I was exposed to Kangals as a kid. Even though they guard livestock well, they guard children too. But they are not pets, they need to work and need lots of territory.
@2centavos It's not recommended. You may get the odd case, but you'd have to walk them a lot and I heard off leash can be problematic because they almost have no recall.
@2centavos no you can't they need space, and you need to be very strong te walk a kangal trust me, I tried to walk one who weight 80kg,it was a mission impossible to strong
I got a 6 month old kangal from a rescue 2 and a half years ago. Before this, hadn't heard of the breed. Dont live on a farm, but have a large yard. Was a lot of work, but now he does awesome as a family dog. He gets exercise playing with my shep/pit mix in the yard and our nightly walks. They are independent, not people pleasers like my shep/pit mix. As long as you are willing to put the time and effort in, they can be great family dogs. I feel better knowing he's here to protect my family while I'm at work.
I have an Anatolian shepherd/Kangal. They’re fine as pets, if raised as a pet since puppyhood. Definitely no worse than a lot of other dogs on this list. They dig a lot and I wouldn’t get one as an inexperienced dog owner, but overall good family dogs that do fine in the burbs
My Doberman once saved me from a kidnapper Story: My granny, dog and I went to a shop. We left him sitting outside the shop. My granny went inside and so did I. I stayed in between the door playing with my dog. My granny went somewhere to the back of the shop. A man just picked me up from behind and started to walk away with me. My dog started to bark but he was tied to a pole. The man started to run as my dog started to alert people around us. He wiggled his way out of his chain collar. He ran and jumped up on the man and grabbed his arm. My granny ran out got me off the ground and got the dog. (this story is from half of my memory and the other half is from what my granny saw )
I love Newfies and Great Danes! And the sighthound breeds, they’re all beautiful and elegant. Though their prey drive and wanderlust makes them difficult.
Marshall 0k no he means a newer breed in development not yet recognized by the kennel clubs. You can google or RUclips search Donovan Pinscher for more info.
jaivaras Jackson Bro, what's a donavan pincher? My son is named Donavan and in celtic it means dark warrior. Doberman pinshers are one of my favorite dogs.
Dude i just got a Rottie at 8 weeks and now hes 6 months. Been watching your docs for a good while now and I honestly think they helped me pick the breed, so I just got so hyped to see Rotties topped your list. Couldn't agree more they are the number 1 dog that I've had because they are big and intimidating but can be gentle without hesitation when around smaller pups or kids. Keep making these great vids Sir!
milesalexander15 I’ve grown up with Rottweilers my whole life and you’ll love them. They’re so great with kids. Mine let my niece jump all over her and she didn’t ever get angry or growl, she loved the attention lol.
I agree with the Dutch Shepherd. I'd say they're one of the most versatile dogs out there. You can literally use them for everything. Not to mention that the rough haired version gives off some kind of curly wolf vibes. I think they look insanely cool.
St Bernard has my heart but I have had one who would do protection as well as snuggle. I raised a coulpe great Pyrs who were totally amazing. My female kept breaking the second floor window and sit and wait for me when I would go some where. Turns out she had chased a drugged up burgler thru the window. Shortly after that he was arrested for attempted murder after a long shoot out with swat. Currently #1 is my dog Rory a labradoodle. Super smart, athletic, protective, trustworthy and unconditional love never ending
1.)Doberman 2.)Dogo 3.)Cane Corso 4.)Boerboel 5.)Rottweiler 6.)Presa Canario 7.)Bull Mastiff 8.)Kangal 9.)Akita 10.)Giant Schnauzer Seem like you had my top 5 but backwards you have great taste lol !
Doberman number 1 for sure!!🔥🔥🔥 the most loyal dog I have ever owned from all the other breeds like: cane corso, Akita,German shepherd and a malinois. Doberman is my favorite 🙌
Solid list. Everyone will have different experiences that produce a different list. For me, number 1 will always be boxers. Absolute clowns when they aren’t in protection mode. Mine made me laugh everyday. Serious mode was very intense.. all business. When he died, I was determined to get another boxer. Plans don’t always work the way u want tho, and I couldn’t turn down rescuing a pit bull. I always said I’d never own a pit, but I had the breed all wrong. She has the sweetest temperament of any dog I’ve had personal experience with. Boxers still have my heart, but the pit is a VERY close second. Love your channel.
vwr32jeep definitely agree. Boxer has to be my number 1. I own one and in my opinion they are the best dog breed out there. Fits my lifestyle perfectly👌🏼 . Clown , fun , energetic yet protective when he has to be . He’s super protective of my daughter. They have the closest bond ever . They eat , play , sleep together what don’t they do together lol .
I have an American Pitbull Terrier/boxer mix currently and is hands down the best dog I have come across in person, Thus far. She is an absolute sweetheart and shows nothing but love. She cracks me up day in day out. She’s super goofy when in an relaxed environment lol. When our in public, She is very friendly but also remains alert to her surroundings.
