I don't even have a program currently, but I found the information very helpful. I've sung and played for years, but in terms of gear, I really don't know jack, and when it comes to recording in any serious sense of the word, I'm totally clueless. You broke it down and made it simple for people like me.
Good rap at the intro, why we want to study our development via recording. Making practice go ultra. Thank you. We overlook GB just sitting on our iMac’s.
I have a completely different interface, and use a completely different DAW, but my interface wasn’t working and this video helped me realize that I was on mono 1 and I should’ve been on mono 2 thank you for thid
What I don't understand: Using my Interface (Line 6 UX2) it seems like I have to use it with the software Podfarm that has all these virtual amps and stuff ... but what if I don't want to select one of those and record the sound of my own amp via microphone (or since I have an emulated out - directly into the Interface)? If anyone can understand my question I'd be grateful to hear a quick answer :)
Do you have any good tutorials on the control panel for different instruments in GarageBand, like where you can see the amp, distortion, lead boost, delay, reverb.. what is the creative rational and approach to those controls?
Hi Justin. How am I able to hear you playing and your recordings? Do you have speakers attached to your interface? I use a focus rite interface and also use garageband. But I thought you could only hear it with headphones on.
How in the world did you make the volume interface turn into a guitar? If I can do that it'd be much preferable to having the fool with the mixer until I found a suitable volume.
Very NICE Vid and Track!! Is it possible to get it, so I can practice what you have shown? Would highly appreciate; and thanks in advance!:) Found it!!
Hi ....low intermediate player here . Looking to record myself over a blues jam track . Can i upload a jam track from the net onto this software and then record my guitar solo over it ? Much appreciated...thanks
You could find a backing track on youtube and then google a youtube converter which enables you to download mp3 versions of youtube vids. On cubase I drag and drop mp3 files and then record over them.
What kind of garageband is this? My garage band has WAY les guitarsounds and has the selection tabs on the left of the screen..? I got the newest update.. is this an older one? I see this version in a lot of vids about garageband and it seems more handy to have.. thanks ;)
How can he hear himself playing after choosing "ONE" as the output device?. Do we not have to choose built in out put to hear the guitar through the computer speakers?
How important is the guitar model for recording like this?. I'm using an Ibanez XPT700 which is suppose to be really good for playing metal but the metal amps and pedals sound like shit when I record them. The clean ones sounds half decent but nothin special. Or could it be the interface? I'm using an art professional dual input interface.
Anyone have any idea why using the new GB with the iRig2 and a Les Paul, the sustain through GB is zero. No notes hold. Noise Gate didn’t help either. TIA
i´m using Adobe Audition, although Reaper is a decent recording and mixing software as well, but i cant get rid of the latency with Reaper... no problems with Audition... i guess that´s due to my crappy soundcard... you can get any recording software with VST plugin support and get an older version of GuitarRig (i got GR3) ....it´s basically what justin has on the right top, sounds and amp emulation... but be advised: those things can be pretty demanding on your hardware, especially if you use multiple effects on multiple tracks :)
Dražen Vida i just downloaded the demo version... works like a charm and offers an all in one solution for DAW and recording... exactly what i need... and for the low price, i think about buying it... thanks for pointing me to it :)
My iPad is not recognizing the irig that I have plugged in , not getting that green light going on and off on the top left corner or the Volume knob is working....I have turned the monitor on and went to settings and turned on a couple of things there also.... please help someone
When I had a windows computer I had Mixcraft and then I switched over to a mac this year. I can honestly say that mixcraft is a better program than garage band.
I don't even have a program currently, but I found the information very helpful. Thank you Justin. Hoping that this will be helpful to someone, I can confirm that the cable shipped with Rocksmith is working with GarageBand.
For people using Windows, use Pro Tools by Avid, another alternative which is free is LMMS for both Linux and Windows.
Good rap at the intro, why we want to study our development via recording. Making practice go ultra. Thank you. We overlook GB just sitting on our iMac’s.

Thank god for Garridge Band and Thanks for the video
Hello Justin from across the pond. Just found your channel on here. Really enjoyed the first video! Thank you!
Thank you Justin for all 3 of the Garage band tutorials. Very helpful, as usual. I guessing this is an older version of GB but super helpful anyway.
I have a completely different interface, and use a completely different DAW, but my interface wasn’t working and this video helped me realize that I was on mono 1 and I should’ve been on mono 2 thank you for thid
Justin, you make everything so easy and fun to learn! Darn, i picked up a few mac tricks as well in this video.
THANKX ALLOT YOU CLEARED A BIG PROBLEM I WAS HAVING! GREAT VIDEO!
Justin with another helpful vid. A+
You can use the rock smith cable which is around £20. Works fine with garage band
Yeah bro A+ totally helped me figure out how to record my guitar. Thanks man I was stumped.
this would be a great information resource in the day. Is there an updated version?
thanks for all lessons ... very very helpful
I actually think that hair metal tone actually worked well with the backing track
AGREED!:)
Hair metal rules 🤘🏻🕶🤘🏻🎸🍺🍺🍺🍺

Justin you are fab presenter !!
Start @ 7:17
The new garage band is so different
Love the tutorial! Love your playing too! Awesome job!

Whats your thought on the Kemper profiling? Have you ever used one?

