- In this video I explain the history of Taiji Mantis Kung Fu, and explain the meaning of the name, which relates to the theory of Yin and Yang in both movement and strategy, and is what gives our style its characteristic coiling and twisting movements.

Hi ! Just tried to 'grab a T-shirt' but the PayPal link throws an error and tells me to 'contact merchant', can't see any other payment options? Thanks! Steve
Oh ok, was it from the merch shelf or my website?
@@MonkeyStealsPeach Thanks for the reply! Couldn't find the Merch link from the Patreon link so was trying to use the merch page on your website? Thanks!
@@TheDweedleTum it should be working again now. There is also the merch from youtube directly
@@MonkeyStealsPeach great, thanks! Order placed :-)
Chinese martial arts has so much science inside. I love it. Practicing chen taiji I love watching your mantis videos. And thanks for the reminder to watch your documentary on shaolin 🙏
Thank you for the video I've learned to use the word receptive instead of the word passive in describing the energy of yin
Awesome video! I’m glad you have gotten back to the Mantis lessons.
Excellent explanation of the "taiji" principle and history!
Thank you, will! Great video as always. I especially appreciate the explanation of the style’s name and how the Taiji concept is incorporated into its 拳理.
I like the way that your style lets the shoulder go forward whiich is how it is done in boxing. Karate for some reason doesn't want the shoulder or hip to move forward but so much.
Man your living the dream....i wish i could be with you on your travels in real life when I was younger. Much harder for me to do what your doing since i hae kids and all.
Good video I like your work been listening and watching to your channel a while now .seen some more than once. Even 3 times lol
Very interesting..... Would Love To Learn More.
Wong long was apparently the founder of mantis in general ... it's like music. Branch's .
it is very good introduction to Taijing Mantis. Can you a short video explaining the theories eight hard and 12 soft method, especially 12 soft method. There are different interpretation of 12 soft methods. Hopefully you can clarify them to help others practionner.
Thank you for the video Will! GOD Bless and stay safe!
I love this style , your lucky to have found that master !
your master is great!!!
love your new sun wukong intro XD seems like the concept of taiji is pretty applicable to virtually any art.
just realised most chinese martial arts are fairly recent... wonder why martial arts became popular in the late Qing.
but yeah, taiji mantis, really cool style, would love to have another lesson sometime after I get everything sorted haha
I agree you can apply taichi theories and training to any other martial art. It will fill in any holes you could find in your practice through the internal awareness it brings. Once I learned taichi all the hard martial arts I beat my body up with before suddenly made so much more sense.
Good information here, thank you for sharing!
Very well explained. I love your content. Highly informative. 👍
Thanks so much!
very good! i went to china 12 times i saw several forms of tanglang specially qi ji tang lang, my brother trained with Lin Dongzhu (Nephew of GM° Lin Jingshan, your videos are great!!!!!, go on my friend! now i trai with lai han liang the beishaolin and the baksinchoilifat in canton i trained with moy yat, ip man disciple, and hung gar i trained with jerry lee from lam sai wing. go on with your logo!!!!!!

Awesome! :D
Thanks mate
The old man in black is magnificent
It's done the old man very good for health n fighting disease.
yo! If you ever get the opportunity you should interview wang huai hsiang!
Thanks mate. Is a southern mantis form related? Appears very different in some ways.
Southern mantis is totally unrelated. It’s just a coincidence it shares the same name
Thank you. I am very interested in learning more. I will be exploring the rest of your channel. Are you aware of any teachers in the Boston, MA, US area?
Sorry, I don’t
@@MonkeyStealsPeach Thanks. I appreciate you explanation in the video. This practice is a physical expression of principles that apply to all aspects of life. ...principles I am very interested in incorporating into my life. I intend to learn it.
I read a bit of your bio on your site and look forward to spending more reading the rest of your content.
If you have a contact page, you will probably hear from me with thoughts and questions.
Best, Chad
Maybe mantis came originally by the insectoids ... does tai chi mantis have the other elements such as iron palm n body condition.???.
I studied Northern tai chi mantis for 30 yrs. This is interesting but a little different than the history I was told. Just curious how did you find all this information? I am curious to read more about it thanks
Hi. I've been living in China training it in Shandong province for the past decade.
The Taiji Mantis you practice I'm assuming is from Chu Chuk Kai, via Hong Kong or Vietnam... which is quite different from the Taiji Mantis practiced in Shandong.
My information comes from my own teacher, other teachers I have visited, and various manuscripts and written records which date from mid-19th to early 20th centuries. I have translated a few bits and pieces on my website which you can find in the video description, but its a bit disjointed and hasn't been updated in a while
My master is korean. Our lineage is under master lim poom jang/lin ping Jiang
@@Tm-pb2tp ah ok, so it should be through Ji Chun Ting which is a similar lineage to me in that case.
My style resembles yours but is a little slower (possibly due to the korean influence). Thanks for responding and awesome videos!
Is there a way to connect/email with you via your website? I would like to discuss in more detail if you are interested. I didn't see an option to send you a message on there. Thanks!
Is this related to Wah Lum Tam Tui? It was started by Lee Kwan Shan and is still being lead by his youngest student Pui Chan
Is this correct? I know there are other Praying Mantis styles, just trying to parse the Taiji/Meihua Praying Mantis styles:
Taiji Praying Mantis
Meihua Praying Mantis
Taiji Meihua Praying Mantis
Hao Family Taiji Meihua Praying Mantis
Looking for corrections or criticisms here.
Pretty much, but I wouldn’t really think of them as different styles, rather just different lineages within one style
Very interesting. Love the way you move too. Though I could recognize almost every technique , given my current practice in QiXing lineage, I see the way you move your body is quite different.
👍
Where is your school located at. Love the history. I like to hear more.
My teacher is in Yantai, China and I am currently in Perth, Australia. I will be making more Mantis videos in the coming weeks
@@MonkeyStealsPeach
My teacher is under Si Jo Lee Kwan Shan. When you went through the lineage it opened my eyes. I'm from Tampa,Florida
@MantisMan was at Wah-Lum. No more.
@MantisMan the hao family style correct. I did see you do luan Jie. It is different from mine
@MantisMan what is your teacher's name if you dont mind.
Very interesting! I know two more Babu Tang Lang and Chang quan Tang Lang but they are very rare. Even Liu He Tang Lang as a main branch is rare in the west. Its almost only Qi Xing and Mei Hua Tang Lang in the west.
Yep, and those two you mentioned are offshoots of Meihua. In fact Chang Quan Tang Lang is just Meihua Tang Lang but when Gao Dao Sheng got to Taiwan someone else had registered a school under that name so he renamed his
@@MonkeyStealsPeach Yes Gao Dao Sheng I have seen some nice videos of him teaching good practical applications.
Yep, a friend of mine is a direct student of his and I’m hoping to go visit them in Taiwan sometime
