Biggest one you missed is the one I think more people need to be aware of, if you have an iPad or MacOS, you can also share calls and texts from your iPhone to those devices directly. Meaning you can view and respond to text messages (along with iMessage), make and take calls on those devices as well. For messaging, you can go to Settings, Messages, then has “text message forwarding” to the devices you would like to be able to get and send texts from. For calls, under Settings, Phone, then “wifi calling” and “Calls on other devices” both on. This was a game changer for me since I could respond using my iPads keyboard and easier to review messages.
For MacOS, being able to respond to messages or phone calls, can help keep you from distractions and keep focusing on what you are doing instead of the social media notifications you might be getting on your phone.
iPhone Mirroring is a workaround for anyone who’d rather use their Mac with Apple’s Journal app. Apple’s ecosystem is one of if not THE killer feature of their products.
What about Focus mode across devices? I use this all the time. Also: iPhone Widgets on Mac iOS/iPadOS apps on Mac - I have a couple of games and a weather app running on my Mac.
IPhone mirroring is very smart. However I really don't get the point. I run my system with icloud and all my phone notifications come to my iMac. What am I missing???
🐬 My M4 Pro Mac Mini is scheduled for delivery in two days and I can’t wait! I’ve been using an iPad Pro as my only personal computer for the last 5 years. While it worked fine for me in most cases, when I would run into something that I needed Mac OS for and also just not having that much control in the OS overall has gotten very old. I can’t wait to have Mac OS again!
As a long time user of both platforms and currently on samsung i agree with the features and really enjoy all of the ecosystem perks. I compiled my own list with benefits having a samsung phone, tablet, headset watch, tv and regular windows PC and can conclude you can get 90% the way there in regards to features as smooth and continous as apple and i found 15 more which make the Samsung side more flexible while giving nothing up except of course imessage and facetime. This was definitely not the case only 2 years ago so apple needs to keep up the speed if they want to stay ahead :) otherwise great video and great work :)
Great video.. also kinda missed out on mentioning AirPods connectivity with Apple TV with spatial stereo.. and the easy drag and drop using iPhone mirroring, FaceTime calls and messages directly from Mac🐬
On the issue of“copy & paste” if you’re plugged into the same WiFi isn’t the item already on all the devices anyway? I don’t own a Mac laptop just an iPad. Not to minimize the latter as it wasn’t cheap
I was always the classic anti apple guy. Now I have the whole lineup. All my subscriptions outside RUclips premium and Netflix fit in Apple. Cloud storage, office, fitness tracking, calendar scheduling, everything has an answer with apple's internal offerings. Having the connections to the phone, tablet, and laptop that acts as my main computer has just been great. It really makes office productivity so easy.
Great video, Fernando! It should be noted that AirDrop doesn't use the Wi-Fi network, but instead is own Wi-Fi protocol called AWDL (Apple Wireless Direct Link). So you can use AirDrop with two devices connected to separate Wi-Fi networks (or no Wi-Fi at all) as long as Bluetooth is enabled on both (devices). And this may also explain why sometines AirDrop doesn't work as it should. 🐬
The ecosystem is great - the only feature that bugs me is the screenshot sharing. It comes up on your iPad to annotate, but won't let you save it on the iPad! Yes you can airdrop/copy & paste it across, but it's already there! Just add a save locally to the markup screen.
I can't get this feature to work -- I have my ipad on the same wifi, handoff and continuity all enabled, but I don't get the same UX of it auto opening on my iPad?
He specifically said it’s for people / devices that DON’T have Touch ID like the Mac mini which comes without any keyboard or mouse so you could just buy a cheaper non Touch ID keyboard and use your Apple Watch for authentication
The idea of using your ipad as a secondary display that you can draw on to annotate screenshots and images is a neat idea. However if the laptop just let you draw directly on it, it would be a non issue, lol. --- I really like videos like this, and people who try really hard to make the iPad useful. As an artist, I'm basically forced into using the iPad, which is fine. I like the tool, but I hate how I lose out on all the laptop functionality too. I really, really wish the two were the same, and I could save the weight when travel. And honestly, the weight isn't isnt even the problem, it's the whole having to sort everything through security all the time. One device would make it way easier
Iphone mirroring currently have terrible accessibility for blind voiceover users to the point of making it practically unusable. Same thing with universal control mac-ipad I think.
