This is a prime example of building on your knowledge base over years, youll eventually get to a point where you can have an idea and just make that game
Spelunky -> Deep Rock Galactic -> Rain World -> Outer Wilds -> FEZ -> Tunic is an insane run of influences. If this game truly takes elements from all of these games then I HAVE to get it!!!
every part of this games comes together super cohesively, awesome work. the sound design and music are goated. i’m really curious about the technical details like reverb pathfinding idk if it’s a good idea since the camera is different, but have you considered hollow knight combat mechanics? like namely being able to down-attack to bounce off spikes, and requiring a down attack to do the current bouncing off enemies u have implemented. just seems like a really good fit for this game.
oh my im glad I clicked on this video, I havent seen a good devlog in a while but this is insane, the visuals, how you explain things, the SOUND DESIGN are all insanely high quality. I can see you put a lot effort into this, also absolutley love everything about the game.
I like this game idea! The darkness of the game adds in a good level of mystery over a game like Spelunky for example. Something I recommend is zooming out the camera just a tiny bit more. The steam trailer, and the screenshots I think are just a little bit claustrophobic. You could also increase slightly the radius of the light around the player. Well made devlog though!
I agree with this. I work with a really large monitor, and looking at this game in fullscreen (I simulated it by full screening some screenshots of it) is simply really jarring to look at and causes eyestrain for me. An option to zoom out the camera by 2x or 3x and doing the same for the HUD (both simply to reduce the onscreen pixel size) would be a great accessibility option.
@@rattttooooo i agree! perhaps the solution is to just playtest and adjust the zoom until it is most universally liked. and then have sliders to zoom it out if you want!
Would love to see more videos on sound design and fmod in Godot since it's not really covered often. Procedural Animation and Enemy AI would also be great as a fan of Rain World.
Dude this is actually insane, you are an incredible game dev, everything i hope and aim to become. Im honestly really stunned after watching this video, i was not expecting to find a hidden gem of this much grandeur. Most definitely buying Deeplands on release (if i like the price ofc). My youtube recommended has finally started showing me all the good devlogs the past few days, Im glad, You all give me a goal i know i can strive for, making a -great- game solo, evident by all the amazing solo devs I see working thrice as hard as me every single day.
fantastic production quality! The little pixel art animations throughout the video, the audio polish, art, and concise explanations had me sub and wishlist instantly. I would love to hear more about how you implemented the sound pathfinding and occlusion systems. Keep going, just from this one vid I can tell your channel and game have a ton of potential!
I feel like audio design/implementation especially is one of the least resourced aspects of indie game development and you have some great application of that here. Would really love to see more :) thanks for all the info in this vid!
damn. this is awesome! i was already fully committed and then you showed your sounds & music and my jaw just dropped! i don't know if i am more excited for the game or the soundtrack for it^^ keep it up!
Dude, this is brilliant. I am a bit biased because you were inspired by a lot of my favorite games, and rolled them into one. So excited to see where this goes!L
Also, if for some reason you need any more inspiration, I suggest the book on Spelunky’s development and the game Reventure, if you haven’t already. Again, absurdly excited 😄
This looks super cool with just 8 months of work! The one thing I couldn't help but notice is that you show you have all this dynamic music, but it seemed like by default the sound effects (ESPECIALLY the walking sound effect) were so loud you wouldn't be able to hear the music at all. Otherwise it looks fantastic and I can't wait to see more!
Awesome devlog and game! Further than that, great video! The flow of information kept me hooked the entire time, and I loved the music throughout the entire thing :) I can't wait to see where this series goes!
I was falling out of love with game design and going harder into software development as that's my job. This devlog just brought me back. I want to work on my game again. Really nicely done video, cool game, and I love the imposed limitations, love the detailed explanation of how the breakable ground works and how the level generation works. Please keep it up, looking forward to seeing more!
I love it! Definitely like some others have said. I think a zoom out of the camera could really help. Even leaving the lighting the same after that small camera change I think would be 🤌. But I can also see the claustrophobic feeling of the tight camera. Great stuff! Excited to see more and play at some point!
Fantastic video! It was so odd seeing like every inspiration for this game being games I'm also a fan of. This devlog inspires me to get out there and make another game too!
holy crap this is amazing!! super cool devlog and super cool game! deeplands has an uncanny resemblance to a procedurally-generated cave roguelike that I had worked on for 9 months last year! 8px sprites, limited color palettes, emphasis on darkness. in my own case though, it was focused a survival-exploration and base-building. anyways, I bring this up because deeplands is a type of game that I've been itching for!! instant wishlist :D
i think itd be cool if there was like a big worm enemy that would tunnel through blocks towards u, maybe like a boss of some sorts or something but i think a big worm pursuing u through blocks while youre trying to escape would be cool. also this is sick af
Watching this devlog felt like drinking a refreshing beverage... Everything from the editing or the video to the design of the game and it's music was fantastic. Super motivating for me as a fellow dev as well. I can't wait for more of these!
Love it, had an idea exactly like this for a game. I'm both really happy to see this, because it's exactly what I wanted to make, but also disappointed because I didn't make it lol. Keep it up, I'm looking forward to playing it!
Amazing work! And thank you for not ignoring sound and music design until the end of development lmao. I am so curious to see how this continues to progress. have all ur algorithm helpers! If you keep this up the channel will explode im sure
Very nice devlog! Wishlisted and can't wait to play it :) I'm starting my own adventure with godot and gaming development after years of being an sysadmin. Such devlogs are really helping me out to get a grip on what it actually going on behind while creating games. Thanks so much for this! :) I would really like to see devlog about enemy AI :)
Nice devlog! The game looks great. Nice, chunky art style and sound design. Cool palette shader. Definitely a good point about the time investment needed for different art styles. I'm close to tackling audio in my own project, and would be very interested in a video on FMOD and Godot! Subscribed!
Great work on the game and video! I would love to see more details on how you built out the modular enemy AI and specific behaviors as well as how you dealt with pathfinding for a destructable platformer!
This is actually one of the best devlogs ive seen in months. Good luck on the game!
seriously
Agreed, wishlisted
Agreed!
The sound design is glorious!
The dynamic reverb is so sick. Well done!
This was absolutely a huge highlight for me, too
This is a prime example of building on your knowledge base over years, youll eventually get to a point where you can have an idea and just make that game
Absolutely loved the animations and the sound design is perfect
thank you!! love your videos!
Spelunky -> Deep Rock Galactic -> Rain World -> Outer Wilds -> FEZ -> Tunic is an insane run of influences. If this game truly takes elements from all of these games then I HAVE to get it!!!
Wow the sound design is sooooo good!!! Sub
30secs in and already wanted to wishlist, this game seems absolutely amazing so far good job!
If you like the idea of this DEFINITELY check out Noita
What a beautifully edited devlog... Love all the iconography throughout. Excited to see more!
I'm digging the low pixel count on your sprites

