This is a video about how I leverage my street photography into money making opportunities as a photographer. If your trying to find a video with a get rich quick scheme this is not it. Hope you can take the way I see things and apply them to your situation. Thanks for watching!
Evan Ranft Man the internet is packed with $10,000 watching videos videos. Thanks for keeping it real. 2020 goal is to make $50,000 in a year doing what I love. Street is very hard for me soooo Respect🥂
I make a lot of dough at FROZ ENP A. C 0 M
Most famous street photographers all had commercial or fashion photography careers to pay the bills. Street photography was more of an outlet. Fred Herzog was an award winning medical microscopic photographer, Saul Leiter shot a lot of fashion and commercial work, Ernst Haas shot a lot of advertising and commercial work, Slim Aarons was a set photographer on movies for 40 years, and the list goes on and on and on. We don't hear about that aspect of their lives but the reality is none of them made a living off of street photography eventhough that's what we know them for. Transferable skills as you said. In 2019 I would say that the number one way big Instagram street photographers supplement their income is through expensive workshops. I always ask people what is your end game in doing photography. Surprisingly most people don't have an answer or have a wrong understanding of what actually pays the bills.
Love this comment, thanks for adding the conversation and providing some great insight!
I love the work of Saul leiter . He didn't make any real money from his work until late in life ... And Fred Herzog another great photographer ...
I make a lot of dough at FROZ ENP A. C 0 M
Thanks Evan. You are one of the good ones on here. No dramas...
Hey. I had done some street photography last night while I was in New York City. I was inspired by you. Thanks for the content.
So basically you don't make money from street photography... You make money from clients in lifestyle photography.
red panda maybe if you payed attention to the video. Them skills you learn from street photography translates to other work.
Mr Greatness yes it can open doors to paid work but Red Panda is correct, you aren’t making money directly from street photography.
Phil W well you can with photo stocks actually. Probably not great money. But as someone who does street photography it def has helped me with other types of photography.
Phil W or selling your prints making photo books etc
No I do through prints and my photo book, but a huge piece of my income also comes from what I talk about in the video 🙌
best channel and most informative out there! dig your work man
On 'Stock photography', (for the US)if the photo is of a news worthy event and/or you ONLY license it for editorial use there is no need for a release from people in the photos.
Damn that room is coming along nice, great vid man
I'd add Documentary Photography to that list of difficult types - like street, but everything harder.
Love love the advice !! 🤓
This video has really given me a boost. Thanks for making it.
Very encouraging. Thanks a lot Evan!
Good explanation, was thinking of doing that "fake shoot" for something that I had in mind for sometime.
Will give it a shot.
Very helpful video, Thanks Evan!
Evan thank-you for the video. A couple of questions
1. When in your career do you know it's time to print a photo book?
2. For the idea of putting your photos the bar/gallery what size did you print and how did you display (mount) your work? Starting on a small budget - mounting, framing etc can be expensive. Thank-you.
Awesome video, great inspiration and insights. I’m still in the beginning of my photo adventure.
Thank you Evan for the info.
Another great informative video man keep it up
great video. im currently in the 'awkward' phase of doing free shoots for models to build my portfolio and theirs and the occasional paid shoot. its a struggle but i'm slowly (very very slowly) making contacts and getting my name out there.
Im about to start doing the same. Kinda intimidating but gotta get it off somehow.
@@EloEast it gets easier with each shoot to be honest. i was super nervous to begin with but you soon realise the models are just people too. the hardest part for me at the moment is getting my work to stand out from the hundreds of other photographers doing the same thing. I feel i need a reason for people to pick my work. good luck anyway :)
sad lie cheers mate and best of luck you as well
I'm at the end of that phase, getting ready to charge. I wish 🤞 you the best
I'll do what I can to help out
helpful, as always. thank you!
Great vid man. Have a killer week. 🤘⚡💯
Thanks!! You too!
Good word. Thanks for sharing, brother!
Love how concise and informative this video was I of course have a few questions.. what is the average fee for headshots. What form of printing and paper do you use for your work? Thanks again and I ha e subscribed
Hi Evan, thanks for the tips. I am wondering, why are you not putting high-res images on your website as a portfolio? Would love to see them on a bigger screen.
Cool thx for the great info!
u da man. love from chicago
your just a legend mate
Great video Evan :)
Thank you! 🙏🙏
This is an interesting video on photography. I want to get more experience with street photography 📸.
