This sound bar is definitely the highest you can go before you start getting into full speaker setups. I have the 7.2 version and I found your review to be very accurate. There is a way around the popping noise too. You have to change the frequency channel on your router to fix that.
yeah, thats why wires are important. Had the Sony A9 system with the sub, and it is very very good. However, it cuts out every so often, too much for a $2500 system. Hopefully the Quad fixed these issues.
Great Review! Love your no non-sense approach. I've had the 9.2.4 for a week now. It is fantastic IMHO,. I'm by no means an audio head. I can tell you that music streamed from my iPhone sounded terrible until I applied the FW35 update. The Dolby Atmos sound while watching movies is every bit as good as an IMAX theater. It tried placing the speakers in different locations(angles/distance etc...) My untrained ears really couldn't tell the difference while streaming 4k movies with Dolby Atmos. The engineering tact they took with this makes all the sense in the world.. By having the Subs wireless with power and the satellites only needing speaker wires for power was right up my ally. Entirely wireless speakers have to get power from somewhere. This comes at the cost of loudness or recharging batteries.
Yup,ive had this system for 8 months. I researched it very heavy, cons no earc, and internet asscessible download. But soundwise, the best. Lotsa of different settings, and experimenting is howvyou find your best sound. Stay safe happy listening
Have the 9.2 and love it ! It has quarks but very few and if your into Movies and newer TV shows that stream in 5.1 and atmos then you will love her. Great for small to medium sized rooms trust me.
Have mine in the br paired to a LG C9 OLED. Occasionally theres some slow connection issues when switching to 4k player,ps3,channels. But i love it. Put my rear speakers up by the ceiling
Thank you so much for the review! As for me, I never experienced a single pop, and I've had mine for close to a year, using two diffferent routers. For the ones who are experiencing this, I read ithere are settings on the router that can be attempted to resolve the issues. The bass on the subs in my opinion have plenty kick and punch, but that is only my opinion.
Appreciate the account. I did not find a solution within my router settings nor soundbar settings. My take is that if a router can make the bar do the kind of popping I experienced, there was a really big bleep up. I like the subs, very good coverage, but compared to the best kit subs, they did seem to lack a little definition. I think it was really close to a really good system

I have the elite... I want to upgrade to ultra with out buying a new soundbar... I know I can purchase more satellite speakers and the 10inch subs separate but how do I get the sound bar to recognize the new channels like a firmware update ect...
Nakamichi's next attempt should be to put bigger oval/racetrack drivers in the Soundbar even if that means positioning it at an angle to accommodate the size and use newer HDMI 2.1 ports.
I have the 7.2.4 nakamichi elite... can I buy extra surround speakers and the 10inch subs from the ultra.... will this upgrade my elite to ultra or do I need to buy the ultra....
If you’re nice to see you review a Yamaha YSP series. The way it does it’s digital surroundsound is very interesting. I am currently using a YSP-4100. I’m quite satisfied with the sound. My main issue is it is a fat boy. there is no way for you to put it in front of your TV 4”-5” tall. Paired with the leftover Onkyo subwoofer. This was my upgrade from a YSP-800. Both units I bought secondhand. Absolutely love it.
I want a soundbar that does have good compelling Atmos sound, but I also want to listen to any kind of music, my musical tastes go from Musical to Metal, from Spice Girls to Sepultura, and from Gothic to Grindcore, but usually I don't listen to computer made music (House and Hiphop). Other than this one I've been considering the LG SN11RG, Bang and Olufsen Beosound Stage, and the Klipsch Cinema 1200, when I watch movies it'll be from my expansive disc collection, which do you think would fit the best with my LG OLED tv? My couch is set against the wall.
Since jurrasic park 3 idk why the sound is so “muffled.” Comparing the first jurassic on 4k physical disc, especially the trex scene the roar is fantastic - the clip you showed is exactly how i hear it on my set - even on my klipsch 5.1.4
Recording soundbar audio well is difficult and expensive. I’d prefer a more sophisticated setup. Glad you got something out of it. I don’t think DTS (Jurassic world) sounded as good as Dolby on this bar
One thing no one seems to ever address. the frickin wires on the floor. You trip over them, have to try to avoid feeding them to your vacuum cleaner or pets. These should ALL be wireless.
I was really surprised with the poor customer service from Nakamichi. I was VERY disappointed they removed my negative feedback on Ebay. It's flat out unethical for them to present themselves with "100 pct positive feed back" They sent me a broken unit, then the wrong part, didn't know what state I'm in, and did a poor job communicating with UPS when the package was late. I spent hours trouble shooting things that were not my fault;I specifically bought this system for ease of set up. Then they wouldn't let me return it without the box, and even if I did have it, they wanted to charge me shipping.
