Anyone else remember that time that Elon Musk challenged the WHO to prove $6 billion dollars would solve world hunger and he would give it to them, and then a WFH scientist posted a proposal that would do exactly that, and he outright refused to give the money? And then he sold $6b of Tesla stock and donated it to his own private charity? Because I remember that.

It is because he didn't come up with it, or dumber they didn't walk him through it so he could come to the same conclusion and there for take full credit for it. I'm not saying that's how we should treat him, lord knows I'd love to read his ironic obituary some day but it is clear he only does things to make himself look 'cool' not because it would be cool to end world hunger, but because HE 'fixed' world hunger cause he's that kind of genius*.

Medical scientist here. During the height if the pandemic Elon claimed that testing was obviously ineffective because he had two tests done and one was positive and one was negative so they don't work, right?
He had them swab him twice. He was swabbed in both nostrils once, then he decided to conduct his little experiment and had another swab done immediately following the first one.
THERE ISN'T ENOUGH LEFT FOR THE SECOND SWAB BECAUSE IT'S ALL ON THE FIRST ONE, ELON. THAT'S WHY WE RECOMMEND 72 HOURS BEFORE A REPEAT TEST TO AVOID THIS EXACT THING. THIS IS BASIC SPECIMEN COLLECTION PROTOCOL.

PSA - Take a shower or place your face over a bowl of warm water before taking your COVID test. I took one when the weather was very dry and it ended up showing negative (due to not actually getting a proper sample). It was fortunate that I still felt bad after my morning shower and decided to try a second time.

Carl Sagan had a good illustration of this - I believe it was in Demon Haunted World. (I may get some details wrong here, this is from memory). It was basically the idea that, imagine you're in charge of the British empire in a pre-radio world, and you decide you wanted a faster way of communicating across the empire. You tell all your best scientists and engineers that they can have all the money in the world to come up with as fast of a communication method as possible. If you did that, there's no guarantee they would actually come up with the radio. But because some nerd named Maxwell had the freedom to study properties of magnets, he was able to discover things about the electromagnetic spectrum that opened the door to telecommunications as we know it. It's not likely that anyone with the sole goal of "make faster communication" would have thought "I should play around with magnets".

⚠️ warning for talk about outdated ASD diagnosis techniques ⚠️
The thing that gets me every time Autism Spectrum Disorder (ADS) gets brought up in discussions that also involve talking about naz!s... is that nobody brings up how naz!s have always been obsessed with ASD. Prior to 2013 ASD was still divided into separate disorders that would literally rank individuals into tiers that could label people as "low functioning".
Naz!s have historically referred to people placed in the highest tier (formally known as Asperger Syndrome) as "the next stage of human evolution" and trafficked individuals in that tier so they could be studied by naz!s (not just German naz!s).
And out of all the naz! stuff that got thrown out, the research done on individuals with ASD was upheld in academics.
This included common practices like attempting to diagnose young nonverbal children with Autism by pouring water over their face and not stopping unless they successfully "cried", with the logic being that they were testing the child or infant's inability to perform social cues to avoid being harmed... by medical professionals in a medical setting doing medical tests that the autistic individual was intentionally not given any instructions about before starting.
I personally know of one individual who was subjugated to this as a child in America around 2009, but I know in my heart and as an academic that this method must have been rigorously trialed in the past and would definitely "work" on some adults with ASD.
That shit is straight up naz! style academics.