Kangal's are terrific! I used to have coyote as well as black vulture problems (killing and eating my calves) kangal's stopped this problem. Extra benefit was they are also terrific with children!😁 My grandson is 3 now, grew up around my kangal. Best buddy's and kangal can be Very affectionate as well. Would not try to make this dog a house pet though! Mine needs to be in the wide open spaces. Stays on high alert to predictors or even burglars on the property. Just when you think he's asleep,,,,, he'll leap up and run like a madman because he sees a coyote prob. A mile away. Amazing breed🐕
Charles Marshall well all I can tell you is I have 2 and I don’t have a vote or buzzard problem anymore. I have seen mine go after those coyotes and snap their necks like they were a chicken neck. Mine go to work at dusk, partially sleep during day. These dogs are built for speed and strength. As long as they have livestock to protect. Mine are pretty lovable with me, some aren’t that I’ve seen. Don’t try to make them into a lapdog though, they need a job...
What I have read, watch videos, documentaries.. Kangals are amazing, one day when I can get enought space. Kangal, Ovcharka would be my number one choice dogs for home protection :) offcourse to protect my million akitas :D
How are kangals for like 2 acre spaces, to defend a chicken coop from coyotes, and to be a family pet at the same time? My friend is getting a dog, and my parents won’t let me have a big dog, so I am trying to help my friend out.
#1 Giant Schnauzer #2 Standard Schnauzer #3 German Shepherd I grew up with GSD'S. They're ABSOLUTELY easy to train. And like the schnauzer, guarding seems to come natural. The only reason I switched up is that Schnauzers dont shed. They as well are fantastic family dogs. Leary of people who they consider outside of their pack. I currently own a miniature schnauzer and he has all the same attributes as a Giant or standard. Hes fearless and relentless at guarding the home. I once had a homeless person say, what is that little dog going to do if I break in? I said, hes going to warn me that you're there. Then your going to meet my 12 gauge Mossberg. The look on this man's face changed drastically. Although I do feel that the mini schnauzer is the right dog for us currently, with my job the way it is..I do plan on getting a Standard Schnauzer in the near future.
In the last twenty years I’ve had 4 Catahoula. Really cool to see the breed get some love. Although I would disagree that they don’t make good home protection dogs. One of the reasons I fell in love with them. My truck, my house, my yard, and my wife are all so very safe. Having a well bred Catahoula is like carrying a loaded weapon.
Moved from 1 acre to 20 and after losing our American Bulldog to cancer, we eventually welcomed an Anatolian Shepherd to our family. Have owned and trained Rotties 20 yrs and love them, but in our current setting, our now 6 mos Anatolian pup has been excellent with early obedience and socialization & definitely coming into his natural guardian instincts while being gentle with our farm cat and our young child.
I fell in love with a breed that was developed in the 1990s - the King Shepherd - a combination of German Shepherd, Great Pyrenees and Alaskan Malamute. They are smart, easy to train, gentle, alert, protective, playful. Great with kids, love to swim and hike, and affectionate companions. They are headturners - every time we go out they get a lot of attention for their size and beauty. They DO need to be brushed a lot bc they shed a lot. A good grooming twice a year is helpful in keeping their big fur coats in check.
I looked into many of the breeds on your list before deciding on the Ridgeback. Just a few of the reasons, little to no shed, no drool , little to no bark. very strong , extremely loyal, very protective and if he needs to go into action you will never know it’s coming, very clean, no bad odor, very good looking, friendly you don’t have to worry about him hurting other dogs or people. Some of the breeds on your list most of us should not own and belong on a large ranch so they can work. Great video thanks.
My neighbors Doberman came through her glass door at a sprint when she was being attacked in her yard. The dog cut its self to shreds but that didn’t stop it from defending its owner. When we heard the commotion and ran out, the dog recognized us and that the threat was gone as the attacker retreated to his car (and was later caught at the hospital where he went to seek treatment for his multiple wounds) and was immediately calm and submissive allowing us to get the authorities and aid our neighbor. He saved her life without regard for his own. Great respect for the breed.
Giant Schnauzer, we are on our 4th Giant! They are wonderful guardians but very gentle with kids and get along well with other dogs if socialized! I have one female now who I have trained as my service dog. She weighs in at 89 lbs and is a very loving companion but would defend us and our home to the death if we were threatened. We are seniors so it is important to us to have a good watchdog. She makes a huge noise and she is black which is a deterrent in itself! She is very gentle with our grand kids and great grandkids. They love to please and are hard workers but very strong dogs so must have obedience training for older people because they are so strong.
I grew up with Rottweilers. Beautiful, beautiful dogs on so many levels. I'd love you to see you do a video on the standard poodle. I'm currently waiting for a litter to be born, which I'll be getting a pup from. This breed surprised me so much. They are so intelligent and majestic when they are allowed to reach their true potential, rather than be primped and preened and made to be pretty. I can't wait to welcome the new member of our family. I'm a mother of four kids, and this is our first pet. I'll also be working with the pup to eventually get her into therapy work, hopefully for the local children's hospital.
