I cite my sources and they may differ than other people's accounts, so I don't guarantee the actual accuracy of my videos.
Metal band Megadeth throughout their career have had over half a dozen drummers during their nearly forty year run. Nearly half of the group’s drummers would pass away under sad and in some cases shocking circumstances and that’s what we’re going to explore in today’s video.
In 2023 it was announced that Lee Rauch, Megadeth’s original drummer would pass away at the age of 58 years old. The death would be announced by his brother Chris writing "Today is a very sad day, we lost my brother William Lee Rauch (rotch) ."Lee was a very strong man of faith so I know he is with God now. He was an Awesome drummer, who helped launch one of the biggest metal names in history by being the first drummer for MEGADETH, playing along side Dave Mustaine, Kerry King and David Ellifson. His heart was set on making it big and came very close numerous time. "Lee was a very loving and giving individual who was extremely hard working, he continued to play drums later in his life for the church which made him happy. He was a loving son and a very honorable man. Most of all, he was my brother and though I didn't always keep in touch the way I should have, I loved him very much and he will be greatly missed to my core.
Mustaine would be asked about Lee telling an interviewer in 2004 with Bob Nabaldian
"I don't know. He wasn't necessarily an original [MEGADETH] drummer. He was a guy that we really liked, and then one day sitting on the steps of Billy Cordero's house, when David Ellefson and I were squatting...we just kind of met this kid, went to his house and filtrated his bedroom and never left for a couple months. Leewas telling us how he had given his soul to Satan, and I know enough about black magic that if you really do the actual act of giving your soul to Satan…' I was like...'I'm out of here!'"
It was originally reported that Rauch (rotch) would appear on the group’s first demo, 1984's "Last Rites", which was made up of three songs. Due to internal conflict Rauch left the band and was replaced by Gar Samuelson. After leaving the group he performed with DARK ANGEL and WARGOD. But following his death, David Ellefson would take to social meida to clarify a long held belief about Rauch writing "However, there is some misinformation about the 'Last Rites' demo. Lee never did any studio recordings with the band. The 'Last Rites' demo that is out there on the web was recorded 100% by his successor, our other fallen brother, Gar Samuelson on drums. That three song demo was recorded as a three piece with me, Dave & Gar in summer of 1984. Our then-manager Jay Jones brought Gar into the fold shortly after Lee departed the group in April, 1984 as he funded the making of that demo during several late night sessions at Hitman Studios in Hollywood. We continued to perform as a three-piece I
New York Jazz Loving drummer Gar Samuelson would be asked to join Megadeth in 1984 and guitarist Chris Poland would be added to the lineup. Band leader dave mustaine would refer to this lineup as the first real lineup of the band. Mustaine would credit Samuelson as giving Megadeth a sound no other metal band could replicate telling Brave Words
Gar Samuelson being a jazz drummer gave our playing a super, super cool element that none of the other metal bands had. It was great to be able to hold that over everybody else’s head because no one else could figure out what we were doing. We had energy, starts and stops, and so many gear shifts -- and that’s all attributed to the jazz element, which gave the music all these crazy dynamics that you would never get in a normal rock band’s drum track. It just wouldn’t sound the same."
But internal problems led to his time being cut short in the band only playing on the band’s first two studio albums and touring on both record Видеоклипы
Favourite Megadeth drummer?
Dirk is made for Dave Mustaine. Nick and Gar are monsters too.... hard question
Gar then Nick
Gar easily.
@@bendup52 did you see his video on drummeo with Mr. Brightside.
Nick!!!!
For all you Gar Samuelson fans - I was fortunate enough to write a couple of promotional pieces (band bio, etc.) on his post-Megadeth project Fatal Opera, which involved spending a day hanging out at his house and watching the band rehearse.
This was circa early 1992. He was reasonably healthy, said he had given up hard drugs and the only substance I saw him use at the time was weed. He still had monster chops. I deliberately refrained from asking about his time in Megadeth, apart from a couple of questions aimed at establishing his importance to the development of thrash metal - in the band bio I stated (with his blessing) that he taught Megadeth to swing rhythmically and that he had convinced Mustaine that focusing his lyrics on social and political commentary was the way to go.