I don't think I'm the best gamer in the world, but having a ton of free time and a very limited budget means I really have to make the absolute most of the games I own (usually by 100% completing them). My abusive grandmother did this to me once. I was a kid, substantially behind in my development as a result of abuse, and thus didn't get it at the time, so it turned into a mess, but it was essentialy the same thing: assert some preposterously obvious untruth, wait for those you rule over to agree with you despite knowing you're wrong, then bask in the feelings of power while enjoying the sadistic pleasure of rubbing the horror of your victims' hopeless reality in their faces. And if they don't cooperate, punish them and repeat until their dumb asses figure out the way things work in your presence. She acted like a creationist all of a sudden after never showing any sign of disagreeing with the theory of evolution. I was a 7th grader who had just learned about the basics of genes and trait transferrence across generations in school and had come home to excitedly tell my family about the facinating things I'd learned. Anyway, I didn't understand it was a power play and the point was for me to demonstrate my submission and it disolved into both of my parents having to helicopter in and divert both I and my grandmother in different directions.
He's not trying to avoid seeming like a fake or idiot or liar, he want's to seem like any or all of these but still have people worship and adore him no matter what he does or how badly he fails. I don't think it was intended as a Nazi salute. It doesn't line up with Trumpism' rhetoric as most of them still label their enemies as Nazi's. They're acting like Nazi's but they strongly deny that fact and insist that, in fact, it's the left that's being Nazi's. Intentionally giving a Nazi salute would undermine their own narrative. No, it's far more likely he was making an impromptu heart-goes-out gesture that he really, really should have thought through more. As for why it doesn't match the previous heart-goes-out gesture? Well, in the clip we see of it, he has the gesture printed on his shirt, which shows that that gesture was very much NOT impromtu, and was likely tied to whatever the event he was at was. The aggressive grunts and iffy vibes are just like, excited Musk stuff. He's still a fascist, but focusing on this faux pa is just giving Trumpers ammunition to back up their narrative that the left is delusional. We've got plenty of other, more compelling ways to show he and Trump are fascist dictator wannabe's, so we shouldn't be focusing on the one that makes us look petty. It's counterproductive.

If you try to be really serious and respectfull : throwing carefull doubts about his claims, about some of his accomplishments, about his intents, his fails promises, you will sound mature and reasonnable while actually being abnormally generous regarding the topic, you'll have to lie. It's rarely done but the fair way to talk about Musk is as a silly moronic and hatefull racist baby bigot, throwing tantrum, with unwarranted god complex, self agrandizing dreams, possibly pathological systematic lying mindset, as a transparent buffoon whose main quality is being too big and too rich to fail, profiting on an economical system rigged to protect parasite like him. It sound really extreme and as a personnal grievance but it's really a fair description of what his public behaviors and decisions are. He's close to Trump in that regard, they are both so extremely unfit and incompetent to wathever they do that it's sound awkward to pointing it out honestly.

Having actually trained Judo along with a few other things, the idea of "full contact" Judo is hilarious. All strikes and kicks are strictly forbidden in Judo to the point that even if you strike someone by mistake you're automatically disqualified. So what would full contact mean; that you don't hold back when throwing someone?
But it's like everything Musk; he desperately tries to appear not only to know a bit about things, but to appear an expert. And sometimes he knows enough of the language to make it sound like he knows what he's talking about to people who are clueless, but every time he talks about or does something you actually know a bit about, it becomes painfully obvious he's clueless. And the thing is, I don't get how he believes he will get away with it. He must know people will immediately spot that he doesn't know the first thing about coding when he posts about it. He must know people will immediately realize he hasn't actually played p2e when watching him bumble about as a total "noob" on a character he supposedly have been playing 20 hours a day for weeks.
It goes on and on for everything, it's like he desperately wants to be as accomplished as his wealth suggests he would be in a world that was actually built on meritocracy, but he isn't and this world isn't that world. In this world he's a pretty mediocre guy who has generational wealth and has had some really fortunate things happening to him, along with an ability to spot these advantageous opportunities.

It's a twofold issue. Yes, they want more labor, but they are also perfectly happy to import that labor. One of the bigger issues is that children "politically castrate," the working class. You're less likely to take to the streets for days, or even weeks on end if there are children waiting for you to feed them at home. A largely child free populace is a populace that can one day say "fuck it, I've got nothing to lose," when it comes to fighting power. Parents can't. They have a responsibility to the little ones.