Virtually every dog guide I’ve seen on dog intelligence lists the Poodle as one of, or thee smartest dog breed. I don’t know anything about them but that has me curious. I’d be interested in a Dogumentary Tv feature on the Poodle.
Standard poodles are such amazing dogs. They are unbelievably intelligent and versatile. They are just great all around. I want another one very badly!
I love dobermans and want one when i have my own house out in the country! My family in mexico had 2 dobermans! 1 LAGE male and a female! But my sibblings were going to the store to get candy and these two HUGE pitbulls were barking and pulling on their chains, they both broke off and max came out of nowhere and took on these two pitbulls (until the owners came out and took them off him) he was hurt pretty badly lots of deep gashes but he got up and went home like nothing happened!! He got loads of loves and cuddles that day! I bawled and felt bad he got hurt but to this day it still warms my heart that he put his life on the like to protect us!
1. Alapaha Blue Blood Bulldog 2. Giant Schnauzer 3. Alabai Looking pretty comfy in front of the camera lol great video. Genuinely surprised at a few of these entries.
I'm with you on Dobies.. my daughter and I adopted a mix w/ un-docked tails and natural ears, and he was amazing most loving, most personality-filled dog I've ever had. Miss you Milo
Your a man I can respect; you like the large breeds like me. Your channel is great for any dog lover to get a good understanding of each dogs strengths and weaknesses.
We have two Catahoula Leopard dogs and both are very protective and territorial. They meet you once and you're good but strangers best not come around. Both are about 70 pounds and RIDICULOUSLY athletic. These dogs will run straight up a tree and they have no fear. They work and play harder than any dog I've ever had. I've had boxers, heelers, labs, etc. The Catahoula beats them all.
Im from Swaziland in Southern Africa and i had a Rhodasian ridgeback which was very protective of me when i grew up and it handled a spitting cobra for me so i'll make it my number one followed by the boerboel and i wish to have an encounter with a rottweiler
I own a young ridgeback (just turned 1 on the 29th of december) He's a lovely fun dog. Not only that but in the last few months he has taken on the role as sworn protector of me and my family and our property. They're born guard dogs. I think his finest hour so far has been when he stood up for me end of last month just before christmas. He spotted a drunk guy heading our way and began to tug back trying to keep me away. Eventually he got far too close for his liking and without making a sound stood in front of me putting himself in between me and the guy and just stared at him. He didnt move an inch and once the guy came over and petted him he relaxed. He didnt move however he held his ground and after that I feel even safer with him than I already did. I love my Cooper :)! You couldn't ask for a better large family dog.
my first ever dog was an American Staffordshire pitbull terrier and she was with me since I was born (actually she arrived just 1 day before I was born) and she was my best friend, she never bit me, she never growled, she never showed any aggressive behavior, she would let me get away with murder. so yea I think they are amazing dogs for families with young children, that's why they were so popular as family-friendly dogs in the 19th century. And no I am not saying that the pit bull attacks and deaths are fake but they are caused either because the dog is not trained, not socialized, not neutered, mentally ill or it is abused and that can happen to every single dog breed.
also right now I have an elderly cane Corso named baby because she really acts like one, she whines and throws tantrums when she doesn't get what she wants but overall she is playfully and a loving doggo
Working on a top list of my own...and sure enough...It looks like YOU can help me with that list. Informative and very interesting...So Glad I Subscribed!!!
Wonderful list! My top 3, I'd have to say: The Doberman, the Borzoi, and the Cane Corso. Could you please do some videos for the sighthound group? These guys need love too! haha
I like your list here's my list 10. Gampr 9. Jagdterrier 8. Thai Ridgeback 7. Malinois 6. Rottiwelier 5. Spanish Mastiff 4. Cane Corso 3. Presa Canary 2. APBT 1. Dogo Argentine Keep up the great work love the videos
I've been looking over my list I and has to reconsider 10. Alapaha Blue Bulldog 9. Thai Ridgeback 8. Malinois 7. Rottiwelier 6. Spanish Mastiff 5. Cane Corso 4. Boerboel 3. Presa Canary 2. APBT 1. Argentine Dogo This my final list really took the time to put this together
I met a Kangal on a farm open to the public. Heard he was only 1.5 years old and he already was standing over 3 ft tall. This kangal was friendly to every stranger and toddler he met. Truly a gentle and remarkable dog.
Catahoula Leopard Dogs are one of the most underrated breeds ever!!! I think it’s due in part to their isolation in their home state of Louisiana for centuries - they are Louisiana’s state dog. So glad to see them began to get the recognition they deserve!!!! By the way, another thing that sets them apart from many breeds is that they can climb trees!!!
Love so many breeds and have owned a fair few. If i had to pick one it would definitely be the Rhodesian Ridgeback. Once you've owned one, you'll never want to be without one. Truly amazing dogs.
