Great video Micah,it’s been an interesting project to watch for sure! Enjoy watching you and the boys work together to fix a problem and take us along! Thanks for sharing!
That's pretty much how my spring worked back in Indiana. The concrete pool was built right against where the spring came out of the rock. From there it was piped in an insulated 3" metal pipe to a 1000 gal reservoir buried all but 2' made out of a 6' dia culvert with a concrete bottom. We used a submersible jet pump to pump the water underground to the house. Yeah we had to cover the tank and the spring head to keep the varmints out. FYI, we did get crawdads in the tank but didn't worry about them, the old timers said that was how you knew the water was good.😊 The pipe from the spring pool to the tank was metal so if it froze we could pull off the insulation and use a flame to thaw it out... only did that once in 10 years.
Hey..that staircase you guys built for the grain bin popped up and I watched every second...so,,Here I am all subscribed and liked and sending blessings to you all from South Alabama.
May be an old time cistern build in the future. A pool liner could keep the water from leaking out the bottom but you will need a lid to keep the pool goers out of the water. Another enjoyable video! Thanks!
@@McGieHomesteadAdventures In my previous comment I saw that I miss worded "bulb plugger" for bulb auger. I use a bulb auger to loosen up the dirt in the bottom of my post holes to save my shoulders from the root bar. I am sorry for any confusion. Thank you for sharing all that you do.
To keep the critters out I would put a cone filter onthe exit pipe a lagoon liner in the bottom and fill in with a semi course aggregate that way the stone helps filter the water of any leaves and such and keeps the animals out
If you've been drinking raccoon soup and you haven't died yet, guaranteed you ain't gonna die in the next week from poisoning of anything else. But it is always great to test your water and make sure the BPAs aren't leaching into your water if you're not using a food grade storage tank. I would trust that you know what you're doing because your family is a might healthy and your animals are still going strong. Great work, family and it's always a blessing to see you all harnessing the gifts provided by God. Bless you all and to our RUclips friends weathering these crazy, unprecedented storms. May God bring you peace in these times set out to divide and conquer by the enemy. Keep your eyes turned to God. Texas is still praying for you all. Israel and all the innocent people thrust into war against their will, too. ❤
Good morning Brother. Good work! Definitely don't want to be drinking that water with Raccoons waltzing around in it. Best wishes to you folks. Have a good day.
Micah if you didn't want to use concrete what about a pond liner or e p d m rubber roofing for your tank that would be easier than concrete. Than just put a lid on it
Learning is an ongoing process it's good to boys have a dad that doesn't mind learning when he gets older ain't Life wonderful 😁😉🐝 reminds me of some of those if ands or butt jobs I used to do
We use big black water tanks for Ice fishing shacks lol Maybe even deer blinds Lots of people use poly tanks to store water up here in Canada .. lots of rural places in city water .. so they have storage if the pressure goes down .. I don’t see any of them dropping from plastic. Most new homes are plumbed with plastic potable waterlines .. so plastic poisoning is total nonsense. I’d be more scared of the sun lol
If you’re eating seed oils like canola, etc….. you should be concerned about skin cancer. Animal fat only diets are almost nonexistent for skin cancer.
To bad the dam didnt work, was worth a try anyway, will be interesting to see if theirs any micro plastics in the water or not, if the water stays cool maybe won't be much, hopefully none in the water
That game camera showed exactly what I feared was out there at night with the racoons having a party in it. Nasty little boogers. Good news is all the ones with rabies are supposed to be scared of water. Still might wanna keep an eye on them boys for if they start biting each other. That little one already looks like he wants to get aggressive with the cardboard tube 🤣 This looks like a good fix for it. A lot better than the open pond was even if it needs a little work in the future to get it just how you want it. I'd rather drink the microplastic than the racoon and possum poo to be honest. Plastic tank ain't any different from a plastic pipe really. A concrete tank is fine but they say concrete can have heavy metals and stuff in it too so i guess it's a matter of picking your poison. Concrete can spring a leak or fall apart after so many years just like plastic can go bad from the sun. I just added us a second tank for a total of 800 gallon capacity and stuck it in the remains of my grandpa's old concrete cistern that was falling apart. I expect the plastic will probably last longer than the concrete did with a tarp over top of it. I bet yours will too especially after protecting it from the sun as good as you did.
I don’t understand why you don’t put a curved plastic dam just in front of where it comes out. Fill with washed stone/gravel. Cover with plastic and then backfill dirt over top of it. Then your water never sees the light of day or the pee of raccoons.
@@McGieHomesteadAdventures it’s definitely a balancing act but as long you let it flow sufficiently it shouldn’t back pressure. Make certain there’s overflow routes etc that keep it moving in the right direction. Your concrete dam is really not much different. Water is like electricity. It goes path of least resistance. That’s why it keeps trying to creep around the edges. A bulkhead into a spring box with appropriate flow rate COULD solve all those problems. Don’t get me wrong. Love the work you and the family are doing. Found your channel due to your spring house videos. AWESOME. I only brought it up as I was always taught that your drinking spring should never see daylight. Just too much danger for contamination.
@@McGieHomesteadAdventures I did and for its purpose that will probably be amazing. I was being less literal with the “light of day” comment. More along the line of never letting your water be above ground unless it’s in a pipe. Basically never exposed.
Micah , whereas y'all just found out the animals were drinking at your spring , the likelihood is that generations of those same animals have been coming to that watering hole for Thousands of years . . .
When these young men get older. They are really going to appreciate the knowledge that they learned while they were younger.
Yes indeed!!!
Amen to that my brother and sisters.
I would just like to say, that you have got the most respectful and hard working boys I have ever seen. That means a lot these days. Love your videos
Wow, thank you! I’ve always hoped I’d have kids like this……. And I did everything I could to make it happen!
Excellent video boys I surely enjoyed it. Thank you 🙏
Morning. Thank God we made it to see another beautiful day!
Think about putting a screen over and around all your water supply...
Keep up the great job...
I'm looking forward to seeing the new milk shed !

That’s awesome!!! I also like to see crawfish and salamanders in the water!
If you haven't thought about it already. If you dont put a screen over the over flow. The tfee frogs will be laying eggs it there.
Yes I’ve definitely been thinking about that
Brother Micah I’m SO glad you did that. I knew something was drinking your water beside you. 😂😂😂
Yes it was😂😂😂 amongst other things!😂😂😂
Good job, boys. Thank you for the video.
Our pleasure!
Always work for the flesh😊 rock on pawpaw and the crew

Micah and fam living that homestead life one day at a time. GOD bless you

Absolutely 100%! When they’re little it takes more time, but if you do it, they’ll save you a ton of time on the back end!
Keep working and vigilant with your water system. Good call to have the water tested - now and in future. As always, great teamwork, McGie Clan!

Good morning! Yes it was no trouble convincing the wife that a plastic tank wasn’t that bad!😂😂😂
Yes but were the raccoons doing the Tennessee Waltz? 🤔😃
Good plan working to protect the water!
The camera was set on photo mode only, so we have to make some assumptions about what was taking place between shots!😂😂😂
The Roman water system wasn't built in a day! Trail and error. Keep us posted, thanks guys 👍
You got it!
Mine dried up. I'm 30 years I don't ever remember it being dry even in drought.
Yes it was very dry!

Truth!!😂😂
Sorry the dam didn't pan out. I enjoyed that build but since it didn't work I got to enjoy another 😁

Several reasons. If I put it up close to the spring, it’ll cause the spring to re-route, and I’ll lose my water source.
