those projects look amazing.. i make at least one mistake on everything i build, the worst is when you build something as a gift and you make the tiniest mistake.. its impossible to sleep at night lol, recently i built some twin frames for a two piece set of artworks, i used reclaimed oak flooring and for the most part it looks great but i could have planed it down a bit more so a few dings show and etc.. but after they were finished, only i can tell probably and i actually like the slight distressing. ill be able to tell for ever that i made those and ill remember the love that i put into the build.
Great video on turning back time on some of your earlier builds, and the first thing i noticed right off the bat was that Lego windshield 😂 man we're getting old.
Great video, just what I needed! I’ve started basic wood working projects in my garage and hoping to build up to make chopping boards and boxes etc. I got into it all thanks to your great videos, keep up the good work 💪🏻
Something I learned a long time ago is that woodworking videos don't show a lot of mistakes and typically capture the most pleasant parts of the project. I think it's good to show some of those screw ups.
Thanks! I needed that! You've been an inspiration since the beginning of my journey, gonna take that inspiration to the shop and do something with it. Fingers crossed! I've got all these tools and no projects!
I appreciate you putting this video out there. As a noob 48 yr old wood worker, it gives me hope that I can, maybe one day be a someone that can make good projects! Thank you.
Fantastic video. No matter what you do, it's always fun to see where you came from. The good the bad and the ugly and it's fun to see how the levels of those three changed over time in what you can now tolerate or not.
I want to eventually remake the humidor, holding myself to a new standard. It wouldn't have been fair to hold myself to the quality that I think I can meet now.
Too kind. It's embarrassing to make a video showing all of my project flaws because most videos on YT tend to hide flaws. But I'm still proud of my journey.
People are always the most critical of their own work because they notice the mistakes more than someone else would. I Absolutely love the dart board case
Seeing your first projects confirms something, you’re a natural with woodworking. Great humidor, making your own moulding?! I still don’t try that, buy now I will. My first real woodworking project was turning a wood bowl with a snug fitting lid on the lathe in 9th grade ! Really enjoy your channel, you inspire me to step up my game with this and your other videos, Thanks ! 👍
Great video and reminder to look at old projects and see how we've (hopefully) grown and not be so hard on our current selves. Also, glad I'm not the only one whos handwriting has not improved at all since I was a child, lol.
Thank you!! This is the encouragement I needed right now! My father-in-law gave me some really good wood (mahogany, walnut and teak) and I am afraid to do anything with it for fear I'm going to screw it up and I can't afford to replace that wood. I've also had the same feelings about finishes - way too much input from waaay too many people on the "best" finish to use. I like your philosophy - K.I.S.S. ! I'm going to try some of the dye stains at your recommendation. Thank you, again.
Great overview of your woodworking progress, Billy. No criticism from here. We've all been there. I think the main mistake you made on the humidor was omitting layer 438 (lol). Take care and we'll see you later. Bill
Oh, I'm sure no one who is not a woodworker would notice most of them. I see them like Superman with xray vision. But we're all that way when it comes to our own projects.
When you get into woodworking as a rookie, you soon realize that a good carpenter/ craftsman is a marvel. Skilled workers can save one alot of time, frustration and even expense.
You definitely have a lot of natural talent and based on the way you “fixed” some of your issues with the finish of the, dart board, your research skills are top notch as well!
I'm always up for constructive criticism, but it's more important for me to be able to self identify flaws without asking for opinions. That's how I grow.
I thought that was an impressive looking dart board cabinet, but I don't play darts. I think it was quite a learning project for you, imperfections & all. You ended up with a very functional project & that was your main intent. It is a successful work. I liked your son's backboard paint too. I think too many craftsmen, I've seen some of your other videos, are their own worst critics. I'm a 74 year old woodworking hobbyist who has been pounding nails since I was 4 or5.
We absolutely are our own worst critics. I used to show people my stuff and constantly show them the mistakes. I was able to finally break that bad habit.
I really like your channel, mostly because its not just a gimmick of you 'building an epic shop', which is really nice, but its kind of played out for me.

Your message is so refreshing to hear. For some of us, it’s suppose to be fun - no need to constantly “keep up with the Jones’.” Thank you!
I try to talk a lot about my woodworking journey, not anyone else's. We only compete against ourselves.
Remember a beginner woodworker makes mistakes, a skilled woodworker knows how to hide them.
And makes less major mistakes. Mistakes will always happen. But at least they are not typically ones that ruin a project.
Great video on turning back time on some of your earlier builds, and the first thing i noticed right off the bat was that Lego windshield 😂 man we're getting old.
I can't believe that windshield lasted so long! I wish I could remember what amazing glue I used.

Something I learned a long time ago is that woodworking videos don't show a lot of mistakes and typically capture the most pleasant parts of the project. I think it's good to show some of those screw ups.
Thanks for the perspective. Keep up the good work!
Thanks! I needed that! You've been an inspiration since the beginning of my journey, gonna take that inspiration to the shop and do something with it. Fingers crossed!
I've got all these tools and no projects!
Well, you better get out there and make something with those tools!
Really needed this video today! Thanks for the inspiration. No mistakes, just happy accidents.
Exactly!
I appreciate you putting this video out there. As a noob 48 yr old wood worker, it gives me hope that I can, maybe one day be a someone that can make good projects! Thank you.
We're all noobs at something. Often you see me trying new things, meaning I'm a total noob at whatever that is.

Great stuff as always. Thank you for sharing.
Glad you enjoyed it
What you call embarrassing is very different to my definition of embarrassing. You`re a natural buddy!
Too kind. It's embarrassing to make a video showing all of my project flaws because most videos on YT tend to hide flaws. But I'm still proud of my journey.
This was the video I needed , informative , entertaining and I really think this is the best woodworking video I've seen in many many moons!
Thanks for the kind words. Now I have a high bar going forward!
People are always the most critical of their own work because they notice the mistakes more than someone else would. I Absolutely love the dart board case
Oh, totally. I know non-woodworkers couldn't point out a lot of these issues.
Great video Billy, I'm sure a lot of woodworkers or potential woodworkers will be inspired by it.
Thank you 🙏

Then you have more turning experience than I do. I'm sure your 9th grade bowl would blow away whatever I attempt to make first.
Great video and reminder to look at old projects and see how we've (hopefully) grown and not be so hard on our current selves.
Also, glad I'm not the only one whos handwriting has not improved at all since I was a child, lol.
I have the WORST handwriting.
Dude, I’m down with both of those projects. I think they are great for making those early on in your woodworking career or even after.

Jump in. Most situations are fixable. You will surprise yourself with what you can accomplish.

Ugh, I knew I forgot something! That would have been the perfect solution.
Whoa, that was so wonderful and so super intriguing to watch my friend :)
Thanks!
hey that dart board cabinet is really nice, besides a few little errors give the piece character and you really don't notice them anyway.

There is so much good information available to us. It took a bit of research but it really worked out.
I think it was a great video, the people that look for flaws, are flawed in life and should look at themselves before judging others. Great Job

I absolutely love the shirt.
Thanks, I made it! I'm trying to put some of my fun shirts on my website so others can pick them up.
If my projects have more than three mistakes I cut it down to pieces a keep it for another God know what. So far scrap.