After a Rhodesian Ridgeback, anything else is just a dog. Incredibly intelligent and fearless. Quiet by nature, when they bark, they have a good reason. Fast, strong, loving and predictable, they are the absolute best
My dad's female black lab is always aware of any strangers outside of the gates, but whoever we let inside is welcomed like if she knew them her whole life lol
My Grandmother had a beautiful Doberman (Robin) in her final years. She lived alone after my Granfather passed. Robin was sweet as she could be, gentle, and very loyal to Gram... My Grandparents, being old school Maine dairy farmers really had a way with animals.
Zeke, I'm new to your channel. I was looking for information on protection breeds, and found you :). I LOVE your "dogumentaries". I'm a dog lover, grew up with a Saint Bernard, so anything smaller is awkward for me. After watching your amazing videos, I am still considering a German Shepherd as my breed of choice. HOWEVER, you have very solid points about the Rottweiler, which is a close second for me. I didn't know anything about the Cane Corso or the Dogo Argentino until I watched your videos about them. I think you are doing a great work, keeping people informed about these important breeds. Might help some people think before they go out and buy a dog they can't handle. Fingers crossed. Peace!
He likes the breed, but it just isn’t among his absolute favorites. They aren’t aesthetically pleasing to him as they look like wolves due to their head structure. He likes powerful, robust breads with massive heads which is why he leans more towards the mastiffs. Additionally, German Shepherds have very thick coats, which he dislikes and sheds a ton!
My fave breed is the Labrador Retriever. I was first introduced to the Lab at a dog beach where a buddy of mine used to take his Labs and I found out that another dog better not come between them and their ball. lol I couldn't believe it when a large Rotweiler tried to forcibly take the ball from one of them and I've never seen a dog spring into action with such aggressive action then turn it off in a heart beat. One of his black labs was so quick and fierce the Rotty whimpered and backed down fast. Labs are super smart and if you get one that has good spirit then you can train it to do whatever. They're not normally considered a protector but I saw those dogs get between my buddy and danger on more than one occasion. Plus these dogs were super loving and great with the family . Beware though, they are a working dog and need exercise and they do shed!
Cane Corsos are the best!!! Great guard dogs & well-loved by friends and family since they’re easy to train. Perfect temperament around kids, too. My corso loves people more than other dogs, he’s not aggressive at all but a bit shy/antisocial lol. Was a bit worried about handling one cos of their size but they’re great dogs for first time owners if you put in a bit of work to train & socialize them. They’re also great if you don’t have more than 30 minutes a day for walks- one walk a day + reviewing commands at night is all you need to stimulate them mentally & physically.
Keeping in mind that I don't really need a working or defense dog, my top 5 dog breeds based on character, intelligence and looks are the following: 1. Standard poodle (super sociable overall, extremely intelligent and very athletic) 2. Old english sheepdog (basically the same reasons as the first one) 3. Working line German shepherd (I've had three German shepherds and they are truly a great breed. Mine were show line and weren't as healthy, which is why they passed quite young) 4. Giant Schnauzer (the most versatile big dog breed) 5. Rottweilers Honorable mentions: Irish wolfhound English bulldog Akita inu
the only thing im worried about with a rottweiler is if I get one that doesn't have ball drive to play fetch, but rottie has always been my favorite breed so idk
Over the last 30 years I have progressed from owning small dogs in the suburbs (English Bulldog, Shitzu) to medium dogs (lab, German Shepherd, Blue Heeler) and giant dogs (Great Pyrenees, Kangal) on a 10-acre farm. I currently have a female GP, a male adult Kangal, their 9-month-old son, and a 3-month-old female Kangal, and they all stay in the house with me and up to 30 farm cats that come in and out as I work from home, and we patrol the farm perimeter at least twice a day and they get their exercise running around the pasture while I do farm chores. I don't keep them outside because I don't have a heavy predator problem and our patrols and letting the dogs loose when they sound off at night is enough for them to protect my sheep and poultry, and I like having them with me in the house for companionship and alarm and protection. My take on keeping the Kangal purely as a pet or family guardian is that a) it takes a very experienced dog owner who can act like a pack leader consistently to do it, b) it takes a lot of time and commitment to give the dogs the exercise and space they DESERVE and WANT to really open up and run a couple of times a day -- even with a 10 acre, 500-yard long pasture that they can cover in SECONDS, c) they are superb guard dogs yet very sensitive and loving and are great around small animals and kids with INITIAL OBSERVATION AND CORRECTION, and d) there are a lot more suitable breeds for the average family in the suburbs to use, and owning one with no backyard is asking for trouble and unfair to the dogs. Sure, you could make it work with a consistent routine and letting them run circles in your backyard and at the dog park however often you take them, but if you ever watched a couple of these dogs running wide open on spotting something or how they play fight by tearing at each others' tails and legs and biting at throats until fur flew all while having the time of their lives, you would see that these incredible dogs really are best on a farm or other kind of acreage, playing only with dogs they know that won't challenge them. Otherwise, it'd be like owning a Ferrari and just using it to drive around the block. Bad for the Ferrari's motor, and would probably get old for you after a while.
really digging the information, content, video quality, fresh beats in the background, and commentary. Excellent channel. Appreciate the quality, substance, and diversity of dogs and peoples... keep it up dogumentary tv... ^ peace !!! & woof..
