      inside the home?? Or, just around the yard/property?? Livestock dog's do GREAT as outside property guardians and don't need the CONSTANT attention.. they'll sleep most the day anyway & stay up at night guarding. As far as housedog, I've always had pitbulls myself.. as long as they get the attention/exercise/training they need, they'll have 0 issue hanging out around the house the rest of the time.

      I think it depends a lot on the individual dog but lower energy dogs tend to do better. America Bulldogs, English Mastiffs. Aksaray Malaklis do well from my experience. Cane Corsos are awful.

    • @mikefrost5481
      @mikefrost5481 2 года назад +5

      @@JebediahThePaladin not necessarily.. I prefer dog's that can be more independent myself because I work during the day & need them to be confident , comfortable & content until I'm home.. working breeds just wanna work ! If I'm not home, the dog's are the security team & keep people and other critters/predators away from the property & livestock.

    I am glad to see the German Shepherd made the list and even made it to number 2. They really are good protection dogs. I like the concept of an audience-generated list. It really gets the community involved and is a very democratic process. Plus, if anyone is upset that their breed did not make the list, that criticism cannot be accurately directed at you. lol

    Firstly its great to have this list back and hope many more come through as I always enjoy them but dont always agree with them 😊.. With regards to the Boerboel they are great protection dogs and here in East Africa many people keep Boerboels for home protection in the cities and they do well especially if there is a large yard and/or worked out daily.So they are great for the home as well as ranches - I would personally prefer them as number 6 over the BullMastiff. I was hoping the Dutch shepherd would be higher but I definitely agree with them needing a lot of attention - but amazing they are when working. The rest of the list I like and he finalists could be interchangeable. Great work as always and thanks for great content!! If you an do a list for home protection based on medium, large and X large dog breeds that could be a cool idea..

    We have the same likes in dogs. I prefer dogs that are not super high energy and are geared more towards personal protection for myself and my family in the home. You mentioned "livability" and for me that is extremely important. Some of these dogs on this list are great police dogs or military dogs but are too high energy or not truly geared towards human personal protection first and foremost. I love all the dogs, it's just that some of them are actually geared more towards other type of protection. ✌

      A working Rottweiler will be higher energy than the normal fat slob pet Rottweilers. Rottweilers already have a shorter working life. NOBODY is paying full price for a 4+ year old anymore. Too many early developing herders they can get at

    • @Acadian.FrenchFry
      @Acadian.FrenchFry 2 года назад +2

      @@jfkst1 That's not totally accurate. It depends on the level of protection a person wants. There are breeds that already are naturally protective and are easier to work with, but are not exactly high energy dogs that demand a lot of attention. the Rottweiler is a good example of that.

      Show me a random sample of PPDs that are "low energy" dogs. This is like when everyone claims their dog is a "service dog" bc there are zero standards on the requirement. No real PPD that has sufficient control and drive will be low energy.

    Here’s my list for top 5 for personal and home protection
    I have had all 5 breeds currently have the GSD and Doberman.
    1.Doberman
    2. Rottweiler
    3.GSD
    4.Cane Corso
    5. Giant Schnauzer or Malinois
    Malinois is more of a working dog it literally thrives on pleasing its owner and needs lots and lots of training. Also will need lots of your time. Otherwise they become destructive. Very misunderstood breed.
    Final thoughts the Doberman excels in personal protection.
    -Easy to train
    -Very Smart
    -Naturally have the protective instinct
    - Loyal
    - Fast
    Although I will say this just because you get a certain breed doesn’t necessarily mean it will be perfect for protection. Some dogs naturally have it others don’t.

    Glad but surprised the Beauceron made it. Mine’s being trained as a family protector and the maturing speed is incredibly slow. But a very powerful and intelligent dog, can’t wait to see her fully matured.
    I feel the US and UK level of working lines for the different breeds differ massively. Good Rottweilers, Dobermans and Corsos are very hard to come by in the UK, the Presas seem to be much better. But with the increasing popularity in protection sports will hopefully change that, unless the fur moms get their way.

      @E92M3 2 года назад

      The issue is most protection dogs have a lot of drive which is turn means you need to work them. For most people, they don't want to have something like a Doberman that requires 1 to 2 hours of walking every day + socializing constantly. Which basically leaves you with a larger build Mastiff breed like the Bullmastiff and Dogue De Bordeaux. You might get away with having a low energy Rottweiler.

It will sleep most of the time inside, and only burn off energy when appropriate. A beautiful sight to behold when a 100 pound dogo effortlessly glides through the woods. What I've also noticed is that my Dogo doesn't really need a play mate, he will literally play fetch with himself for hours and have a hecking good time.

    I would like to see you do a video on the same type of dog but American versus European examples. For instance I have two boxers that are right at 100 lb fit as can be lean. They came from Russia where the neck head and chest size are a good 30% or more larger. I know this to be the case of at least a few other breeds also.

    I would be interested to have your view on midle size dogs suitable for guarding and personal protection. That would be more suitable for those of us who are getting on a bit in age and may have some physical problems. In my mind are dogs like German Pinscher or Standard Schnausers, Sherpei etc.

    You can tell a lot of people voted just probably picked there favorite dog and if we’re talking protection. living with shouldn’t play a factor if there the best protection then they are regardless of how much time you gotta give them that’s what it cost to have a good protection dog