The two things I want to emphasize here are that in my interactions with him… 1. Gar was down-to-earth and easy-going, and 2. He was very responsible and professional, returning my phone calls, providing feedback on drafts of the stuff I wrote, and paying me promptly as per our agreement.
That Gar was one of the most talented and creative drummers to ever play heavy rock should go without saying. I can only think of a handful of musicians I’d be more proud to have worked for, brief as our association was.
Rest In Power, big guy - you were a true master of your craft.
Wow, awesome, Gar is and has always been in my top 5 fav drummers, that's cool u met him, I never saw Megadeth/Gar era 1984-86
I missed out on seeing Gar and Chris live, too. I started listening to Megadeth in ‘86 and immediately thought the whole group was freakin’ amazing, but didn’t see Megadeth live until 1990.
Maybe one day Dave Mustaine will see fit to release an official live album from the Poland/Samuelson era. I hope so.
@@reprintranch I wish he would but sadly I think we only going to get live stuff on special edition/extended albums, I saw Megadeth 8 times starting in 1991, Slayer 10 times starting in 1991 but wish I saw them all in 1980s
" in the band bio I stated (with his blessing) that he taught Megadeth to swing rhythmically and that he had convinced Mustaine that focusing his lyrics on social and political commentary was the way to go."
THIS... I dont think enough people mention this, I understood this without even reading this comment, I knew that Gar was the best musician when he came into Megadeth and taught the band what to do, and he had the biggest contribution out of ANY MEGADETH MEMBER IN HISTORY
@@reprintranch on the 25th anniversary release of peace sells there is a 1987 setlist. if you look up megadeth live phantasy theatre 1987 youll find the show
Nick Menza's drumming 🥁 on "Skin o' My Teeth" & "Sweating Bullets" reign Supreme in the Megadeth catalog!
Nah peace sells but who's buying has the best drumming
Spinal Tap has drummer problems as well.
Thanks for pointing that out. I’ll have to look into doing spinal tap video
you beat me to it.
@acecourage1487 You win! 🤣
"Five of them died mysteriously, one spontaneously combusted!" 🤣🤣🤣✊🏽✊🏽✊🏽🤟🏼
@acecourage1487maybe so but it’s a giant problem 😁😅
You left out Dijon Caruthers! Son of actor Ben Caruthers, brother of Untouchables guitarist Caine Caruthers, & inspiration for the song "Good Mourning/Black Friday." HE was Megadeth's original drummer, & an amazing human being. He & I were close friends through most of the 90s, into the 2000s. Hopefully, he's still alive & that's why you didn't mention him! He DID battle cancer, but won! Hope he's still out there somewhere & doing well! ❤️✌🏼
Yes, although you left out the second 'R' in the name: Dijon Carruthers.
Fought cancer and won...
What a badass.
@@risenfromyoutubesashesagai6302cancer winners are just badass in general
Nobody cares 🤷
All the drummers in MEGADETH, Gar, Chuck, Nick rest in peace guys! Jim Greszczuk
Chuck Behler is not dead...
Chuck died??
GAR WILL ALWAYS BE THE BEST
You should do a video about the dead members of MINISTRY. It'd probably be like 2 hours long.
That would be cool. Ministry is so shit now when ever Al decides hey the retirement is over for the 4th time. new album.. Last good album imo is probably Animositisomina, along with the cover albums. Hes also totally been swept up by ideological means lacking logic.
I did do a video on ministry a while back but i need to do more they have been heavily requested
It's refreshing to see the next generation of metal fans take such interest in this era of metal. 🎸
Gar is my fav as far as the music goes.
Nick Menza is a top 5 metal drummers ever. Miss you Nick.
Still sucks the Rust in Peace lineup never reunited.
Great video.
Gar pawned Chris Poland?!
@@thetvbaby83 and got a nickle back!
If only Dave had named the band Megalyfe . . .
Personally... all the megadeth drummer were top notch.
But, Gars Samuelson style for the first two record was another level....
His isolated drum tracks you can find on YT are insane.
It's heartbreaking how Poland breaks talking about his bro.
Also its still BS how Dave fucked over Ellefson, Dude was proved in the clear but that didnt stop Dave from succumbing to cancel culture. Seemed like a ploy to remove him for the new line up. Which is technical but still meh to me.