Nice list. My top 3 are the boxer, presa canario & cane corso. In my case i could only keep 2 dogs. I had a boxer But couldn't decide on the corso or presa so I waited to find a good cross between the 2 breeds. Shes almost 7 mths old now & its been a wonderful experience.
My top 10 1.German Shepherd 2. Irish wolfhounds 3.Malinois 4.cane corso 5.Rottweiler 6.Siberian Husky 7.Mastiff 8. Scottish terrier 9.Dachshund 10. Kangal I have a German Shepherd and a husky right now and my third dog will probably be either another German Shepherd or my very first Malinois and a Irish wolfhound when I’m a lot older
Grateful: I had a rescued pup, a skinny scrawny half-starved little thing who was probably a mix of GS, Rottie and Dobie. He grew to 105 pounds. My favorite dog ever, and certainly the smartest dog I've ever had. I've had lots of big dogs, including St Bernard's, and currently an Anatolian mix who is a true gentle giant, but that Shepherd mix occupies a special place in my heart.
Mine is a Golden Labradoodle! I found by accident that he is an amazingly loyal dog with natural protection instincts. While at our regular training they were doing aggression training after so we stayed and watched and he went absolutely crazy as the trainers came around the circle. At home anyone coming to or by our apartment is warned with a completely different bark that puts one on noice not to mess around with us yet he is a total lap dog. I also have never really had to do recall training because he immediately returns when called no matter what.
Brock Van Tassell Agreed , I've had two shorthairs one medium size and one large both males. The larger one was an excellent guard dog / protection dog as well as a natural hunter and companion (both were great companions / hunters) and sharp as razors / brilliant...........
I work at a kennel/rescue - we had a rhodesian ridgeback mix rescue at one point and he was one of the most amazing dogs I've ever met. super loyal. always wanted to have somebody by his side.. after i'd clock out at work, i would go back to his kennel and sleep with him for an hour. head laying on my chest. cradled in my arms. bald ass head looked like a baby. i hope to adopt a ridgeback one day. wonderful dog (from my experience)
My top fav dog breeds 1 German shepherd 2 dachshund 3 Doberman 4 English bulldog 5 Cane Corso 6 french bulldog 7 all types Of mastiffs 8 American bully
My top three are 1. Akita 2.Cane Corso 3. Dogue de Bordeaux I’d love to see in an in-depth video on working line Dogue de Bordeaux ! Haven’t found many recent videos in Working line (protection preferably) DDB. I would greatly appreciate it
I've owned a Corso. Best dogs I've ever been around. Protective of the family, great instincts, amazing with my kids. A big clown when he got to know someone. Miss my big guy.
German Shepherd Dogs (GSD) are excellent protectors and family pets. They are so smart it is sometimes hard to believe some of the things they know. They are ranked as the 3rd smartest dog in the world and they are also excellent with livestock. You really do get it all with a GSD. They should be in the top five of anyone’s list.
My list in no particular order. Game bred apbt Catahoula leopard dog Black mouth cur Basenji Dingo Australian cattle dog (heeler) Bull terrier Kangal Alabi Tibetan mastiff (Apbt are my favorite and I always keep one)
Had the privilege of calling a Rottweiler my Boo. Most loyal, smart and loving breed. He passed away recently, but had a sweet life of 10,5 years. Forever a Rottie Mom
When I was 19 and growing up in the UK, I bought a Rottweiler puppy and called him Otto. As an adult dog he was 65 kg (143lbs). He made it to 9 years before dying of an enlarged heart. Loved training him. Very powerful. Very intense dog. Would let people pet him on the street, but the minute he was in his castle at our house he was a soldier on duty. An amazing dog. But now I'm 53 and living in Scandinavia I wouldn't own a guard dog of that power again.
My top ten 1.Doberman Pinscher 2.Border Collie 3.Alaskan Malamute 4.German Shepard 5.Akita 6.Husky 7.Rhodesian Ridgeback 8.Great Dane 9.Lurcher 10.Greyhound
#1 hands down Rottweiler. Has been my favorite since my first, Bull, he was an 18 month old rescue who had no manors or discipline but quickly picked up the house rules. Very intelligent yet chill dog. #2 Australian Shepherd. Extremely intelligent, very protective of their ppl and home. #3 spot for me could be filled by any of a few breeds but I guess I’ll have to say Boston Terrier. I’m not really a small dog or a terrier person but it’s been my experience that it’s just hard to be around a Boston and not be in a good mood. They are bright, energetic and affectionate dogs.
