@@barbaraar2184I have a young toddler and so have to get up early with her, but one day when she is a teenager and old enough to go to school on her own I will likely eventually start keeping my natural hours again, which is to stay up till 2 or 3 and sleep till 9 or 10 (I work remotely).

I was a night owl most of my life no matter how hard I tried, some people are wired that way. Now that I’m in my 30s and worked years of night shifts my body is ready for sleep at 8-9pm! I’m still not sunshine and daisies in the morning but it’s more doable. Also we love Kefir, we usually have a bottle in the fridge! Our friend who lived in Russia for a couple years introduced us.

I am night owl too, since my teenage years. Had my 3 children in my 30's, and even though they would wake up in middle of night & about 7-8 morning, I couldn't go to sleep at a normal time. Without young kids & hubby underfoot I could get alot more done. Also it was the best time to give the kitchen floor a good cleaning & finish any dishes & pots. It always seems I have to wear myself out, before I can sleep. Now I'm much older, retired & by myself and I'm up later & sleep late in morning, unless I have an appointment.
I, too thought of my late nights as my quiet time & enjoyed them, when my kids were around. Enjoy all your videos & keep them coming. Especially enjoy it when you take us around shopping & the countryside. God Bless!

Bless you all. This is the second video today confirming that some of us are naturally night people and there’s nothing wrong with that. A week ago my closest cousin and friend literally threw me out of her house during a visit claiming all I did was sleep all day and stay up all night (when I’d altered my schedule while I was there to be up by at least 11 or noon and in bed by midnight because she went to bed at 8:30 pm). Then last night my lifelong best friend told me I’m not normal for being up all night and sleeping during the day “because circadian rhythms don’t work like that”. I’ve had this preferred sleep pattern since I was a child and am fed up trying to “fix” it with drugs and treatments. I don’t understand why people think I have a problem if I am attempting to accommodate their schedule.

I've always been a night owl too but go to bed even later than you. Part of what's nice about the night is that because it's not business hours, you're less likely to be bothered and it feels like the time is somehow your more than during the day.

As a night owl (and cat lover) I can relate a bit to your routine. Research indicates that whether one is a night owl or morning bird is partly due to genetics (heritability). I come from a family of night owls, but unfortunately am the most owly of them all- am probably more of a vampire. Since the bulk of society is based more around 'morning people,' I've always felt ambivalent about being a night person. But it looks like you've put your nights to good use!

Hi Victoria - I’m also a night owl but I have insomnia. It started when I was my late husband’s caregiver during the time he was sick from his lung cancer. I had to give him various prescribed meds during the night hours - help him to the washroom - and make sure he didn’t go outside in the cold in his pyjamas. The cancer had affected his mind (like some people who have dementia) and he wanted to go outside in the dark. Though this was several years ago - I still have it plus my brain won’t shut down at normal bedtime. I don’t want to take drugs in case I have to wake up in a hurry. I enjoy your interesting videos as they are about everyday life. Take care. Cheers from 🇨🇦🍁

Oh my, I am also a night owl girl, married to an early bird boy! It is sometimes difficult to have such different rhythms, but we've also found it handy for dividing work between us! The society generally treats night owls as lazy (and this is very stupid), but I have also been a night owl ever since I was little and so was my mum. I did a gene test on 23andMe recently and I felt really validated - it showed that I am genetically as night owl as you can be! So I do not fight with biology, but use it to my advantage and work when others (the non-lazy ones!) are snoring in their beds!

My husband and I are both night owls, I've always been one, even as a small girl. He works afternoons/evenings, so we get up around 11 and go to bed between 2 and 3. I work from home so that helps. You're right, getting up earlier doesn't help, there's nothing virtuous about it if you're exhausted.

Over the years, I’ve been struggling with people around telling me that I have to change my schedule, that I have to make more effort to be active in the morning, that that it’s not a “normal” and healthy biorhythm, etc. Why do some people consider that their “normal” is the only one that is correct and everyone else’s has to be changed?! 🙈😆

Being married for 45 years can be exhausting sometimes! I am 68 and started work when I was 15. God, I feel this so much. Night time has always been the most comfortable and productive time for me too. Like you mentioned, it's time you have for yourself because everyone else is sleeping and that kinda makes it magical. I can actually concentrate on things instead of worrying about hundred things going on at the same time.

as always it's a pleasure to watch your videos so thank you for sharing all these moments. Your two cats are adorable: we can see they are happy with you. The ginger cat adores you and is probably grateful to have been saved from the street. It's impressive how he seems to have adapted to the house: he doesn't want to go out despite his old life? In any case, congratulations also to your first cat who accepted this companion (it's not always easy).

I'm actually a morning person, but I spent so much time working the night shift that I find I get more done at night. No one calls you and you don't have to deal with a lot of traffic. I love going grocery shopping at 1 in the morning, no crowds. If I'm really restless I've gone for a mile and a half walk in my neighborhood at midnight.

Kefir I grew up with. It is a kind of milk. Healthy for kids. Also I add sugar and crisp bread. I like strawberry yoghurt as well. Great to work silent late evening before going to bed. Tidy in a way. I often put the dish into the disher very late.

I am completely the same way as a night owl. No matter how much sleep I get, if I have to wake up early, I will be so tired all day. I gave up trying to be an early bird, too.

Always a night owl. Loved night shifts at work. We also use kefir! I enjoy the drinks, and my husband buys a sour creamy, thicker version for hummus garnish. We found the farmer cheese you use for syrniki at our local market!

It's clear there's no such thing as 'feline insomnia'. 🙂
Apparently, before artificial light was common, the terms 'first sleep' and 'second sleep' were well known. Many people would wake up for a few hours in the middle of the night, do a few things, and then go back to sleep again. It was artificial light (and 9-5 jobs) that changed everything.

I used to be up late at night as a teenager studying etc. Later on when I had my daughter (a month before my 25 birthday) my sleep pattern drastically changed. As I have aged it worsened to the point where I only sleep for 2/3 hours a night and sometimes not at all.
I have seen Kefir in the grocery store and wondered about it. The section is very small.

My whole family are night owls, we stay up late and don't get up early. It's really hard to change that as I'm naturally more alert at night than in the mornings. But it's not necessarily a bad thing! 1:30am would be too late for me though

I think kefir is becoming more popular in the US, and we can definitely find it in health-food stores. I bet the store-bought kind is less tangy that what you get in your part of the world...but my mom used to make it at home and that was very sour and delicious! It's still one of my favorite late-night snacks when my stomach is a little bit unsettled.

Thanks for the information on Kefir. On how to pronounce it and how it tastes. I've seen it here in Texas USA but was leery. I know now to stay away from it. 😂
I was like you being a night owl when my kids were little. Now that they are teenagers, I like rising early like 3:30 am (in the morning 😜) to get my Bible study and other tasks done before going to work.
Thanks for taking us on your life's journey, big and small.

Oh gosh don’t let Victoria sway you away from kefir! Maybe it’s different in that part of the world but the kefir I’ve had in the US has been delicious, especially the berry flavored ones.

@CarrieJamrogowicz I like regular yogurt but nothing sour. I don't even eat sour cream. I have loads of sensory issues with food. (If it's the wrong color, smell, texture and even look....I'm gonna channel my inner 2 year old self and keep my lips closed. Lol)