22:12 if you would of start here you could save me 22:12 minutes. It’s a sound bar , if the sound is harsh then nothing else matters. I would advise u to maybe take some pointers from other stereo gear reviews, although there some nice addition to ur reviews I like, like the animations.
I have the Q950T and I have not experienced any sound cutting out whatsoever and I use it for both movies and games so it's either LPCM is so rarely used nowadays that I haven't come across anything that uses it yet or his Q950T didn't behave like it should.
ya mean after the 357hrs it takes to get the Elevate almost right? :p. seriously though I would love to find the addressed setup frustrations many quite experienced reviewers have described...i mean those rotating speakers are just 'nifty', yeah I'm old and still use that word... so there! ;) yes a head to head would be interesting or did that happen recently?
If it didn’t have the pop, how will you compare it to other soundbars. Also will you be doing a review of the 7.2.4 version? Btw you’re becoming one of my go to on here.
I think the raw sound is definitely lacking. Almost want to compare to SN11RG which kind of disappointed me on the sound fidelity. But like I said, this bar really shined with Atmos - I can’t think of a better soundbar on this front. I think the extra sub and two extra speakers really fills out the bubble
I brought this sound bar due to the high reviews it got. After using it I would say the reviews are way overly positive. Either everyone has very low expectations or they have never heard a quality system. I guess if u are going from an ipod to this this is a great system. But if you have something to compare this system (like Bose) with than there are a lot of shortcomings that does not demand this price. The followings are some of the issues I found with the 7.2.4 system after 2 weeks of usage: 1. The system is present to turn on at volume 45, need to load patch to fix. 2. The sound system logic is very basic, nothing compares to a full fledge sound amplifier that provide much much more audio detail. This system lacks any directional audio detail. 3. You can bearly hear anything out of the rear speakers, they are only ON about 5% of the time. 4. The sound producted from the system is just loud with very very minimal surround sound detail. 2d audio vs 3d audio 5. The connection wire for the rear speakers are very thin, it's about 3mm thick. I guess it doesn't matter because no audio comes out of it anyway. 6. The speaker setting display is on the center soundbar behind a grill, display in pixel led. You will not be able to see the display if you are more than 5-8ft away. For the price they couldn't create an on screen display? Useless 7. The Audio sounds like you are in a tunnel, I guess thats what they think 5.1 should sound like. 8. The speaker will sometime pop as you traverse through Netflix selections. 9. There is a 5 second delay in Netflix after a selection before sound comes out of the speakers. 10. The solution for the slow processing speed for the volume control is to have the volume selection slip every other number. So, the volume control is only usable by 2 digit increments. 2, 4, 6, 8, etc. So if u think 7 is just right too bad that is not available. Super dumb! 11. The inwall screw anchor is one size too large. There is a great chance the screws could pop out. You should insert an additional anchor into the one provided. 12. The sound level fluctuates. 13. The HDMI cables that came with it are garbage. For a grand, I would think they could spend $10 bucks for a better cable. I guess milk you once since they know you won't buy again. Smart business. 14. The location of the HDMI plugs are brainless. This is a sound bar that will be mounted on the wall below the TV. But the placement of the HDMI plugs are at the back of the unit not even facing up. Little thought was put in to design this system. I just did all the work for them on version 3.0 for free. Overall, this system didn't meet my expectation and the brand quality of Nikamichi. Will come back if I find anything else. Please give me a thumbs up if this was helpful. Update (April 2021) - These speakers are garbage. I just can't express how much I hate these speaker. Over price junk. It has so much problems that it should be considered Beta speakers. Today the soundbar just started to automatically turnoff every 20 mins. I guess it because it decided to put itself on standby mode. I spent 2 hours and still cant find out how to turn that off. JUNK! (JAN2022) - I had to come back here to provide another update. I thought I could get use to the system after some time. But one can never get use to garbage because it just get more disgusting over time. This sound bar is beyond the ability to describe. If you pay over $200 for this system you are over paying. That is why you see so many people trying to dump this garbage. I surprised there is a class action lawsuit for the grief this system cause! Please save yourself the agony and buy something else.
@@Asian_Connection ML only good for music not surround sound. If your getting a soundbar for a home theatre like experience the Samsung q950a is the best bet. For movie theatre rooms jbl synthesis or B&W best. Music rooms ML is the best
@@elistap3989 Yes, I know ML is not for surround sound. But my taste for quality audio is heighten. I wish I got the Samsung than Nakamichi. I really don't understand people who say the NAK is great. NAK doesn't even do surround 90% of the time. it's nothing more than an enhance TV speaker system. Total garbage for the price.