Great list! I have so many dog breeds that I love. It’s very hard to pick a top three. I’m saying: 1-Anatolian Shepherd (that’s the American name) 2-Colorado Mountain Dog (rare breed 1/2 Anatolian Shepherd 1/2 Great Pyrenees) 3-Irish Wolfhound. The first two I currently have and the last is just a breed I’ve loved from afar.
First, I only specified the recognized American breed name and nothing more. I never used the Turkish name/classification for my dogs, even though I do know them and they are both classified different in Turkey. Second, in America as it is now the Turkish breeds are unfortunately lumped together for the average person. In Turkey Kangal dogs and others are of a specific coloring and come from specific regions . In America generally you will find all the colorings being lumped into the Anatolian Shepherd group along with all the other Turkish dogs. Third- I think it’s pointless to make such a blanket statement about one being more of something that another. I have personally witnessed that athleticism or any other treat varies too much from dog to dog to make such statements.
Kermit 95 they are all Coban Kopegi (Anatolian Shepherd) what makes Kangal is being from Sivas region and larger and specific color. The white Anatolian Shepherd called Akbash (Akbas); bridle color called Capar (Chapar-Çapar) or Kars Kangal (google it). Boz is most mastiff look heavier ones.... most athletic ones are the less heavier ones... in USA all of them called Anatolian Shepherd (most common found is the traditional coban Anatolian Shepherd) thanks
I live in Colorado and have seen quite a lot of Great Pyrenees crosses! GP with B. Mountain, Anatolian, Akbash, Newfoundland, Saint Bernard, etc. I am on my 4th Irish Wolfhound. Two were mixed (one that was half Newfoundland and the other has 1/4 to 1/8 Great Dane). I almost got an Anatolian/GP mix before getting my latest IW!
Before I started watching this channel, my favourite dog breeds use to be dogs like huskies or malamutes, dogs that resembled a wolf. That was based purely on looks. But these day's I want a dog that can be easily trained and a natural home protector. Now I think huskies and malamutes are quite useless as anything other than a companion dog. Keep up the good work !
You hit all my favoriate breeds! I actually have an application in for a Ridgback Rescue. We had a 115 lb Lab/Ridgeback rescue that lived 13 1/2 years!
Yeah they look to me like Africa Hunting Dogs.
My Doberman once saved me from a kidnapper
Story:
My granny, dog and I went to a shop.
Holy fuck
Brandon Ritz it doesn’t make a difference in my life if you believe me or not I just said my story and it’s your choice to believe in it or not
Jacob Kay I’m not sure like I said I was small and it was winter in Eastern Europe so it was super cold but more then likely yes he probably did 😂
That’s why it’s the best breed ever fast, smart, strong, majestic, and best guard dog !
That was a great story. The dog knew when the break the rules (wiggle out of the collar) in order to protect his loved ones.
Snoop Dogg is my favorite.
😂😂😂😂
German Shepherd, Cane Corso and Blue Bay.
Smokin' breed
Hahahaha
LOL! FO SHIZZLE!
My top 3:
1. Rotties
2. Great Dane
3. Newfoundland
Awesome list!
Love those 🥰
I love Newfies and Great Danes! And the sighthound breeds, they’re all beautiful and elegant. Though their prey drive and wanderlust makes them difficult.
happy to see Kangal gets recognition it deserves🇹🇷
Your content is Netflix worthy! Here before 100, love your work. STILL WAITING ON THE DONOVAN PINSCHER!
jaivaras Jackson I agree and he has good taste with great reasons backing it up.
Bruh you mean Doberman pinscher
Marshall 0k no he means a newer breed in development not yet recognized by the kennel clubs. You can google or RUclips search Donovan Pinscher for more info.
jaivaras Jackson Bro, what's a donavan pincher? My son is named Donavan and in celtic it means dark warrior. Doberman pinshers are one of my favorite dogs.
@@penchingTree No i mean the Donovan Pinscher... Its a breed out of NJ its a molosser breed. Look up the breed you'll fall in love.
You will never regret your decision! I have 3 Rottweilers, all under 2 years old. Once we got one we fell in love with them and could not stop!
milesalexander15 I’ve grown up with Rottweilers my whole life and you’ll love them. They’re so great with kids. Mine let my niece jump all over her and she didn’t ever get angry or growl, she loved the attention lol.
milesalexander15 are they 1 year now

what do you farm master grower 420 🤨
1. German Shepard Dog 💯
2. Doberman Pincher
3. Dutch Shepard
To me nothing even comes close. Smartest most Loyal dogs in the world.
I agree with the Dutch Shepherd. I'd say they're one of the most versatile dogs out there. You can literally use them for everything.
Not to mention that the rough haired version gives off some kind of curly wolf vibes. I think they look insanely cool.