this is already in the game :P
4:52 RAIN WORLD MENTIONED!
Instant wishlist. I’d love for you to talk about optimization and procedural animation in the future!!!
oh my im glad I clicked on this video, I havent seen a good devlog in a while but this is insane, the visuals, how you explain things, the SOUND DESIGN are all insanely high quality. I can see you put a lot effort into this, also absolutley love everything about the game.
Clicked because of the art in the thumbnail, those creative limitations are working 👌

i like the claustrophobic feeling, it makes sense, being authentic to what caving is like :)

As FMOD teacher myself, I approve!
awesome sounds and art polish!
The first ten seconds of the video made me think of noita and terraria. Two of my favorite games. This one’s going straight to the wishlist ❤
The dynamic reverb effect is so cool
Such a fantastic devlog :) I would LOVE to see your implementation for the audio with middleware!!
I feel like audio design/implementation especially is one of the least resourced aspects of indie game development and you have some great application of that here. Would really love to see more :) thanks for all the info in this vid!
I saw your game on steam a while ago and wishlisted it instantly, love the minimalist art style
crazy how good this looks with 8x8 tiles
damn. this is awesome! i was already fully committed and then you showed your sounds & music and my jaw just dropped! i don't know if i am more excited for the game or the soundtrack for it^^
keep it up!
DUDE! The audio design is sooOO GOOD JESUS! Keep it up 👀
Yup, I’m obsessed with this. Never thought a 2d cave explorer could look this good and fun :)
Dude, this is brilliant. I am a bit biased because you were inspired by a lot of my favorite games, and rolled them into one. So excited to see where this goes!L

