En el seno de la sant andreu jazz , proyecto con 8 años de vida en el momento de aparicion de este nuevo cd, la voz adquiere cada vez mas relevancia.
Entiendo este maravilloso instrumento como una parte muy importante del musico, mas alla de que a posterioiri lo pueda utilizar profesionalmente o no.
Me interesa la conexion del oido interno con el instrumento, y esa conexion se hace palpable con el canto. Por eso incentivo a todos mis alumnos y a mi mismo , a cantar y tambien a escuhar cantantes, porque de ellas-os podemos aprender muchas cosas en referencia al fraseo , al ritmo , a la expresión ... entiendo tambien que nuestra capacidad de improvisación y de creación no solo viene dada por nuestro conocimiento de la harmonia y dominio del instrumento , si no por nuestra capacidad de imaginar ( cantar interior o exteriormente ) melodías
Paralelamente a la coleccion Joan Chamorro presenta ( Andrea Motis 2009, Eva Fernandez 2012 ,Magali Datzira 2013 i Rita Payes 2014 ) he iniciado este nuevo proyecto en el cual la voz es la protagonista principal; para esta primer trabajo he querido de alguna manera unir en un mismo escenario a estas cuatro artistas, cantantes e instrumentistas paralelamente y he contado, como ya es habitual en mis trabajos de los ultimos años, con un grupo de increibles musicos que consiguen con su manera de tocar y de ser, extraer lo mejor de nosotros; Ignasi Terraza al piano y al órgano, Josep Traver a las guitarras y Esteve Pi a la batería .
Para varios de los arreglos he contado con el gran pianista y arreglista : Joan Monne, asiduo colaborador nuestro . Sus arreglos instrumentales, pero sobre todo los vocales han hecho trabajar mucho a las jovenes cantantes, y estoy convencido que el reto que suponia llevar a buen puerto estos arreglos, las ha hecho crecer como vocalistas.
LA MAGIA DE LA VEU, en esta ocasion rinde tributo a 4 grandes cantantes y lo hace a traves de las voces ya citadas : Magali ( Billie Holiday ) Eva ( Dinah Washinton ) , Andrea ( ( Sarah Vaughan ) y Rita ( Ella Fitzgeralt ). y lo hacen utilizando canciones que solian formar parte de su repertorio.
es mi deseo , para aquellas personas que no conocian el jazz vocal que atraves de este trabajo y de estas jovenes voces sientan curiosidad y empieces un camino de descubrimiento de lo que puede ser una fuente de placer inmensa: Billie, Ella, Dinah, Sarah y otras voces tanto masculinas como femeninas les estan esperando
Extraordinaria versión del archifamoso tema de Cole Porter. Creo que no desmerece a ninguna de las cientos que he debido oír hasta ahora. Tres voces bellísimas, cada una en su estilo, salidas de la inagotable factoría Chamorro. Andrea Motis, más clásica, Eva Fernández más íntima y sensual, Magalí Datzira más original, con unos cambios de registro de una frase a otra como yo no recuerdo haber oído nunca. Y por supuesto el gran Ignasi Terraza impartiendo magisterio en cada solo al piano. Video para atesorar como oro en paño.
Si le gustan los cambios de registro, lo remito respetuosamente a escuchar a la mejor, BILLIE HOLIDAY, y si es la misma canción tanto mejor. Saludos

These talented young, beautiful female jazz musicians-Andrea Motis, Eva Fernandez and Magali Datzira (lead vocals) are amazing protégées of Joan Chamorro who plays the acoustic bass in the background. Datzira’s singing evokes that of jazz/blues great Billie Holiday. Refreshing to see a revival and appreciation of jazz by these younger musicians who are passionate and disciplined in learning the musical art.
Wow what a great sound, she has such feeling in her playing - She is so talented and with a great voice too Brava 👍👏

She is wonderful. Magalia has a very unique style and voice. Eva and Andrea are great as the backing singers. Both are extremely talented singers on their own.
IMHO, Ignasi Terraza is one of the finest jazz pianists alive today.