Yes had all three, cream of the crop.... Best ever. Loyal, intelligent, protective and lovable. What more could you ask for.
shepherd*
St Bernard has my heart but I have had one who would do protection as well as snuggle. I raised a coulpe great Pyrs who were totally amazing. My female kept breaking the second floor window and sit and wait for me when I would go some where. Turns out she had chased a drugged up burgler thru the window. Shortly after that he was arrested for attempted murder after a long shoot out with swat. Currently #1 is my dog Rory a labradoodle. Super smart, athletic, protective, trustworthy and unconditional love never ending
1.)Doberman
2.)Dogo
3.)Cane Corso
4.)Boerboel
5.)Rottweiler
6.)Presa Canario
7.)Bull Mastiff
8.)Kangal
9.)Akita
10.)Giant Schnauzer
Seem like you had my top 5 but backwards you have great taste lol !
In the video the Doberman wasn't in the top 5 but ok
I know it's your opinion but HOW DIDN'T YOU INCLUDE GERMAN SHEPHERD?!
Tito Igloo clown is right! My bro in law has one and he's always in this what's going on let's play mode.
Hey
I have an American Pitbull Terrier/boxer mix currently and is hands down the best dog I have come across in person, Thus far. She is an absolute sweetheart and shows nothing but love. She cracks me up day in day out. She’s super goofy when in an relaxed environment lol. When our in public, She is very friendly but also remains alert to her surroundings.
vwr32jeep yeah, I think boxer owners would be really surprised with how CHILL pits generally are.
Kangal's are terrific! I used to have coyote as well as black vulture problems (killing and eating my calves) kangal's stopped this problem. Extra benefit was they are also terrific with children!😁
My grandson is 3 now, grew up around my kangal.
Roommate had 2 of them. Extremely dumb and goofy breed.
Just watched your video learned a lot thank you. My last two dogs have been Akitas so both breeds have great history!
How are kangals for like 2 acre spaces, to defend a chicken coop from coyotes, and to be a family pet at the same time? My friend is getting a dog, and my parents won’t let me have a big dog, so I am trying to help my friend out.
#1 Giant Schnauzer
#2 Standard Schnauzer
#3 German Shepherd
I grew up with GSD'S.
1. Dobermann
2. German Shepherd
3. Rottweiler
Let us know what dog and breeder you end up going with please.
Thanks
Damn, ghetto much?
Matt Peters GSD arent ghetto tf you mean
Matt Peters none of those breeds are ghetto 💀
German Shepherd, Rottweiler, and Cane Corso are my top 3 but I'd love to see a dogumentary on the Standard Poodle.
That is what I was about to say too. Standard poodle! Lol
LightsAflame yes! a working standard poodle!
@@juliac9080 Yes that would be amazing 💙💛❤ I'm getting one for service work and there's hardly any good info on youtube about this breed yet
Yessss
It certainly is more than meets the eye.
Bro, you can see the love in your face when your talking about these dogs! Keep up the good work!
How’s the intelligence of the Anatolian shepherd compared to the Rottweiler?
I saw your comment when i was doing a research on Ridgeback. So thank you!
My favorite dog breeds: *DOGS*
Very rightly said|
Agree!
The only correct answer. Also, the best dog is my dog!
My 5 favourite Dogs.
1 :- Belgium molanois
2:- Rottweiler
3:- Doberman
4:- German shepherd dog
5:- Dogo Argentino
A bonus :- Toy pom..
Great list
Here we have a man who owns a Belgian malinois, instead of a German Shepherd
Those are all mine omggg I love poms!!
They don’t shed or have any odor but do need grooming a couple of times a year!

Great dogs but too high energy for me. Also too smart. I like my dogs big, dumb, and lazy. Sticking with Great Danes.
My top 3 would be 1 Cane Corso 2 Boerboel and 3 Irish Wolfhound
Your a man I can respect; you like the large breeds like me. Your channel is great for any dog lover to get a good understanding of each dogs strengths and weaknesses.
We have two Catahoula Leopard dogs and both are very protective and territorial. They meet you once and you're good but strangers best not come around. Both are about 70 pounds and RIDICULOUSLY athletic. These dogs will run straight up a tree and they have no fear. They work and play harder than any dog I've ever had. I've had boxers, heelers, labs, etc. The Catahoula beats them all.
Caucasian Ovcharka, Alabai, Kangal.
Vladimir Caucasian the best
Yes!
Caucasian Ovcharka is the best! Love it!

:| As if a Boerboel is the ideal house pet in an urban setting. I honestly think the French mastiff is less of a liability.
Im from Swaziland in Southern Africa and i had a Rhodasian ridgeback which was very protective of me when i grew up and it handled a spitting cobra for me so i'll make it my number one followed by the boerboel and i wish to have an encounter with a rottweiler
Boerboels as so beautiful hhh
That's actually amazing

my first ever dog was an American Staffordshire pitbull terrier and she was with me since I was born (actually she arrived just 1 day before I was born) and she was my best friend, she never bit me, she never growled, she never showed any aggressive behavior, she would let me get away with murder. so yea I think they are amazing dogs for families with young children, that's why they were so popular as family-friendly dogs in the 19th century.

"Moose" that's a interesting name. Lol. Kangals are amazing dogs
i have one their so cute but hate other dogs
Irish Wolfhound, English Mastiff, Newfoundland, Rottweiler, German Shepherd, Golden Retriever and then the rest!