@@MothraFan61im actually reading that atm :P
@@stasysmusial Awesome!! It’s a fantastic dive into a million aspects of game design, great read 😄
game looks sick! and very nice devlog! subbed!
This will be a day one purchase for me.
This is awesome! Subbed and wishlisted ❤
thanks man!! huge fan of your work ❤
STASYS BRO!!! WHAT A VIDEO!! This is so well done man!!
Everything you did with the sound and music is actually so awesome, can't wait to see where this goes :)
Very fluid explanations & presentation! I especially enjoyed the sound focus near the end of the video -- Excited for the game's release :)
I'd love to see you talk about FMOD. dynamic music is the thing in game development I've been the most interested in
se ve muy chulo, mucho ánimo!!
A cave generation explanation would be very interesting!
OUTER WILDS MENTIONED ::OOOOOO
I love this so much! Will be watching its progress like a hawk.
Gotta get this guy a few hundred hours in Noita.

Well done. I love how the lighting looks with your shader. Also, having more echo in a larger part of the cave is one of the coolest ideas
Exceptionally well done sound design. I hope you make a video going into more detail about it
Awesome devlog and game! Further than that, great video! The flow of information kept me hooked the entire time, and I loved the music throughout the entire thing :) I can't wait to see where this series goes!
the sound is sooo satisfying

Gotta agree with everyone here, the sound design is phenomenal. And the game was already looking great on its own!
Great devlog mate! Good luck with your project
That music sounds like subnauticas, the graphics look great, and it looks fun and satisfying, I'm exited
This one of the best dev logs I seen all year. The game already looks great, can’t wait to see more
AGGGHHHH THIS IS SO GOOOOOD i will definitely be buying this
the little step sounds omgggg so cute
Subbed and wishlisted :)
This looks incredible! It’s amazing how much progress you made in only three weeks! Easily one of the best devlogs I’ve ever seen!
i’m in love with the look of you game! +1 wishlist
Spelunkey + noita. Cool 😎 👍
this is genuinely amazing please keep at it
Thanks RUclips for finally showing me some top tier devlog on the homepage, great job and wishlisted!
This is brilliant - a really well thought out game seems to be emerging!
Great job. Very insightful devlog. Love seeing the passion lead to a great project.

WOW. amazing Devlog. It would be cool to see programming and tech techniques you use to make your systems

ohh i love that!! everybody keeps suggesting worms xd
i'm hooked. Amazing devlog!
This looks great, can't wait for the release
Damn, just a few seconds and I already love this game! Color palete is amazing. Surely gonna buy it.
Absolutely amazing! I will definitely pick this one up! Good Luck on the continued development!
PS: thank you for thinking about us linux users
This genuinely looks awesome, and like exactly the sort of game that I love! Wishlisted!
Definitely hyped, its exactly the type game i like, down to the vibe of how things look.
Nice Devlog, subbed and wishlisted! I love myself some crunchy low fidelity pixel art. The audio also seems to be really well implemented.

I am so curious to see how this continues to progress. have all ur algorithm helpers! If you keep this up the channel will explode im sure
very cool video. i actually am working on a somewhat similare mining / cave exploration rougue like in Godot too :D
Noita / spelunky vibes in a really good way. Love it lol
I thought it was a Pico8 game ! Huge props on the sound design it brings so much to the game. Good luck !
pico 8 art was a big inspiration for this. there is so many shader wizards that make the craziest stuff with this little engine
@ Definitely felt your inspiration and can’t agree more on that about Pico8 !
great devlog and the game and sounds look and sound amazing! how long did it take to make this devlog? subscribed and wishlisted!
Would love to see a tutorial on how you made your light shader!! What a cool concept, happily wish listed

I would really like to see devlog about enemy AI :)
Really cool! Incredibile game so far!
I really hope that those secrets and ruins evolve into something "deeper", like lore or whatnot.
This is amazing! Good luck on finishing this beauty
Went to wishlist it and saw I already had! Gonna keep a closer eye on it now though, it looks really awesome.
Also I love the explosion animation!
