I've lived in Iowa since 1999, I just heard of it this weekend while driving through. Being a native Minnesotan and someone who loves the water, it all made me happy and choked up a bit.
Does the drawbridge at 9:21 contain a road or a railroad line? Thanks. I thought the only way to get to Sabula from Illinois is the Dale Gardner bridge and Route 52/64.
@glennso47 After severe flooding in the 1950s, new levees were built that completely surrounded the village, protecting it from major flooding, except for seepage that tends to fill some basements during high water. So Sabula not only can claim to be Iowa’s only island city, but could almost certainly claim to be Iowa’s only city that is completely surrounded by a levee. The drawbridge at 9:21 is railroad bridge. Thanks for watching & commenting!
Excellent!

Does the whole city ever get flooded out? I grew up in Mount Carroll Illinois but I don’t remember ever seeing Sabula in person.