1. German Shepherd
2. Rottweiler
3. Labrador
Bonus: Doberman- I had to include them because I love them A LOT

What about a husky they are the cutest breed
After a Rhodesian Ridgeback, anything else is just a dog. Incredibly intelligent and fearless. Quiet by nature, when they bark, they have a good reason. Fast, strong, loving and predictable, they are the absolute best

My top 5:
1) Black Lab
2) Rottweiler
3) English Mastiff
4) German Shepherd
5) Beagle
My dad's female black lab is always aware of any strangers outside of the gates, but whoever we let inside is welcomed like if she knew them her whole life lol

2. Saluki
3. Norwegian Elkhound
Peace!
I can't believe you don't have the German Shepherd on this list !!
It's his list
He likes the breed, but it just isn’t among his absolute favorites. They aren’t aesthetically pleasing to him as they look like wolves due to their head structure. He likes powerful, robust breads with massive heads which is why he leans more towards the mastiffs. Additionally, German Shepherds have very thick coats, which he dislikes and sheds a ton!
He has said it before that he doesn't like dogs with long coat
agreed
I am first time big dog owner and my Corso is amazing me everyday. I can't praise this breed enough
Love this. Rottweilers! Number One! Had them since 1994. Have a 14 year old right now. Great show!
Keeping in mind that I don't really need a working or defense dog, my top 5 dog breeds based on character, intelligence and looks are the following:
1. Standard poodle (super sociable overall, extremely intelligent and very athletic)
2. Old english sheepdog (basically the same reasons as the first one)
3. Working line German shepherd (I've had three German shepherds and they are truly a great breed. Mine were show line and weren't as healthy, which is why they passed quite young)
4. Giant Schnauzer (the most versatile big dog breed)
5. Rottweilers
Honorable mentions:
Irish wolfhound
English bulldog
Akita inu
APBT , malinois , Rottweiler Best dogs ever
And Staffordshire bull terrier
Im actually trying to decide between these 3 breeds right now for my next puppy
yep malinois and aptb puppys to have in an apartment without problems oh yeah
divac7777 go for a rottie
the only thing im worried about with a rottweiler is if I get one that doesn't have ball drive to play fetch, but rottie has always been my favorite breed so idk
1. Rhodesian Ridgeback
2. Bullmastiff
3. Blue Heeler

I was waiting for someone to say Akita, one of the best breeds!!!
Aaron Taylor I love Akita’s. Just lost mine a month ago. They leave a giant hole in your heart.
Akita would be my top as well but they have a bunch of health issues
Cane corsos are the best

Love your videos!
Great job
German Shepherd Dogs (GSD) are excellent protectors and family pets. They are so smart it is sometimes hard to believe some of the things they know. They are ranked as the 3rd smartest dog in the world and they are also excellent with livestock. You really do get it all with a GSD. They should be in the top five of anyone’s list.
My list in no particular order.
Game bred apbt
Catahoula leopard dog
Black mouth cur
Basenji
Dingo
Australian cattle dog (heeler)
Bull terrier
Kangal
Alabi
Tibetan mastiff
(Apbt are my favorite and I always keep one)
NICE, I have a Black Mouth Cur!
Yes heelers are the best!
1) Rottweiler 🔥🔥🔥
2) Doberman Pinscher
3) Dogo Argentino
Had the privilege of calling a Rottweiler my Boo. Most loyal, smart and loving breed. He passed away recently, but had a sweet life of 10,5 years. Forever a Rottie Mom
The Denzy Bird so sad they dont live long :(
When I was 19 and growing up in the UK, I bought a Rottweiler puppy and called him Otto.
Much love and respect from SYDNEY AUSTRALIA. We appreciate your videos, for real.
Akbash, Kangal, and St. Bernard are my favs
My top ten
1.Doberman Pinscher

3.Alaskan Malamute

Move the Doberman and Akita below the Husky and 2,3,4, and 6 up, and that's pretty much a perfect breakdown!!!

#2. Rottweiler
#3. German Shepherd
Honerable mention: American Bully
The best RUclips channel for dogs
Best channel on the tube of yous 💯
1-pit bull terrier (am staff..bullshire or any combination) 2-cane corso 3- weimaraner
The american staff is a pit?
@@IEatApeShit usually those 3 breeds are categorized as pit bulls
@@9livetofly learning something new everyday
Great list! I have so many dog breeds that I love. It’s very hard to pick a top three. I’m saying:
1-Anatolian Shepherd (that’s the American name)
2-Colorado Mountain Dog (rare breed 1/2 Anatolian Shepherd 1/2 Great Pyrenees)
3-Irish Wolfhound.
The first two I currently have and the last is just a breed I’ve loved from afar.
Actually kangal and anatolian shepherds are different breeds.Kangal are more athlethic than anatolian shepherds
Kermit 95 they are not different breed; same breed from different regions.