Thank you for your time on this product, I have been seriously contemplating this product even with the steep pricing. I think seeing your full review, and the popping noises, confirmed with Mattmantube in the comments, I may have to look elsewhere. After your quick review last time, I was really looking forward to your thoughts today.
The shortfall is cheap dynamic drivers. Yet, the whole price is still too high for me. Now good Atmos Speakers can be found for 200 bucks a set, so 400 bucks for the surrounds, get subs and then you are just missing the center and left right, that's close to 900 bucks add a decent Atmos Receiver and you are set.
Man I really want to buy this sound bar. but, now I’m not so sure. It’s between this and the Sonos arc now that it has two sub support. I think it the arc.
@@neverenoughtech There is a dedicated fix for this with firmware 35. Just hit the direct button until you get dedicated frequency (DF) and turn it on.
You REALLY got to check the Philips Fidelio B95 or even B97. It is beyond belief in terms of clearity and precision. Way better than JBL 5.1 and 9.1. It has among the best decoders too!! There are zero reviews online as of now, so be the first! :-)
But I would love to own this sound system. But cant afford it right now. If someone wanted part with one, my ps5 would wet its circuit. And one day ill pay it back 10 fold. Heres to hopeing.
After trying for about two weeks I had to return my Nakamichi system because of those pops that you mentioned. I had lots of interactions with their customer support and I read all the files they sent me. I even changed my router settings to align more with what they wanted. customer support sent me a new sound bar when I could not eliminate the pops ..... this one did not process the video. thank you for mentioning those pops .... customer support acted as though they had never heard of this problem before .... they even insisted that I make a recording of them and send it to them which I did do. Thanks again for your very accurate and thorough assessments. Matt
If you release a product with the pops you kind of failed - whether a router can fix it or not. I didn’t have any luck fixing - I did see the terminology of popping in trouble shooting literature ‘popping/sound dripping /etc’ - but the specific steps never seemed to address the popping issue. I think they are trying to bury it. Appreciate you taking the time to share your story
@@neverenoughtech If you look around closely at reviews from customers on amazon, you should know that Nakamichi provides very good customer support to anyone. I have basically interacted with them and found them to be very steady in answering my questions and resolving things. I don't think they are trying to bury it. They are just trying to diagnose the issue to further understand what is going on before taking the next step instead of playing merry go around with customers, in the process of wasting their time which some brands are doing. Recording soundbar audio well is difficult and expensive. I’d prefer a more sophisticated setup. Glad you got something out of it. I don’t think DTS (Jurassic world) sounded as good as Dolby on this bar
@@neverenoughtech yeah which is unfortunate because my preferred method is physical media especially for 4k movies. Thanks for the reply!
One thing no one seems to ever address. the frickin wires on the floor. You trip over them, have to try to avoid feeding them to your vacuum cleaner or pets. These should ALL be wireless.
My sofa is 12 feet wide. Will that be too wide to use the soundwave with the subs on each side and half moon surrounds?
No
I was really surprised with the poor customer service from Nakamichi. I was VERY disappointed they removed my negative feedback on Ebay. It's flat out unethical for them to present themselves with "100 pct positive feed back"
They sent me a broken unit, then the wrong part, didn't know what state I'm in, and did a poor job communicating with UPS when the package was late. I spent hours trouble shooting things that were not my fault;I specifically bought this system for ease of set up. Then they wouldn't let me return it without the box, and even if I did have it, they wanted to charge me shipping.
Are those tweeters silk tweeters or titanium tweeters???
22:12 if you would of start here you could save me 22:12 minutes.
It’s a sound bar , if the sound is harsh then nothing else matters.
I would advise u to maybe take some pointers from other stereo gear reviews, although there some nice addition to ur reviews I like, like the animations.
Well taken … but keep in mind there are time stamps in the description. I expect most people to skip based on their interests.
I have the Q950T and I have not experienced any sound cutting out whatsoever and I use it for both movies and games so it's either LPCM is so rarely used nowadays that I haven't come across anything that uses it yet or his Q950T didn't behave like it should.
Totally agree. I love the q950t. No issues with it
How about a showdown to the death between Elevate and Nakamichi?
Thisss
ya mean after the 357hrs it takes to get the Elevate almost right? :p. seriously though I would love to find the addressed setup frustrations many quite experienced reviewers have described...i mean those rotating speakers are just 'nifty', yeah I'm old and still use that word... so there! ;)
yes a head to head would be interesting or did that happen recently?
