It was demonetized because RUclips deemed their content as misinformation and hate speech. There's an episode where they briefly mention that. Anyway I see the regular comment thread has been overtaken by Bots. I wonder who owns the channel and if they notice the trend? I see this exact same conversation by a team of people on so many videos now. It's definitely some type of virus. And if you read it it seems like people are all responding and mentioning the numbers and talking about whatsapp. But it's all spam, all of it.
It's so weird that this content is so unbelievably good and then gets attacked by Bots after they get demonetized because of their content. I think RUclips is pretty messed up.

I am a 61 year old woman of color. I was born in and lived in Southern CA for 56 years. I grew up in one of the poorer sections of Los Angeles and never lived more than 30 miles from where I grew up. Nevertheless, after high school, I got a good job, graduated from local universities debt-free, and earned a good income over the years as I progressed in my field. What should have been the CA dream was something far different. High taxes, ridiculous housing costs, failing infrastructure, high cost of living, escalating crime, unbelievable traffic congestion, high gas prices, failing public schools, decreasing essential services, rolling blackouts, over development, and other short-sighted political decisions made CA living, particularly in the metropolitan areas, far from desirable.
I didn’t see improvement on the horizon, and certainly not as I aged, so it was time to go. When I retired in 2017, despite having no one here (I am the last known living member in my family’s line) or knowing a soul, I picked up and moved to TX where things are far more affordable and seemingly better run despite the more recent political developments. During a lengthy visit to CA in 2021, things had only become worse with the demands resulting from increased social challenges.
The image of CA as the golden state no longer seems applicable. To regain its luster, CA must bring the political pendulum back toward the center if there is to be any hope for long-term improvement.
A successful path to improvement will have to start with a re-examination of those who sit on local government city councils, county supervisory boards, and those who sit in the governor’s chair and in the state’s legislature.
Sadly, what made CA the great golden state has now been tarnished…hopefully, just not irreparably.
Thank you for presenting this reasonably balanced assessment of my home state’s true condition.

The other thing that is killing California is that they devalued trade jobs in comparison to tech. Victor has talked about this before but I think is very important. Electricians, plumbers, carpenters landscapers, welders etc are viewed as only necessary burdens to pay in construction. Extremely competitive bidding an an influx of migrant work keeps wages down. The tech people are willing to throw billions at utopian ideals but want to pay the absolute bare minimum for skilled labor. Those of us who get our hands dirty for a living are looked down on as second class citizens.

Sad but true. The odd thing is we tradesmen do valuable things, necessary things. Very often the people that treat us like "useless eaters", to use one of their phrases, actually ARE useless eaters. They offer nothing of value to society. Gavin Newsom being a prime example. He brings nothing of value to society, he is a dead weight bearing on the rest of us.

You're not wrong. In the case of techies from India for example, they are used to paying a much lower working class to do everything for them for dirt cheap. It's a cultural thing, and I wouldn't vilify them for it. They ultimately learn that quality doesn't come cheap, and the good news is that they learn quickly. Keep all techies in the loop about the process and you'd be surprised at how they're willing (and relieved) to pay for quality work. They love details, and soon realize quality work is cheaper in the long run. IOW, it's basically a sales job.

As a lifelong Californian, I’ve always said we never needed a high speed trail! For what?!? I’ve also always said we need more reservoirs and better water management and more nuclear smaller plants!!!! Here we are years later, and we still don’t have a high speed train and what is it needed for since everyone works from home and don’t need to go to poo-poo show SF!! We are in a constant drought and may need to deal with lower amounts from the Colorado (though we got a brief reprieve from all the storms this past winter). And now we only have one nuclear plant even though it’s one of the cleanest forms of energy production. But we let the lives of fish, turtles, and birds and endless environmental impact studies, environmentalists, and lawyers (i.e. the FEW) run the lives of MANY!!!! As always, I’ll get plenty of thumbs down, but like I always say, you can’t drink, bathe and water crops with trains and trains won’t keep keep you warm and the food cooked!!!! BTY I lived next store to Rent Control (where the Landlord looked the other way as most were Sublet), And Section 8 who were able body people in their 40's, bragged about 'playing the system' and would have a yard sale to supplement their income every month. Also, because they were born in Mexico they explained that they were privy to playing the system more so than someone who was born in this country. And they really knew how to play it.
I personally witnessed how the incredible State imploded over the years and really had No choice but to leave..as many others have. As difficult as it was to leave, I now look back at it as a blessing and thank God I got out in time.

As a faculty member in a private teaching university here in Los Angeles, I can attest to Victor Hanson's statements (40:41) about college students who are not prepared. I am constantly forced to water down the material, at the expense of students who are prepared to learn and ready to be challenged, so that the majority of the students won't fail the courses. Even after doing that I still have to further curve the grades at the end of the semester so that only a few students won’t get a passing grade. The students would complain to the Dean of the college and the department chair about how the tests are too difficult even when the tests are from the homework assignments that I have spent hours going over in class. The dean and chair always blame the faculty members who insist on upholding the higher academic standard for not being a caring teacher. A case in point is what the dean of my college said about a student's complaint: "The students complained that you don't respect them. You own it, do something about it, otherwise your department would be considered a less desirable one for the students."