Definitely works, BANG! Lead singer brings another slant that's nice to hear after this song has been sung by just about everybody else. Her female compadres support and express in heat-beats of blissfulness doing one of Cole's Porter's most popular tunes real justice. Well done ladies!
You can't forget this band. It chugs along with real reverence for its genre. As a guitar player my ears feast on how sublime the guitarist sits at ease punctuating the little bits that make the song speak to its audience just like the master of this kind of playing method was popularised by Freddie Green, the master of rhythm guitar in a big band setting. Sorry to labour the point, it has to be said that in an age of post-Hendrix/Clapton guitar players with their widdley widdley throttle the song antics, this guitar player shows that the instrument's power is not all about being up front and in your face. Subtlety won the day.
The rhythm section i. e. bass and drums sit tight and support the whole just as it should be but know instinctively when to push and pull. Talented skill.
Last but not least, the keyboards plod through the arrangement at a steady pace and provide ample embellishment wherever its needed to the organic wholeness of this unit. When its time to do what this music has been used for since its inception i. e. as a vehicle for improvisation, the keyboard player takes his turn starting with a laid back break that leads to a more excited flurry of notes towards its end. Nice to see that he enjoys playing his bit.
Homage to Cole Porter.

I love this. I loved it when Cole Porter did it and honestly I like this version better. She's got this Billie Holiday thing going on and the band and back up singers are all beautiful together.

Ignasi Terraza's piano solo has George Shearing moments added to his own stupendous talent as a jazz musician. Like George Shearing this amazing pianist is also blind. Outstanding! The lovely young lady Magali Datzira dazzles me when she delivers jazz style like a young Billy Holiday. She is Spanish and she sings this in a second language which only makes it more magical. The harmony when the girls sing together is delightful and their accented English is so charming. To top it all off they are having fun. What kind of wizardry does Joan Chamarro have that he can find and develop talent as he does. I am both baffled and very happy that he can do this. I continue to visit his videos everyday now as a birthday present to myself on the occasion of my 85th year onthis great planet which seems now in such peril...but not musically. Jazz has been rescued.

They have always been 100% supportive, taking in a soloist's success as a common success. Here, Magali is the youngster and I see Andrea and Eva as even in their superiority. You wouldn't notice from their demenor! Two supreme examples are "A tisket, a tasket" (Andrea bonding with her asking wee trumpet collegue) and "Moody's Mood for Love" (blank shoulder edition)" where they all get excited about Magali's achievement at 6 minutes!

Magali, where have you gone. Listening to your talent six or seven years ago I heard a promising great singer. Then there was a few bits of 'not so good' and now you've disappeared into the wilderness of 'like every other performer'. Come back please, and bring Eva with you.
Some ex members of the SAJB are slow to realise that things that Joan Chamorro brought they are going to have to find for themselves: choice of material, great arrangements, thorough rehearsals, relentless high standards, opportunities to perform. And just in Barcelona, never mind the rest of the country, there appears to be a lot of competition.
@@robertvanruyssevelt7159 These women have been getting more gigs lately------------you are correct that besides just teaching, he found gigs and exposure for all of the SAJB grads. Magali and Eva have been heard around lately. Magali has posted some gigs in France in a group called AJA, with her brother on sax and some other players.

Joan Chamorro is not only a remarkable master .... But he is above all an immense and true artist with all that that implies.

Magali has jazz/swing under her skin, and it comes out from her beautiful voice, with emotion, felt in each and single note. Bravo! Great and deep spontaneous expression, fluidity is an impressive sensation left to the listener/spectator. Am a jazz flistener for many decades; I have no doubt to include MAGALI DATZIRA, between the top jazz singers, ever!

when the song began after the intro, i was hooked and my jaw dropped all the way throughout the rendition and regained composure only at the end *__* this is an outstanding presentation -- the swing beat, accompaniment, and the those three sensuous ladies...
Incredible harmony. The joy and enjoyment all of them exhibit while performing this song, the perfection of the accompaniment, tasteful, groovy, jazzy, and respectful of the original spirit of the song. Amazing.
