Lollipop phone Got the old papercut icons, app UI and of course the old Google logo.
I love this channel so much. It's covered many niche topics that I personally love, and it's so cool to know I'm not the only one interested in this stuff.
It's so welcoming to see another Undefined video after such a long time! You somehow always manage to make your videos extremely relaxing to watch and listen to and in turn it really gives me the chance to relive these older designs. Contrary to my strong hatred of flat design, I actually somewhat like the Material You design. It feels light, airy, fresh and clean, which is also how I recall the summers of those years in a nostalgic light.
I really miss the old ui design, especially the Android 4.0-4.4 holo theme era. It was clean and dark but inconsistant, however it still is my favorite. Luckily I still have some older devices like the Galaxy Nexus.
forgot to mention but the kitkat 4.4.x on Galaxys has a mix of the Papercut design and the nature design of the previous offerings (if you ever used a Note 4 on kitkat, you will know)
dont blame me or make fus of this, but the old Google icons from 2016 give me nostalgia, because i had them on my Note 4 back in 2017 and i really love there design. they fit verry well with Android 6.0.1 on it. sadly the Play Store was doing the Play Store stuf and updating them to the new flat icons that look ugly and dont have the thing that makes me love the old ones. thats why i disable the Play Store on my devices. i do use apks to get thowse apps (Google Drive, Google Photos, Google Meet, etc)
The great return of Undefined. Also, awesome video! I especially like the evolution of Google Chrome and the chatting apps. Their designs changed a *lot* since then.
Yes, please continue this. It might also be a good idea to set in the title which letters you cover in the video? And maybe do a video on products killed off by Google :)
I really like to watch the first versions of the app. And i like the series of videos. I would prefer if you spent more time showing the interface. Like, you're switching images too fast.
a lot of the things youre saying is the Material You design is actually happened before Material You existed. the Material You design language is a lot more rounded and has a more laid out color scheme (which changes depending on your wallpaper). this is just a nitpick though. still a really great video
Material 1.0 is from 2014-2018. Material 2.0 which is what you describe as "pre material you" is from 2018-2022. Material You is Material 3.0 which is from 2022 to the present Android 7 and 8 in my opinion arent really papercut era or the pre-material you era, I'd say they are the undecided era inbetween that are a bit flatter but arent that much rounder.
Pre-Holo era and Papercut era are the best because the apps blend verry well with the touchwiz nature design language used for Android 5.0-5.1.1 (6.0.1 tunned down a bit and looks dawl in coparasion. GraceUX aslo changed the design to be flat and have the papercut design language in the icons but a white bar instead of the tale blue colored bar of touchwiz nature (of course the apps have there own colors). after that, Google's and Samsung's UIs look more and more destinct)
Actually, you are calling the material 2 design "material you" but they are different: the material you was introduced in 2021 and some Google apps didn't update to material you (also called material 3) like contacts and classroom. Great video tho!
I absolutely miss the papercut era. It was literally perfect. Why did they change it to the vomit green, dull blue, plain gray and disgusting yellow urine color
guys wake up Undefined posted 🗣️🗣️
woke up 2 weeks late 😭
Ceo of Frutiger Aero posted 🔥
Papercut UI will never looked old in my eyes
Same... When i use my Samsung S4 sometimes it still doesn't feel old. Paper design will never feel old!
Bae wake up, it's Frutiger Aero time.
God I miss the original material design. It was literally the PERFECT balance of flat minimal design and just enough skeuomorphism to tell what was what without a bunch of extra flair and texture.
And you sée they made a lot of Care onto it from the placeholder text Moving when you start typing to the FAB (the Big buttons on the bottom left)
Same. It was so much better than Holo and based on solid principles.
2:33 That’s meant to be an asterisk, a symbol that is associated with passwords and secrecy
True, like
"Password: **********"
WE MISSED YOU
papercut and holo is peak android design
Papercut was genius
Android 8 UI hits Differently hard tho
Material 1 is so good that I flashed the 2015 versions of the Google Apps on my Android Lollipop phone
Got the old papercut icons, app UI and of course the old Google logo.
"The logo lost it's papercut design for a more minimalistic one."
Now where have I seen that before?
I came as quickly as I could.
This is awesome! Been an Android user since the start, so i love that I recognise all of these icons! Would love to see this continued!
No way I just remembered your channel earlier today and wondered when you’d make a come back! Great video as always.
I love this channel so much. It's covered many niche topics that I personally love, and it's so cool to know I'm not the only one interested in this stuff.

