Thanks for this awesome detailed review. Just picked up the Nakamichi 7.2.4 system. The 9 is too much for my space. Just a couple questions. Did you have to do a firmware update on the soundbar right out of the box to get the Dolby Atmos? And do you have or will you be doing a video on the soundbar settings for the best experience with your devices? Ill only be hooking up an Apple TV 4K and a Samsung 4K UHD DVD player. Can the Nakamichi remote control all these devices by itself? Thanks again!
The Nakamichi literally places you in the middle of the action. The added feature of SSE spatial sound assures the best sound produced with regards to the size of your room. I highly recommend the Nakamichi for those who want movie sounding experience as close to the theatre. Love it!!

Awesome review, and with Nakamichi on sale on Amazon, it's my choice for next sound bar. Thanks! Edit - 11/25/20 received my Nakamichi from Amazon today and set it up. Sounds great. Needs a little tuning but way better than my old 7.1 with receiver. I'm a little surprised that the RCA cables are so thin. I hope they last. Good luck everyone and I hope you find what you're looking for.
Got My Nakamichi at 1088 Black friday price hooked up to my Samsung QLED 82in It basically makes my living room into a mini IMax theater. it's clear, it's loud, it's immersive, what more could you want from a surround sound system.
Great review. Excellent comparison, apples to apples. I love that you separated it into categories, and asked the opinions of your friends. More channels need this format and more unbiased, blind experiences. Thanks, man. I've been on the fence about the Nakamichi system. The price point puts it very close to that of a decent dedicated surround system (minus the AV receiver). You can get the Klipsch 5.0.2 system from Costco for $899 ($799 on sale), add a couple subs for $380 and some more bookshelves for $120/pair. If you're limited by space and no AV receiver, the Nakamichi can't be beat!!

@David Mander and what would you recommend over a 1000w soundbar setup with 4 surround sound speakers and 2 subwoofers? I have searched up best surround sound system and what pops up as number 1 IS this nakamichi soundbar setup
Great review. I agree that if you have the space the Nakamichi is the way to go if you want a more theatre like surround sound experience but but I am SHOCKED anyone would pick the Q950T over the LG. I have owned both and I find the exact opposite. The Samsung rear speakers had massive connectivity issues, cutting in and out.
That’s the one that I ordered the nakamichi. I can’t wait to have it! And I think exactly the same that your friend I had and lg sk9 sound bar with rear speakers and the price was all together in special was around $925 but I didn’t like the smart bar I don’t need it I have my echo dot. So I just got at the end the nakamichi in Black Friday deal for $1088 no a big difference in price but in the quality makes a big difference
Not exactly the same company. They were bought by a Chinese company in the early 2000s. The quality is still pretty good, but not on the same level it once was
I've been saying this all along on the Nakamichi Shockwafe 9.2.4, on how awesome it is for theater sound! I am very happy with my purchase. I am wonderng how the test would have resulted with one subwoofer off.
Thanks you guys, great rundown. I am seriously considering the Nakamichi but am really hoping for some Intel as to whether they'll soon offer a fully wifi or Bluetooth version- I hate exposed wires!
I’m thinking about getting the nakamichi but just curious they kept saying 3 had way more power is that bad? Could it sound just as good as the others if you just turn down the volume?
I don't think the way more power is bad in my opinion :) I have the 9.2 at home and it so amazing when it comes to watching movie and playing games. It's so powerful that my entire house was shaking.
@@AshleyJae12 thanks for responding. Lastly how well does it handle height sounds. Considering it lacks a dedicated up firing speaker. How well is the height sounds. My k950 does height really well.. U feel for example like the rain is indeed failing from the ceiling.
Most people seem to confuse "loudness" or more wattage with better sound. Not really! I have Nakamichi 9.2.4 and Q950T - and "quality" and authenticity of sound is way better on Samsung. Also, Nakamichi does not have upfiring drivers - so I find Atmos effects better with Samsung. I guess this is a "pop" review and not a review for a true audiophile. No HDMI 2.1, eARC support either on Nakamichi.
Regarding eARC just read on Amazon.com „All units sold since Aug '19 can receive Dolby Atmos surround via TV’s eARC when streaming with TV’s smart apps like Netflix ...“
@@smartLooser The TCL 6 also got the eARC update but when I plug it into Nakamichi it says eARC: ARC Active instead of eARC: eARC active how do I activate that?
I have to concur with you. I own nakamichi but I was curious about q950t given a lot of good reviews. So I grabbed one set from Bestbuy just to compare them side by side. the quality of the sound is indeed better on Samsung. It's clearer and crispier. Its height effect is also better than Nakamichi. The downside is that I wish its bass could be a bit more punchy. After the comparison, I am now thinking of getting rid of nakamichi
I know this is a 4 month old video and you might not read my comments but I wanted to try anyway. I love this type of comparison, I think it is a good way to demonstrate products. I think your method was flawed though. You said you wanted it to be fair, But it clearly wasn't, the excessive bass from the 1000 watt system was distracting for them and it equated to louder=better but that isnt necessarily true and in a case with a smaller room might not be the better way to go. I think you should have balanced the over all volume closer for each unit regardless of the settings so that your friends would compare them at very similar volume levels. My point is that I think you should have considered the Nakamichi is 1000 watts, whereas the Samsung is just over 500, nearly half the power. So it would be a better comparison for everyone if you balanced the levels to be equal, so then you are comparing both fullness at equal volume and quality. We know the 9.2.4. 1000 watt system is louder and more full like a theater, BUT is it better? Also I think a 9.2.4 set up is hard to beat IF you have a lesser set up, the Nakamichi is going to be much more surround and 3d like due to the number of drivers alone at any volume. But it lacks Earc something you never mentioned. This means you cant get lossless audio from it. . Anyway thanks for the video other than being frustrated over the uneven comparison I do like this type of content when I want to compare tech.
Not sure of the cause but there is some serious bass going on while you're interviewing your friends. Not from any of the test material, just some crazy rumbling that doesn't match up with anything on screen.
Nakamichi shockwafe is just louder and nothing else. In frequency response it looks like nakamichi shockwafe plays approximately 6 DB lower between frequencies of hundred herds and 150 Hertz. This kind of uneven response is absolutely horrible. Don't take my word for it, 2-channel stereo with one SVS sub will give you a better result with regards to sound quality
What about the full bose 700+ subwoof900+ surround speakers vs Samsung q950t !! From many vendors they tell me bose 700 with subwoofer will beat any soundbar even tho it doesnt have dolby atmos
I feel like you are doing a disservice to the LG system. I know they have a calibration feature which optimizes the sound for your personal space, so while it's seemingly fair to have all soundbars on the same settings, that's not taking advantage of the tools to make the LG sound more effective. I'd love to hear the test again with this calibration applied.
many reviews have been talking about ground-shaking bass on the q90r, i've got mine since yesterday and tested 6 hours but i can get "acceptable at best" when i crank up bass and subwoofer to the maximum which is +6. i know placement is a thing but i can barely feel it moving when laying my hand on it during bass heavy music. newest firmware is on aswell. anyone got any suggestions?