Great Video , Thanks for the tips! ;)
Thank you! Appreciate you watching!
I gave the 1000st like :)
Making a "proof of concept" is something I'm currently working on. Could you make a video about how you'd approach a client this way? When and how to bring up the proof of concept/pitch to them. Maybe I'm just overthinking it.
How did it go
..good video ..good advice ..TY! :)
Will you be able to ship your photobook to more countries? (e.g. Singapore?) Really keen to get a copy!
0:04 I was gone do that anyway, its like you know me. #Subscribed LMAO
good stuff ,good stuff
how would someone go about getting their photography into a gallery?
Thank you mate )
Great video! Is it OK to reach out to a company/client you want to work with even if they already have a photographer they regularly hire?
Absolutely. Show how you are different or can help bring them to where they want to go!
Did you mention photography agencies!? You put me on a new one!
An alternative to life style photography is doing photojournalistic wedding photography. I love Kevin Mullens, a Fuji U.K. Photographer. He is a street photographer in the wedding venue. B&W. Natural light. All candid. Beautiful work and worth checking out.
Mask on Nurse Marty
They location aspect is something I am going to chew on...thanks Evan
What printer would you recommend?
I did my books with blurb, they’re awesome!
How do you make your portfolio?
Everything is good, in answer to your question
❤
I love street photograhy , but i dont know where to start, after trying it with my phone, i wanna buy a beginner camera, what is a good lens , i thinking about a nikon 5300 or 5600, but you get a basic 18-55 lens with it, what should i get
Hey, I hope you're open to getting advice from fellow togs. I have a Nikon D3400 and I shoot quite a range of photography from weddings to fashion to portrait and commercial. I started out with my 18-55mm for everything before I purchased a Yongnuo 50mm, then a Nikkor 55-200mm and recently a 35mm Yongnuo. For street you can basically use anything depending on what you picture. 35mm is great for wide angle shots. 50mm pretty good if you wanna get 'tighter' shots than the 35mm. But you can just start out with the 18-55mm and go out and see what you get. Watch composition videos and tips, and how to work with natural light at different times of the day. Those two things are key before you even get to the lens type.
Hope this helps.
I have the nikon d 3400. Biggest mistake of my life. Get something from the d7*** series or get the old d700 so you have a large variety of lenses (nikon f series). The used market is your best friend. Also a fast prime like the 35mm 1.8 will help you a lot cause the kit lenses are thrash especially after the sun comes down.
Namukolo Siyumbwa thanks
Lyax Edm thanks will check them out
I recommend the best value combo, canon 6D and 50mm.
With you not sitting at the dead center of the frame tilted me so hard 😂
Harold Lau it would be interesting to see someone talking to the camera while sitting at the left or right third
@@owendoyle8815 it's the irving corner but subject not sitting in the corner haha
Yessir
Appreciate you watching!
You just said rolodex. You just exposed your age🤣😭
notification squad, this'll be a good one.
🙏🙏🙏
👍
Have u ever shot milky way?
Yeah love it!
Hi Evan.
What’s good!
Wishing I was making money with street photography, instead I’m losing money with college😂
Exactly why I left school. Wasnt getting anywhere fast enough and felt like I was just teaching myself what someone else told me to learn. Discovered my passion for photography a year ago and I feel like by just putting in the work I've come so very far.
Not saying ya should quit just that if you do quit it's not that big of a deal
I wonder if there's a way to make money on the spot with this. Offer a $3 portrait in 3 minutes. Send the photo to your phone, send the photo to their phone, then show that you're deleting their number from your phone. 🤷
.. or you can shoot speed traps photos to make money from tickets! ;)
Haha they let robots do that! They work for free 😂
@@RanftEvan and this is why robots will never win war with humans .. they are just stupid :p
Long story short: You can't make money from street, learn product or portrait. Lol 😀
Let me get paid
:)
Thanks for watching!
So you don't make money directly from street photography?
Dont say FAKE...Say Proof of Concept ....(Same thing but better wording...haha)
James Parish I guess it's not fake I mean your taking photos. Just not for a specific client. Plus it showcases what you can do. Like a Demo. Lol Phoyo test drive. 😁🥂
Agree! I had another take of that clip where I said prof of concept but this one flowed better. But you’re right 👍
Lots of empty talk about yourself and no sound advice, basically a hot air winsdom.
