    You Miss the ‘Toko’ a mix between traditional Dutch-Indonesian food. ‘Pasteitje’ ‘Risolles’ en ‘Lemper’ there is a lot in the Netherlands also on the Albert Cuyp.

    @13:50 perhaps even more quintessentially dutch than fries with mayonnaise are fries with satay sauce or a mix like ‘patatje oorlog’. And they’re less boring.

      I would also recommend a stall that sells fries with real mayonnaise instead of "met" which is fries sauce. Fries sauce is often referred to as mayonnaise while it is not even close to it. It's almost entirely made with water where mayonnaise is at least 70% oil. It tastes delicious with fries. Also interesting is the Flemish mayonaise which is sour.

    For tourists the following advice. Beware of old herring and some of those exaggerated prices you can see in this video. Back to the herring, if the seller does not ask if you want onions, chances are he is trying to hide the smell of old herring. Always ask how fresh the herring is and have the onions on the side and never on the fish.

    Love poffertjes. I disagree they're small pancakes since they've a different taste and texture then pancakes. By the way, try the market in the Jordaan on Saturday. Better price for the snacks😉.
    Oh, another to try if you like fish: shrimp kroket 😋.

    • @jonbedet
      @jonbedet Год назад +1

      I agree. Poffertjes have a few different ingredients in the batter that Dutch pancakes don't have (probably American pancakes as well):
      - Buckweat flour
      - Yeast
      - Keukenstroop (a dark Dutch syrup that is a leftover product from sugar production)
      - Molten butter
      50% of the flour is regular wheat flour and the other half is buckwheat.

Koning (Eerste van der Helststraat, where they are not grabbing the fish by their bare hands!!!),! Best fries "Bob's Vlaamse Frituur". There are only two venders of "Poffertjes" and on this one i totally agree!

      Fermented food can still be raw. Classic 'Hollandse nieuwe' isn't fermented though, it's ripened for a few days but absolutely not fermented. Same for 'maatjesharing'. Salty herring or the jarred stuff is indeed fermented.

      not completely true. yes it is salted as well