The love child of actors Boris Lee Krutonog and Igor Jijinke.
How would this system do with RUclips music ?
I don’t think it sounds that good period but if it were to play to its strengths it would be spatial music … which I don’t believe is supported
Hey Dan! How does the Nakamichi compare with Samsung's Q990B?
Inferior - but it’s two sets of surrounds so perhaps give it a spatial edge if arranged ideally - 990B sound is so much fuller, richer, and natural
@@neverenoughtech Thanks Dan! Just ordered the Q990B today! If it is better than my Philips Fidelio B95, it will stay with me.
@@neverenoughtech Hi Dan are you excited about the Nakamichi Dragon 11.4.6 soundbar?
@@neverenoughtech before the Dragon 🐉 by Nakamichi let's compare the new improved 9.2.4 shockwave with Earc and 1300 Watts!
The followings are some of the issues I found with the 7.2.4 system after 2 weeks of usage:
2d audio vs 3d audio
Useless
Ur saying Bose is high quality😂😂😂
@@elistap3989 Compare to the Nakamichi it's like a ford to a lambo. I have high-end systems ML, and AR. So might might be more sensitive to sound
Total garbage for the price.
detailed, very detailed
How about Nakamichi Shockwafe Ultra 9.2.4 eARC vs SAMSUNG Q990D Review Please.
Any other bars compete with this one bass wise?
Get the Klipsch cinema 1200 and grab another powered bass … I think 2 is important if you’re serious about cinema experience
So which do you prefer the Sonos arc or the nakamichi?
Nakamichi for the night, Sonos for life
Finally, been waiting for this
Thank you for your time on this product, I have been seriously contemplating this product even with the steep pricing. I think seeing your full review, and the popping noises, confirmed with Mattmantube in the comments, I may have to look elsewhere. After your quick review last time, I was really looking forward to your thoughts today.
Ugh the pop noise drove me nuts just in this review
Recommend an all around simple bar please!
Sonos beam or JBL bar 5.1 surround (detachable surrounds) - $400
Arc or Bose 700 for $800
Vizio makes a great model for around 200$., its not amos, but its great for movies and music. I have the nakamichi ,and the vizio in my other room
On it's tiny little legs!
😂😂😂😂
I love this channel!
Nakamichi is better at Atmos and supports DTS - Sonos is better in every other way (no popping)
The arc is awesome. Especially with dual subs.
If you don't want a theater experience and want more music content do the sonos if you want the "Warren Theater experience" then get the Nak
@@Eazymango Excuse me, just coming on board. What is the "Warren Theater experience" refer to??
Eazy Mango what does this comment even mean? Tf
So Sonos Arc and Sub. Got it.
That’s how I’d go, but everyone’s got their priorities. Mine is to not have a popping sound every 3 minutes
@@neverenoughtech just ordered it the other day. Your review helped!!!
@@neverenoughtech There is a dedicated fix for this with firmware 35. Just hit the direct button until you get dedicated frequency (DF) and turn it on.
Was on that setting all throughout testing. Didn’t seem to address the issue. Just heard a pop while writing this (SMH)
You REALLY got to check the Philips Fidelio B95 or even B97. It is beyond belief in terms of clearity and precision. Way better than JBL 5.1 and 9.1.
It has among the best decoders too!!
There are zero reviews online as of now, so be the first! :-)
It seems really difficult to get in the US. I’ve wanted to review it. If I’m missing an obvious seller please send a link
How about contacting them directly and experience it for yourself?
Had a very similar experience as you, updated the bar to fw-34, changed the router, sent them audio clips and wound up getting a new bar from them as well as going into the new bars setting and putting the subs on their own frequency. I haven’t had a problem since, its definitely a common issue that they need to address however overall its hard not to love the system for the price and what you get..nakamichi has room for improvement but are on the right track
this seems like a good system for the price. Until you get down to all the details.
Any pops is a wifi frequency. There was a firmware update that let's you change the sound bars frequency so it won't make the pop sounds anymore you should have looked that up noob
Tried it didn’t work ...wasn’t going to endorse
@@neverenoughtech lies scam
I think someone would need to hire a professional to set up a home theatre if it’s going to get this technical...what happened to Dolby 5.1?!?!? LOL
Went to live on the Bose soundbars
Is it old tch ToDay.
So it’s pseudo Atmos..
No - real Atmos - upward firing speakers are not required anymore. But I kind of think any system without ceiling speakers is kind of pseudo Atmos.