      I think they will be.
They stick together more than natural born citizens do.
For one, they have lots of family and babies. I spent the past few months getting to know the Mexican workers and they're great! They accepted me into their community, even though I am not Mexican and don't speak Spanish. Many of them were born here, but don't speak English. Some of these non-English speaking citizens have grandkids. They were raised in Mexico and have houses there, though they also have residences in California, closer to work. They bought land decades ago and go back and forth between Mexico and California.
They support eachother. Some of them take orders, go home and make food, then bring it the next day for lunch. The food is home made, very tasty and not expensive. They keep the money within their own community and usually their own family.
You know those guys you see at intersections, with bags of oranges? In my experience, those are organic oranges that grew in one of their back yards. They are wax and pesticide free, which means they won't last as long on your counter but they are really good! Same with the lemons and limes. Green limes are unripe and sour, the way we seem to like them, but if you get yellow limes, they are less bitter, but still taste like limes.
Once the war touches down, most Mexicans in California are going to be just fine. They have community.

The metropolitan counties are experiencing significant population loss since even before COVID. California has a larger portion of transplants than most, if not all, states. These people, like myself, have no family to tie us to the state. We can leave at our discretion. And many of us are. Many retired men in the state of California and in many other states are looking at going overseas just to be able to maintain the middle class lifestyle that they are used to . Many say it has to do with rampant feminism but in reality it is economics that is pushing this growing trend . I personally see people who retired 10 years before me living like trolls and just existing and not living. Many are disabled and because of the system they were forced to spend their retirement savings just to survive before their disability was approved. Inflation is pushing more and more of these disabled people into the streets as they make to much to qualify for government programs and don't make enough to keep up with rampant inflation. The COLA increases aren't keeping up with rampant inflation so you either pay for your medications or starve. Commercial rental properties are allowed to raise rents 10% every year whether they do any improvements beyond normal maintenance or not and this pushes up property values which pushes up property taxes . It's all about the money and the people who are in effect our employees are screwing us . Wake up California.

Mr. Hanson said something I always said myself...if you see things going wrong in your country or state that includes everyone who leaves their own country should stay and save it. You may helped to damage your place of origin, stay , or you take your mindset somewhere else and the damage continues. And so it grows like a cancer.. slowly but surely. The powerful who mean harm always protect themselves.

I don't think I've seen Victor quite so glum before, possibly the 'clean up for visitors, not for citizens' was one slap in the face too many for us residents.

I truly wondered why there were so many potholes throughout Los Angeles County neighborhoods or was it a way to create some sort of job security. Thanks for both of your Clarities...

The cost of living in California is not going to come down until the voting habits change. The government is one of over taxation and regulatory abuses that cause the cost of living to be ridiculous

I grew up and worked in California, bought a small Homestead cabin out near Joshua Tree on 2.5 acres for 10K in 2001. Was a part-timer, now live here. It's gotten crazy out here with airbnb's but I'm still in my little slice of paradise dems can't take from me.

Me and my sister grew up in the San Fernando Valley in the 50s, 60s, and 70s. My sister moved to Japan in the 1980s. She’s still there and I visited her several years ago. Japan has a great train system that takes you where ever you want to go. Personally, I think California, and the U.S. in general, are far behind in the development of a decent rail system. Do you enjoy being stuck in gridlock traffic? I don’t. Let’s send 100s of billions of dollars of aid to Ukraine and the Middle East. Let’s spend a trillion dollars plus on wars in Iraq and Afghanistan. That’s some serious money. I think our priorities are al screwed up. Greed and corruption are rampant. Something needs to change…

I grew up in Kalifornia in the1970s, in Torrance. What a gift that was! Then i joined the Navy and left, didn't come back until the late 80's. It had gone way downhill then, and by the last time I returned in the early 90's it was a shithole. You couldn't horsewhip me back. I think the best thing for Kalifornia is to join Miississippi at the bottom of the list of successful states. I would move to MS before KA.

Wow! My heart goes out to Victor! His explanations of why California is broken says it all. I know the feeling. I lost Chicago during the R.J. Daley years. To grow up in a place that had thrived and watching it die is painful...., but I also live in Reno Nevada and watched the California Follies. Be faithful Victor, as a 72 year old Southern Illinoisan today, we both know what's right. I love California too. I've been there 3 times - seeing everywhere but San Francisco and Diego. Great state it was and still can be. One day in the future when brother D.J. swings into Chicago, we'll start winning the people over. Thank you Victor and host, this was another of so many VDH interviews I've been blessed to witness.
