Things to note in regards to this video: ★ Yes that's Windows XP. It's a virtual machine as using XP in the modern day is risky given security issues. I thought it'd be fun to use the WinVer UTAU was essentially introduced on! It's an undisputed fact that XP is the most aesthetically pleasing version of Windows to exist. ★ If you don't change your system locale(SL), it becomes super difficult to use Japanese voicebanks(VBs), which is really what UTAU was made for. This is because UTAU is not unicode; the program will produce garbled characters (文字化け[mojibake]). It's almost impossible to use Hiragana encoded JPN VBs at that point. ★ Changing the SL on Windows XP & onward is pretty much the same, but for Windows 10 and onward users, you would go to Settings>Time & Language>Language, & then select "Administrative language settings." It'll bring up the same window as the one in the video. Navigate to the "Administrative" tab & change the SL to Japanese & then restart your computer! ★ I forgot to add a note at the part where I drag UTAU-Synth onto my Mac desktop. The folder inside the DMG will redirect it to your Applications folder. I was using it on my own Mac rather than a VM so I didn't drag it into my Apps folder.
Thank you for mentioning not installing UTAU PC to the Programs folder! That caused me a lot of problems cuz it wouldn't save my configurations & recordings & I lost so much work! I keep mine in the Downloads folder now! Also, great start & I can't wait for more of the series! >W

hey I’m having trouble finding the folders listed in the video as being better to download uatu into, this is causing me to have issues with the japanese text showing up (it’s gibberish no matter what I do) has anyone run into similar issues and knows what to do? it also doesn’t play any sound

Does anyone know how to edit the sound of notes in UTAU-Synth for macOS? I'm able to place down notes and it makes sound but when I put lyrics in the lyrics thing, it doesn't change the actual sound.
There are a few things it could be. Are you using the default voicebank? And are you typing Japanese characters or roman characters? The default voicebank is hiragana only.
The patch in the description should remove that. If issues persist, UTAU-Synth is very finicky. Otherwise OpenUTAU is an incredible alternative and is available on Mac.
ok, so i downloaded it, and everything was going smooth. until after i put in the registration code, i pasted it in, and then clicked on try. but then it gave me an error message saying utau-synth quit unexpectedly, does anybody know how to fix this? or is it just me having this issue? overall, amazing tutorial!
Unfortunately, Utau-Synth is completely borked on macOS Monterey and up. I'd recommend using OpenUtau! It didn't have a macOS port when I did this video, but it does now, and it's pretty straight forward!

so i downloaded it but when i play the notes there is no audio but my computer is on full volume, i also tried changing the voice but the text was all jumbled lol- edit: i also changed the language thing with the pinned comment (i have windows 10) and the hiragana types as "????"
old software on modern computers tend to do that. there is usually a way to force it to download though. i'm not too well versed with computers enough to tell you how, though.
I have an M1 Mac running OS Big Sur and can run UTAU-Synth just fine. If you're talking about UTAU PC, it can run through programs like Parallels or Crossover but those do cost money. Viable free alternatives for emulating Windows programs are limited to intel Macs.

no.sadly its not secure on the new day windows. utau doesnt work in the new day windows,but vocaloid does. i think so.

I think MacOS Monterey makes UTAU-Synth broken. I'd recommend using OpenUtau! It's also much easier to use

there is a thing in japanese with the number 30. click on it and it will give you a 30 day registration code
