Drum Smoker Build Pt. 3 : Heat Testing The Drums

In this video we do a Heat Comparison of the Drum Smokers. I set the Drums up exactly the same. The same amount of Charcoal is placed inside each one, along with Restrictor/Diffusers and Water Bowls. The Coals are lit, the Dampers are set and the test begins. Which one runs hotter?

Interesting test. Do you think the newer drum is not as well seasoned yet as the original and may not seal as well?

Alright, that's a good observation. I didn't think about my original being more tight because of the seasoning. That definitely could be part of the equation. Thanks for watching.

How much do those drums cost? Where are they available?
Could use a variety of sizes of copper tubing (¼", ⅓", ½", 5/8", 3/4" and 1") to set the damper opening; just slide it in and close the damoer down on the tubing.

Drums are available if you look around. I get mine from an old timer who sells them out of his back yard for ten- fifteen bucks. Good idea on the tubing , I'm doing something similar now. I took some bolts I had laying around and cut the threads off leaving the shank. I now have every size I need👍

Taller chimney = more draft = more heat?

Yeah ,I agree. Plus the bigger holes in the restricter allowing that heat to draft thru. Thanks for watching.