Seemed like he got dropped faster than a hot potato
@@rnrtruestoriesOr a hot sausage.
I think Mustaine had a problem with getting sued by Junior. This just made it easier to fire him.
"But that was in, like, 2005..."
How long has Mustaine wailed about being fired from Metallica?
So sad when drummers explode.
Grateful Dead always seemed to have piano/keyboard players.
Gar was awesome on the first two albums. Nick was amazing as well on his albums.
However all musicians are replaceable, as has been proven by Megadeth and numerous other bands.
Well thats a pretty ignorant statement.
i can think of so many musicians that are not replaceable 😂
Megadeth can never replace dave mustaine
Nick , he’s drumming on Rust AMAZING 🤘🤘🤘🦾🦾🦾🦾🦾🦾🦾
Well they can’t prove whose vomit it was…they don’t have the ability…there’s no way of…
You can’t really dust for vomit.
Nick Menza was my favorite :(
💀💭
I get it, but, I hate that the first thought is a drug overdose, when a musician passes away😢
Yeah the media always does that
So you think Angry "Again," means the first time he's was angry about Gar dying?.....or Cliff???🤔
Brett Frederickson also passed away a few years ago.
Yay 100!
Do you still do news on gnr central, it sounds like a different guy or a bot reading the news, is there a reason for this
Its hardly a band. Dave is the only member and he continuously fires musicians at the drop of a hat. Every year its a whole new line up.
And you still bitches And moans that he got fire from metallica😂
I dont know what really happened to Nick's life, but you'd think a guy as good as him would have been in another major band after being fired from Megadeth... but somehow he wasnt in anything notable since then. The only time people heard another news about him was when he's almost rejoined in 2004 and in 2014.
Many people forgot he actually drummed on all Marty's 90s solo albums.
"He was talking about giving his soul to the devil and i was like, im outta here" -the guy that literally put a hex on one of his friends 🤣
Yeah, well, how many have spontaneously combusted during a performance?
I’ll wait……
Waiting for WASP
Spinal Tap!
👍👍
FUN FACT I'M A DRUMMER TERRIBLE FACT DRUMMER'S DON'T LIVE PAST 50 SCARY AF... RIP TO ALL THE BADD ASS DRUMMER'S WE HAVE LOST
Ringo will outlast you all. Muwahahahahahahahahaha.
@@Saint_nobody suck it
While Nick Menza is a legend keep in that Dave Mustaine lost a package deal with Vinnie Paul and Dimebag Darrell after inviting Dimebag at the time Diamond to be in his band
I've read this 4 times and it leaves me with the same question every time , Do What ?
@@user-vw9ei6vv8kInvite Dimebag Darrell to be in Megadeth. I don't know the story well but, if I remember correctly, Dimebag would only agree if Vinnie also entered Megadeth and Mustaine rejected the deal.
Did any of the drummers die by swallowing someone else's vomit?
Wouldn't know. You can't dust for vomit.
on 1.5 x speed, this narrator sounds totally normal
You left out a lot.....
Educate me. Go do your own video
Let these guys R.I.P. hater.
The fact that Nick menza is dead and Lars is still alive is proof that there is no god.
Nope. It proves God has a twisted sense of humor.
God doesn't care about rock n roll. That's Satan's stronghold. His mission is to save souls.
Both drummers was addicted of drugs, bands name MEGADETH means MEGAdeath, many bands like a Spinal tap and many others singing songs witch includes text "Hell" "death" and like thatkind, remember....GOD hates SIN, 😮
I gotta ask you, are you serious or is this a thinly veiled troll?
Just asking because I’m curious.
Well, thats true that God hates sin . This is a damnation world, we see lots of death, drugs, war, illness, and the songs texts.....death, Hell, and like that....theres no bless, because God hates sinful songs, i think, we have a religion freedom🥢im A Christian, drummer, The Bible says that all what is on Satan like "drug addickt""all damnation world", goes eternal delete "firelake", 🥢but we have a Religion freedom, and we. Have mercy of Jesus, If just set welcome to Lord JesusChrist, only he can save🙏
God I wish Dirk would quit this trainwreck of a band.
