Great overview. I had a SL1 and uptraded to this model and was feeling a bit lost until I watched this. Feeling much better acquainted with my new toy. Thank you!
Thanks Toby has allowed me to get into this camera much faster. No excuse for not reading the manual but as they say a picture is worth thousand words.
Great video... I especially liked your hi-tech pointer :) You referenced many more videos to come in your user guide category. I would like to, most humbly, suggest that you consider naming them in sequence. BTW... this is my first RUclips comment. Regards, Leonard Leonard
Thanks a lot for this walk-trough. I have had my camera for a few weeks and learned things here I did not understand from the manual. Very well explained, Keep up the good work!
Hi Toby, Finally took the plunge and bought myself a serious DSLR. I bought a brand new Canon 70D with 18-135 STM lens. Bargain price saving about $US700. Only disappointment so far the weather, too much rain, but summer is coming and New Zealand will be at its best. Good to see you are still having so much fun with your photography, and wondering when is your next trip down under to our part of the world. Cheers to you and yours.
Thank you for this walk-through of the external buttons of the Canon EOS 70D. As you know I have had mine for some 6 weeks now, Still I found the information helpful and much easier than reading in the manual.
Hey absolutely loved the video. Just a quick question, so whenever my camera is on and the Lens are on AF mode the lens keep zooming in and out and it makes like a motor noise to find the right focus and then when it’s focused on a subject it stops. Is that normal or is that not meant to happen. I picked up this camera from a Friend recently. Please help. Thanks
Superb video! Really informative. Im 4months into the camera and im just barely knowing how to fully utilize the functionality of the buttons. Especially the Depth of field preview button. Thank you so much!
Nice video. Thanks. Can you please tell me if there is a way to adjust the size of the box for autofocusing in Live View in AF Flexy Zone-Single. I would prefer a smaller box for more precise focus area. Thanks a lot.
I just got the Canon 70D a couple of days ago. I couldn't rotate the zoom lens it came with. I tried a little harder, and heard a pop before the zoom ring was able to turn. I then found the "lock" on the lens. It still does its job, but my older lenses for the Rebel XS don't have such a thing.
Hi Toby, many thanks for this video, it was very helpful. During the video you make reference to future videos, are these going to be 70D specific or general?
didn`t catch if you mentioned the fact that the SET button ,doubles as the MENU button, which I find helpful because I also have a 60d and it`s on the right side, makes it very handy to have 2 menu buttons
hi mate, thanks for your nice videos.. I just want to ask one question.. i know 70D is a feature rich camera, but is there any difference in image quality between 70d and 700D(t5i) ? i am really confused about what i should buy... should i go for 70 D and a descent lens ( i.e 50mm 1.4) or 700 D and a good L lens (35mm 1.4) or just the 6D body?? because i can only afford one of those .. I do have a 24-105 L lens though.. i will mostly shoot wedding and other parties and few landscapes thanks in advance
CameraRec Toby Need your help please. I bought camera canon eos 70D. Very happy about it, the only thing is that when I am copying photos from card to my computer, after that when sd card is put back to camera, I can`t view some of them in a camera, It is written "cannot playback image". I thought problem is in sd card, but with other cards still the same. Photos are still on a card, camera just not displaying them. What could it be?

Am a beginner of taking pics, i wanna know what are your thoughts about getting 70D with 18-135mm lens for beginners like me! Def sub!
toby kindly help me i bought my canon 70d last dec.27 when i start video the camera said movie recording has been stopped automatically within 3-9sec duration
Glad I could be of help! Always happy to answer questions and sign up for my newsletter - I will be releasing a 70D user guide later this year digital.photorecommendations.com/recs/newsletter/
what about the lock latch, no one talk about that, not even the manual, and how about the button that's underneath the lens area? can someone help please?
fafa1258 Turn off Image Review - this is on the first camera page in the menu. Now press the INFO button until the screen goes off. Once off it should stay off unless you press menu or start live view.
Could you tell me if my camera is broken, when I am record mode it only records for 15mins or less than stops, sometimes it gives me a msg that there is a corruption and has to stop
CameraRec Toby On the 70D can we use "SCN" Scene mode for video or is it just for photos. Really dig your facebook page... glad I liked it... learning a lot via my facebook feed about these cameras now. I only bought this thing for video, I want to make sure I'm getting the best quality in the AutoFocus mode cause I have no clue how to run this puppy on manual lol. My white balance in Auto made is way off. I could be on one part of my desk and it's and move the the other end (in video mode) and one side is way better lit in the video but the entire desk is lit the same. It's like the camera makes the video darker on purpose. For anyone who is into photo and video ... his facebook page is a must. He does not spam you and his posts are meaningful / useful.
It is not. Canon full frame cameras are 6D, 5D Mark II and 5D Mark III - there are a few older and also other more expensive options but those are the current popular full frame models from Canon.
i just bought a canon 70D .. when i put it in video mode it says "this Function is not available in the movie shooting mode " ?? can someone help me !! thank you
Yep - watch this for a little more demo but it can go direct to phone/tablet or computer or online via hotspots Canon 70D/6D Wifi Features: Setup and Demo
Great and informative video. Unfortunately it's EXTREMELY annoying how many times you mention that "you will explain this more in a future video". Please refrain from self-plugging or foreshadowing. It's completely unnecessary. Seriously, count for yourself how many times you repeat that phrase 😣
Get rid of the irritating pop-up banner at the bottom of the screen and you'd have yourself a video that wasn't maddening to watch. If it didn't block one third of what you're trying to watch, it might not be so bad.
😀This man is gifted at explaining how confusing camera devices work. Detailed camera views and audio. A natural teacher.
Well I really appreciate that!
best 70D advice informative without the clutter …. all your 70D videos are good

if the file is from another camera, it cant be viewed, if the file is from the same camera(70D) , it means it's corrupted

Why turning off lens stabilizer on tripod? What happens if i just keep it on all the time!?
You run the risk of getting blurry images. There is a strange feedback that can happen when the camera is on a tripod.
Excellent vid ...most informative ..i shall be seating my missus in front of this to train her up to a DSLR !
Thank you. Very helpful.*****
can u tell me if this a full frame camera pls?

I bet you have Wifi turned on? Make sure your dial is set to A or better P for easy video shooting.
You got something wrong. On the front just to the left of the lens is the red-eye reduction light.
Very helpful.. thanks
Anyone know if the wifi can be used to transfer pics to a computer or phone?
Yep - watch this for a little more demo but it can go direct to phone/tablet or computer or online via hotspots Canon 70D/6D Wifi Features: Setup and Demo

So I should give away all my work for free? - you can close the banner.