On the AirPods Pro on multiple devices. I’ve often struggled with taking teams calls on my iPad if my AirPods are on. I have to drop off the call, remove the AirPods, rejoin the call, then put the AirPods on 💀 Also noticed when they sync from iPad to iPhone, the mic doesn’t move so no one can hear you on the iPhone
While I like some of the ideas that the EU has, it needs to stay out of the business of tech products and services. I think it’s a companies choice to offer those things to competitors or not to do that. I mean what next? Should car manufacturers make sure their parts will fit on and work with their competitor’s vehicles? Maybe Android and iOS should get rid of their own software platforms and create just one unified OS to rule them all. 🤷♂️
It's not the garden that's the problem, it's the walls. I generally don't support government overreach, but in the case of authoritarianism, whether corporate or otherwise, it's best to be as free as possible. Especially for the ipad, lack of proper side loading is one of the major setbacks which thanks to the EU is being challenged
That’s incorrect. They don’t want it to be illegal. They want people to have the choice to have exit doors to the walled garden if they want to use them. But you can and always will be able to continue to use the walled garden features if you want to. FYI, i own every apple product imaginable and i love the interoperability of them and use almost every feature in this video, but I do occasionally want the choice to install apps of my choosing to iOS/macos devices.
isn't "walled garden" suppose to be negative? ironic that having all these stuff work so well together is seen as a negative by some people, would they rather a disjointed, fragmented, difunctional headache in the name of "openness" and yes, these are mostly mutually exclusive as evident by google's and apple's approach.
the Apple ecosystem is truly game-changing, where its value get exponentially better the more differentiated devices you get. having an m1 MacBook Air, iPhone 15 Pro, Apple Watch s7, iPad Air 4, and AirPods 2, i have access to almost all the ecosystem features. with the Apple Watch unlocking, it works on both iPhone and MacBook, and even able to be reverse unlocked from authenticating on your iPhone. however it isnt as always reliable. if you have a sleep focus mode on then it wont work, and sometimes its hit or miss. Ive known about the authenticating from Watch for mac for a long time, but i could never get it to work, until now. authenticating from Watch also provides haptic feedback which physically confirms the unlock, useful with iPhones where faceid doesnt work
sorry but the iphone mirroring is a pointless thing since you have to have the phone basically next to you. I was hoping that it would have just worked on the same network then least you could leave the phone in another room and mirror it.
@@MattOz well when I tried it I left it in the bedroom and then in the office I tried to connect to it and it just said failed to connect make sure its closer. 7:08 🐬 The magic is real but just not private. Apple users still don’t have p2peer natively built into Files app and iOS for peer mesh networking backup, archiving and syncing among our personal devices without needing to use iCloud as “the man in the middle.” A user may have iPhone, iPad and Mac and their family or friends probably have the same amount of devices but that can’t sync among themselves in 2024 on a private peer mesh network??? Really? Users have been requesting none “iCloud “ sync forever by email and feedback app to get truly personal private secure syncing archiving and backup 😢 Tech journalists and tech y tubers are just going along with this instead of calling Apple out. I guess they don’t be delisted from Apple events and inner circles of other tech horny fan fans.
Samsung has a better exosystem. All these features have equivalents + integration with ANY Windows PC + Integration of Samsung Appliances (like getting a message on all Samsung Devices that your Samsung smart oven has finished cooking, using Samsung Bespoke Fridge with AI Family Hub screen to do stuff you could on your other devices (like making memes on Reddit and saying u made on Samsung Smart Fridge lol), or listening to Spotify / answering phone calls on Samsung Bespoke Washer Dryer Combo.)

Glad your Apple Watch opens your Mac 100% of the time because it certainly doesn’t for me.
Mine is not 100% either.
It works for me every time too. However, can’t say the same for Touch ID on the Magic Keyboard,it fails most of the time for me.Touch ID sucks.
Mine works perfectly every time. Even when I just walk by my laptop and I’m not stopping to do any work on the laptop.
Same, very frustrating.

There’s the answer to those wanting MacOS on their iPad Pros - buy a MacBook. 🙂
For real, iPad Pro would not be fun with macOS. Of course iPadOS could use some improvement.