I like Big Hair Harmonics.

thanks so much
I'd watch a video where you describe how you got that drum sound to get louder (I can do that) and slow down (I can't do that!)
Thanks for the great video ;-)
What a goat
Norm McDonald is hilarious!
Norm McDonald lives in a funny farm e yi e yi yo
That’s amazing
Hi Justin. How am I able to hear you playing and your recordings? Do you have speakers attached to your interface? I use a focus rite interface and also use garageband. But I thought you could only hear it with headphones on.
Hi Justin, I am getting some noise/hiss when connected to GarageBand, can you please advice on how to get a better cleaner tone. Thanks in advance.
Why do you need an "interface" Can't you just use a 1/4 inch jack plug from the guitar to the 3mm.input socket on a Mac desktop?
you can't plug into the headphone socket no...you need a usb interface
Not just that but you need a decent pre amp for it to sound good
Thank you!
You saved my arse.
How in the world did you make the volume interface turn into a guitar? If I can do that it'd be much preferable to having the fool with the mixer until I found a suitable volume.
Very NICE Vid and Track!! Is it possible to get it, so I can practice what you have shown? Would highly appreciate; and thanks in advance!:) Found it!!
get what? the track?
@@justinguitar
Yes, with all the separate parts like in your video. Soundcloud only has all parts on one track.
I'm using a simple RCA cable. :P
Plugin a USB Link. Cheap and great sound. Don't know if it works with a Mac though.
Hey man. How did you record the Drums? (Mic to the drums and attached to the Apogee or?)
I don't understan the end of the video... Why i'm suppose to take care of myself? I'm a rockstar dammit!
What about Apogee jam + is that any good for iPad iPhone and Mac ?
Does the video sound you made come from your MAC?
or It came from guitar amp?
Hi ....low intermediate player here . Looking to record myself over a blues jam track . Can i upload a jam track from the net onto this software and then record my guitar solo over it ? Much appreciated...thanks
You could find a backing track on youtube and then google a youtube converter which enables you to download mp3 versions of youtube vids. On cubase I drag and drop mp3 files and then record over them.
Can you use the apogee 1 with a MacBook Pro
What kind of garageband is this? My garage band has WAY les guitarsounds and has the selection tabs on the left of the screen..? I got the newest update.. is this an older one? I see this version in a lot of vids about garageband and it seems more handy to have.. thanks ;)
How can you magnify the size of the screen?
when i plug my guitar in there is so much static noise that it sounds awful.
Buy Irig 1. Its dirt cheap. Then use the Noise gate in garageband. Worked for me.
Can I just plug the usb cord into my computer and record that way in garage band?
Guys look up DEATHBLOOD MUSIC his music is so good!!
How can he hear himself playing after choosing "ONE" as the output device?. Do we not have to choose built in out put to hear the guitar through the computer speakers?
The ONE probably has a headphone out that he uses.
how about the apogee jam 96k ?
How important is the guitar model for recording like this?. I'm using an Ibanez XPT700 which is suppose to be really good for playing metal but the metal amps and pedals sound like shit when I record them. The clean ones sounds half decent but nothin special. Justin, can you provide the download link for GarageBand? I have tried and keep getting my AVG popping up. Thank you
Hey Larry, GarageBand is a Mac application that is free via the App Store. If you are on windows some folks have suggested using Mixcraft.
Bobby Johnson Okay, thank you Bobby. Appreciated.
Anyone have any idea why using the new GB with the iRig2 and a Les Paul, the sustain through GB is zero. No notes hold. Noise Gate didn’t help either. TIA
Hey Justin. Is there any alternative for windows?
Mixcraft.
i´m using Adobe Audition, although Reaper is a decent recording and mixing software as well, but i cant get rid of the latency with Reaper... no problems with Audition... i guess that´s due to my crappy soundcard... you can get any recording software with VST plugin support and get an older version of GuitarRig (i got GR3) ....it´s basically what justin has on the right top, sounds and amp emulation... but be advised: those things can be pretty demanding on your hardware, especially if you use multiple effects on multiple tracks :)
Dražen Vida oh actually, Mixcraft looks pretty interesting for just 80$... is it good? latency? hardware demands? any opinion appreciated :)
RSProduxx No idea really, I'm also investigating mixcraft. So far, I've looked several YT videos and it looks promising.
Dražen Vida i just downloaded the demo version... works like a charm and offers an all in one solution for DAW and recording... exactly what i need... and for the low price, i think about buying it... thanks for pointing me to it :)

Did I miss something ? On my apogee there is no line out, so how do I get sound out of my amp ?
Connect Apogee to your computer and plug your guitar into Apogee. You don't need to use an amp. You need a DAW like, GarageBand, Audacity, etc.
The most fun you can have with your clothes on!

What if I don't have OSX? Windows user here...
Does anyone know a good interface for recording electric guitar ? not too expensive :)
Focusrite scarlett 2i2 or 2i4
good tips - too much talks
I can't for the life of me get my interface to work.
what about windows users?>??????
When I had a windows computer I had Mixcraft and then I switched over to a mac this year. I can honestly say that mixcraft is a better program than garage band.
*****
THANKS man
Talking way too much w/o showing what you need to do!
Gratitude and patience builds character
Do I need an interface? Can't I simply plug the guitar into the audio input of my Mac?
You can but the quality would be pretty much low
How about running it through an amp?
I don't really know. I just plug my guitar directly into the mic input. Sorry.
I think it should sound better if running it in and our of the emulated out of the amp, maybe even preadding some modeling features.
This is what I use - works GREAT and gives you TWO inputs at once...
