After we managed to get sale on the store that took them in as bulk cause time limit was coming up cause cops only let us access so late time and guns were lost that time, hence need to sell them fast, we went to get them.. cops handed them out cocked, no barrel discipline to mention and spare magazines of .22 pistol and L39 were magically lost while in police custody. Top of that they went "hey theres suppressors in this box, we dont know whos it is, but you guys can have it if you want" Well it was ours, but wtf? And this was before lost magazine thing. Yeah, kinda lost all limited trust to cops i had... Turns out they tell family members of the diseased that theys guns are worthless so they give them up to government, that puts them on auction.. ,but on desired items, cops put up 50€ bid for couple K guns, never put it out to auction floor and then afterwards essentially steal it, same with stealing parts like optics, magazines and suppressors etc from guns in their custody to give or sell to their buddies. There was a gun buyback in my area a few years ago, with the guns later going to auction, to fund more gun buybacks. The insanity of it nearly put me on the floor.
In that case, I'd support it. Like the showed, a lot of people at these buybacks are either sheeples or fudds getting rid of stuff they didn't want anymore and then it gets sold to people who want them. I don't see a problem there.
As a Brit looking in from across the pond, this seems to be similar to the old car scrappage scheme that run here in the early 00s to 'save the environment' by getting old bangers off the road... all they achieved was destroying lots of decent 2nd hand cars and classics. People running old bangers and dodgy cars weren't interested and couldn't afford to trade their heaps in for expensive new cars!
In the states we had it as well. It was called "Cash for Clunkers". A total farce of a program. To rub salt in the wound, the salvage yards that got these perfectly viable cars had to destroy them, so the salvage parts didn't end up being sold to keep other "clunkers" working. They poured a silicate compound in the engines and ran them full throttle until they seized and had to destroy other parts similarly. Same things there, tons of beautiful old cars and what would be high dollar cars on the private market got crushed and cut apart so the owner could get 1500 bucks off a new car.

After 4 months no idea where the guns even went. after hours of calling located, but they spew bullshit that relatives were unknown, even though they have all the registers and took our details. Got the confiscation paper work and call from cops claiming those were useless trash that no body wanted and same with ammo... except after looking into L39 pistol was alone 900€, if original barrel 2K€, combination gun 12gauge+.222 with different barrel that is like 500€ and stock repair would been 3K€, just as cherries on top of the small collection of work guns and there was full box of 54R and shotgun premium hunting ammo.

We had stuff like that too in the US it's truly sad when we cast pearls before swine

Obama did that here. All the scrap materials (high quality US Steel) were sold to Chyna
Ah, yes. Obama's "Cash for Clunkers" boondoggle. Another wholesale waste of taxpayer funds.