Welcome back, mate.
Seriously, welcome back. You make me smile.
It's been a while
I really miss the old ui design, especially the Android 4.0-4.4 holo theme era. It was clean and dark but inconsistant, however it still is my favorite.

forgot to mention but the kitkat 4.4.x on Galaxys has a mix of the Papercut design and the nature design of the previous offerings (if you ever used a Note 4 on kitkat, you will know)
7:30 This app brings me memories, cuz really, I installed Google Play to my Amazon Fire tablet, and still have this exact logo and UI

Welcome back!
So nice to see that you are back!
Yes, please continue this. It might also be a good idea to set in the title which letters you cover in the video? And maybe do a video on products killed off by Google :)
This could be a really interesting series! There are tens of other google apps, and it would be awesome to rediscover them trough videos like this one
I really like to watch the first versions of the app. And i like the series of videos.
I would prefer if you spent more time showing the interface. Like, you're switching images too fast.
Would love to see you do the rest of the apps!
mmm...... flat minimalism my beloathed
Glad to see you're back! 🎉
I'd love a part 2 to this, it was a very interesting video
This gives me somewhat nostalgia, as I have mostly used Android devices all my life.
Boys, wake up, Undefined uploaded!!!
I would really like to see all the other interesting apps, great video!
Amazing video as always. 😊
Finally a new video, please make a video on UI language shifting from IBM to Microsoft to Apple
Hello Undefined!
I'm Curious To See You Do More Of This😃
Dude PLEASE make this a series
Am I the only one that missed theese types of videos. They are just so welcomming and warm.
a lot of the things youre saying is the Material You design is actually happened before Material You existed. the Material You design language is a lot more rounded and has a more laid out color scheme (which changes depending on your wallpaper). this is just a nitpick though. still a really great video
THE LEGEND HAS RETURNED 🗣🗣🗣🗣🔥🔥🔥🔥🔥🔥

Super underrated channel is back 🗣️🗣️🗣️
you're back :D
shes back!! :D
"Whatever... ...this is" is meant to be an asterisk
goated video per usual
the papercut android visual language looks so good 😃
Material 1.0 is from 2014-2018.
Material 2.0 which is what you describe as "pre material you" is from 2018-2022.
Material You is Material 3.0 which is from 2022 to the present
Android 7 and 8 in my opinion arent really papercut era or the pre-material you era, I'd say they are the undecided era inbetween that are a bit flatter but arent that much rounder.
Any design from 2017-2021 is called "material design refresh" or 2.0
Enjoyable 😅
Pre-Holo era and Papercut era are the best because the apps blend verry well with the touchwiz nature design language used for Android 5.0-5.1.1 (6.0.1 tunned down a bit and looks dawl in coparasion.

It’s been months!!!
the wait was crazy
Actually, you are calling the material 2 design "material you" but they are different: the material you was introduced in 2021 and some Google apps didn't update to material you (also called material 3) like contacts and classroom. Great video tho!
Its been a while
I'm such a nerd I love this so much you don't understand

NO WAY HE CAME BACK
I thought you were dead 💀 glad to see you are ok
Time to go digging in the Google graveyard.
I absolutely miss the papercut era. It was literally perfect. Why did they change it to the vomit green, dull blue, plain gray and disgusting yellow urine color
I miss the old material design 😢
Can you do this with Microsoft icons?
Ah google hangouts. I remember sending those semi circle emojis through chat on the computer in ye olde days of 2015.
UNDEFINED IS BBBBAAAACCCCKKKKK
