The original owner was Herminia Montinola. The Sanson-Araneta scion only inherited it, I believe, because the wife is a Montinola (correct me if I'm wrong). Anyhow, the first nationwide reunion of the Araneta clan was held here. This mansion is beside the Colegio de San Jose, run by the Daughters of Charity (DC Sisters) of St Vincent de Paul (Vincentians). It's the oldest private school in Western Visayas, established in 1872. The late Doña Mariquit Javellana, wife of Vice President Fernando Lopez of the clan that owns The Nelly's Garden mansion and the Boathouse mansion (shown here) and TV channel Abs Cbn, graduated here at Colegio de San Jose.

Kung yung esplanade sa Arroceros po ang sinasabi ninyo... yung unang Esplanade po ng Iloilo ay 2012 pa ginawa at ngayon ay halos 10km na ang haba.
Inalis lang po ang mga squatters sa Iloilo River at ngayon ay nakatira sa mga relocation site ng Iloilo like the Iloilo River Plains Subd. Yung relocation program ng Iloilo ay finalist sa isang Intl. Award Giving body that identifies good gov practices sa mundo.

Marami na pong mga MANSIONS sa Iloilo ang na rehabilitate in the last decade or more. They are now currently being reused aa cafes, restaurants, spas, offices, BnBs, museums, etc. Very active po ang conservation ng cultural and heritage structures sa Iloilo City.

Wonder if this is part of a heritage society of some sort....perhaps they can help with the refurbishing and/remodeling of the entire "mansion". It's seen better days, for sure.
Iloilo City Heritage Conservation Council has been responsible for identifying and rehabiliitating heritage infrastructures in the city. There are so many old houses and buildings saved, rehab and reused for many years now.
You should do Assumption school. Built in 1892. I went to school in at Westbridge High School, which was rented from the Lopez family in the early 1990s. It's the Lopez Mnasion you featured in this video.
The Westbridge High School is run by the Opus Dei Fathers. It is a brother school of Southridge School in Alabang, MM. It now has its own bldg and compound at the Nabitasan, La Paz District.
That's the "new" Westbridge school. The original one was the Lopez mansion rented from the family, which operated under Mann Rentoy, the high school principal back then. I went to school there in 1991 to 1992.

Hi sir. I just happen yo come across your vlogs here in YT. My mom's family also came from Iloilo. My mom's family used to own the old, large Spanish house adjacent to Colegio de San Jose, a few blocks away from the Sanson-Montinola Mansion. According to my mom, the last owner of the house she knew was her aunt, Atty. Valentina Esposo who once served in the Minister of Agrarian Reform.

@@armandosune3839 Yes, she was po. Her daughter's name is Maria Cecilia Esposo and her husband was named Jose - as much as my mom could remember. My mom is 70 years old and doesn't really remember the house's name though she claimed that it was once owned by a couple of unmarried sisters. Do you happen to know her po? 😊

To the left of the Lopez Boathouse is the former ABSCBN. At the back of the ABSCBN is another Lopez Mansion , visible from the gate. At the back also of ABSCBN is the very beautiful tiny all red-brick chapel of the this Lopez Mansion at the back of ABSCBN. After the Lopez Boathouse is the beautiful American era clapboard Conlu Mansion, visible only when you are allowed to go behind the car dealership bldg in front. Across the street are 2 more mansions be see side the St. Clement's Church. Here in this area alone , you missed a lot of mansions already.

@@kaRUclipsro you also need to see the Locsin Ancestral Mansion, Joaquin Ledesma Mansion, Casa Mariquit (oldest built in1803), Yusay Consing Mansion, Rafael Lopez Vito Mansion. Santa Barbara Church and Convent and a lot lot more.
Antillan house is half timber half brick or adobe while Castillan house is entirely made of brick or adobe
