Another thing about waiting for inspiration is, that if you only do something every once in a long while, then when inspiration hits, you'll lack the skill and experience to pull it off the way you envision it.
I feel like I just went to an exhibition where the artist stood next to its work explaining the creative process. Very cool, this is creativity. Keep it up man
I just happened to have looked at this album on your website the other day and liked it but didn’t really understand it... absolutely amazing to hear an explanation of how it developed and what you are trying to do, thank you
Valid points. Color of “inspiration” is like the color of “truth” - grey. Subconsciously or not, IMO, we constantly draw from our environment and experience when shaping style and images.
For me personally, I find one of the biggest things that can hamper my creativity is when I start to evaluate my work or others too much from a technical standpoint. I get that proper exposure, the light, and composition are important but I find it too easy to lose sight of the fact that it's the content or feel of the shot that should matter the most. To be honest, sometimes the first thing I see in a shot is what I think is wrong with it instead of the content. I wonder if starting a project to intentionally break the "rules" can be a good thing for someone who wants to bring back some creativity or emotional connection to their photography?
I could not agree more! It's about vision, not technical aptitude. I think projects that break rules or ignore conventions are great, indeed! This exactly what the project in this video is about. I deliberately went all out on the editing, knowing full well that the end result will not be realistic. But by doing so I opened up avenues that would be forever closed to me otherwise. :)
Glad to see you using the D4 again. I just got one. Keep these videos coming. What you just imparted is possibly the most important lesson in photography.
Fantastic video, ive been struggling with motivation and inspiration recently and this was much needed! Will watch the "Wisdom" documentary by Andrew Zuckerman now. Thank you!!
oh, thank you) funny that you mentioned music - for me photography became sort of a way to rest from trying to produce music, to distance myself from music, which I still consider my main thing. But photography is so much simpler, maybe even more pure, and it requires me to get out there and look for interesting little things.
Woah, that background with the billboard, so cool! At first I thought it’s a digital marquee. Anyhow, on the subject matter, I find that taking breaks is beneficial, sometimes for months. It allows coming back with a new perspective, which often more than makes up for the lack of practice during that time.
Taking breaks is also good!! I find I take breaks from particular subjects, but not from photography itself. So, I might not shoot these kind of photos for months, then one day decide to go back to them. But in the meantime I'll be shooting something else.
Thank you so much! I am from Poland and move to Chicago when I was 5 years old, and grew upt there. I've been living Tokyo since 2008. So, whatever accent that results in, lol :)
The photos look very Cyberpunk. Very nice! And the quote is correct. Think of a wedding photographer= he has to create beautiful photos every time he goes out. Doesn't matter if he's inspired or not, he has to make memorable photos for some little bridezilla's special day. ..Joe
Just wanna say that the day you followed me on instagram was the day a thought "Hey, I think I might kinda be doing something right here". And I really like what you're doing with this pictures.
Learn, make, share, repeat ... I guess this is a way to find what you like to capture, the same during the editing process, to discover things who may work with what you shot. There's a video of Sean Tucker i really like, which i find does echo to what you've been saying : ruclips.net/video/ZJGZxzH_ZpU/видео.html The video is more about "labels" but relate to "Inspiration" too
I haven't watch the video yet, but I can already guess where he's going about labels. I hate labels and though I use them in conversation for the sake of simplicity, I don't label myself as anything beyond an artist. I create art, and that's it. :)
Just watched it. Totally agree. In fact, recently I've been posting a lot of these Vaporized Memories on my IG and although the response has been very positive I did have a few people telling me to go to posting my more typical urban shots (which I am planning to do anyway). But I told them politely that this is how I'm choosing to be creative and social media cannot dictate my art to me. :)
@@EYExplore I've seen them on your IG and love the mood of them. What you say didn't surprise me. I feel alike peoples love boxes on IG, if they follow someone for their street photography, they expect to only see street photography on that account, it not about what the photographer have took as pictures but all about the content. It's kinda alike you need to have an IG account for all the different type of pictures you can do. But as you said, at the end, this is your art, your IG and you're free to share whatever you like

This is also true!

Thank you so much for this cool perspective on the video! I hadn't thought of it that way! :)
Vaporwave and chillwave are like Tokyo nightlife nostalgia in music form. An excellent way to get motivated.
Totally!! :)

Glad to hear that the video turned out to be a nice supplement!! :)
This was very much inspirational/motivational. Thank you, Lukasz !
So glad to hear it!! :)

Yes, this is a good way to look at it!
👍Super love every video you made. You talk in simple words that break all the myths in other photo channels. Thxxx👍
I'm glad to hear you're enjoying it! :)
Great video !!
QC: three favorite movies (or any number)
QC: Favorite books or writer.
Awesome!! Thank you for the questions! :)

Glad to hear that!! I hope you enjoy it!
Very interesting video, thank you Lucasz!
Thank you so much for watching!! :)
It somehow gives me that feeling the anime evangelion gives me too. I really like that unice style
Thank you! It's a kind of odd retro feeling and I get what you mean about NGE! :)
Wonderful and timely. Thank you for these reminders and encouragements.
Thanks for watching!! :)
That’s a great project. I enjoyed this video of ideas and finding inspiration through getting to
know yourself. Thanks Lukasz
Thank you so much for watching!! :)

I think this is also a great point: to be a practitioner of a number of art forms. Things relate in interesting ways when you explore them deeply.
Protect Lukaz at all costs. The Obi Won of photography
Haha! :)
The force is strong with this one.
That project looks so cool.
Thank you very much! :)
Thank you for this video!

Love how you’re always experimenting. Great episode! Trying to place your accent - Montreal?

Great video. Agree with it all. Even religious will tell you your spiritual life requires spiritual work.

Yeah, that is also a great way to put it. Photography is a craft. An artisan just shows up and gets to work! :)
Great video. Much food for thought. Would like to learn your editing process for the silhouette shots.
Perhaps I'll do a video on it someday, but I'm a bit ashamed at home simplistic it really is. :)

Love this
Thank you so much!! :)
thank you sensei luka
Thanks for watching!! :)
Heard vapor wave

Haha, nice! Thanks! :)
nice as always
Thank you!! :)
wise words..
Glad you found it useful! :)
Lukaz, Any chance of you going back to Poland for photo missions? I’m planning on going there for a month next year.
Well, I've been a back a few times in the last couple years, but no plans in the immediate future.
do you ever cone down to Okinawa?
I went to Okinawa in 2018 but haven't been back. Though last November I did go to Amami, which is not far away from Okinawa. :)
I came here for the Ricoh GR
Most of what I say applies to all photography, including with the Ricoh GR. :)
A question:
Which of your photos do you like most?
Tough question! I'll add it to the list. :)
