When I was still a college student, my 13” M1 Air was perfect for portability. After graduating though, I feel like a bigger screen serves my needs better and I don’t have to travel from class to class anymore. So I’m gonna go with the 15” MacBook Air.
the 13 inch MBA's selling point is really for the extreme portability and it fits almost any kind of backpack just like a folio folder. The MBA 15 is way bigger. if you going from places to places like cafe, library, travelling etc, then the MBA 13 might be the better choice.
Idk man, the 15” is such a perfect size. I think you are underselling the extra real estate. It’s barely heavier. It’s still super portable but with a larger screen. I traded my 13” for the 15” and don’t think I could ever go back.
honestly... the 15 is bigger and for someone like me.. who wants that portability.. smaller size.. it is a dealbreaker to go for 15 when what i want is small. just how it is. il get a 15 inch macbook pro when i invest in a main portable machine.
Very good points about ergonomics and the way you use it in day to day life, on your actual lap vs on the table and how comfortable it is to use. I think if you multitask using a few windows at the same time the extra screen space will probably be better.
Have to say the 15" is gorgeous with that display and it may well be Apple's best selling laptop in 2023. Went to my local Best Buy to see it in person and it is really fantastic wth its lightweight design, massive trackpad and keyboard and speaker system. To get deeper blacks on the non mini-LED screen of the Air, go into Accessibility setting and move the Display contrast slider a bit to the right and it makes it look almost OLED. Wow.
If you're frequently on the move, the 13 inch screen is ideal and you can easily attach it to an external monitor. On the other hand, if you want a larger display, then the 15 inch screen is recommended as it provides more space for code or text. By the way, it would be beneficial if Apple could include 512 GB of storage in their base models.
I'm frequently on the move and for ergonomical reasons I prefer the 15 inch - let's be honest, it's still a lightweight laptop even with a bigger screen. I come from a 13 inch macbook pro (2015) with intel chip, 8gb ram and 128 sdd which was perfectly fine for me as a content creator 😉 It was my main computer.
Fun fact: my two most favorite RUclipsrs are super sponsored Marques Brownlee and no sponsored Dayo Aworunse! You're awesome bro, keep it up. My preferred choice is a good old 14 inch M1 MacBook Pro. But the 15 inch Air is a really attractive computer.
I just got the 13.6 inch M2 MacBook Air with 16 gigs of ram memory, and 512 SSD storage. I kept the 8c CPU/8c GPU as well, as I didn't see that much difference with the 10C GPU. This is my first laptop, and I love it, very user friendly. I've been a desktop Windows user since 1999 with Windows 98. My last Dell desktop came with Windows 7 pro, and 2T hard drive, cause I had a website, building my own webpages. Wish you guys would choose better music to test out the sound, like Beach Boys, Wouldn't Be Nice or Nat King Cole. From my viewpoint, with experience with music, I think the 15 inch Air is louder but, not much difference in sound quality. Also, I think for students, and teachers, the 13.6 inch Air is more portable. When I had the Soho Apple Store, help me set up my laptop, after I put it in my new crossbody laptop briefcase, I was able to walk around Soho, and Chinatown, without any strain on my shoulders. It's very light weight, and I love the fact that I'm not tied to a desk. Now I can sit in my couch, with legs up on my chaise, with laptop on my lap. I think the 15 inch will be great to put on a desk. Is it worth the extra money, for a larger screen? I wear glasses to read, and work on the laptop, and they make the screen look bigger. For me this is perfect, plus I didn't want the hassle of learning curve with Windows 11. I love the fact that my iPhone 13pro is sinked to my laptop. I take a photo on phone and it transfers to my Mac, how cool is that! Unless you are a gamers, I eventually see less sales of desktops. Especially, since you can add a separate monitor to your laptop. Great video, and you are the only tech guy not waxing poetic over the bigger laptop, that is essentially the same as the 13.6 Air.
I agree with Dayo's assessment. I have a 16" M1 Max. When the 15" Air was released I was excited because I thought "...lighter machine, slightly smaller, this would be perfect for me as a coder". Then I went my local to my local Apple store and came to the conclusion that there isnt enough difference size wise between my 16" and the 15" Air to justify the purchase. Now I'm fairly certain that the 13" Air will become my compliment to my 16" Air.
@@jessel.8697 Ah ok. I guess I fall in the minority where 16” isnt heavy and good with the portability. The 13” just feels too small to be using a dekstop OS. But everyone has their own preferences and thats cool.

Excellent review. I’m kinda torn between the two. I think I’d prefer the 13” and buy an external portable usb c 15” monitor in case I needed extra screen real estate. I know everyone says the 15” is portable because it’s still light, but it’s huge compared to the 13”. I’m sick of all the “ hype” about the 15”.
You are speaking exactly what I am thinking. I am very heavily leaning towards 13 inch but that woofer 6 speaker system in 15 is very tempting too. I am finding it hard to decide 😑
I got the 13 inch air when it first came out... transitioning from my iMac to this screen feels a little too small for sustained work. I think I will get the 15 inch. When I looked it in the store I like the increased screen size.
Really enjoying the honest reviews. Can’t believe sponsors haven’t discovered you yet! Hey, any chance you’d want to raise the volume of your videos? I’ve been noticing whenever your videos play in my feed, the volume is always quite a bit lower than than all the prior videos from others. Yours sound fine once turned up, but seem to be consistently lower than other creators.
Just edited 4K video using plugins from mkbhd, render it and put in the iCloud. I used a base m1 MacBook Air with 8gb of ram and 256ssd. It was a breeze. Yesterday I opened illustrator, photoshop and indesign at-the-same-time, so I could finish a freelancer job between the 3 programs. Don’t have any issues. If the base m1 with 7gpu can do it without even getting hot, the base m2 air can do it too and a little more. I just don’t get it why every youtuber wants you to buy the 2k pro models to make creative work when the air is more than capable. The base MacBook Air is a machine that can do much more than word, excel and every day stuff. Even a phone can do these things today. The air is a strong machine to work on. If you can get 16gb, you’ll have a lightweight supercomputer. You don’t need the pro.
I have a 16” MacBook Pro. It’s too heavy to lug around so I bought a 15” air for portability and also for my part time employee to use. Think I have best of both worlds now.
The best comparison review. I've looked at several and though numbers are important, ergonomics are just as important to me. I do my work on a Mac Studio at a desk. Right now I'm using a MBA 11 inch and it's my favorite laptop. I love the size and weight, 2.2 lbs.
I needed the 15" my only option was to get a windows machine or the 16" monster. The 15" is perfect, no lifestyle changes lol, still go out to coffee shops with no issues. I will say the extra space feels better, I don't feel constrained and I'm not straining to see details on my screen. I would use my ipad as a second screen, now I can just use 1 device. I'm usually in terminal, running word documents, coding, lightroom, photoshop, Blender (light/medium projects),trading apps, etc, anything I need to run my business. I believe the Air (13" or 15") is perfect for most people in Business, Developers, IT Pros, Trainers, and students. I actually purchased and returned the 14" Pro (purchased because it was the better "value"). I picked up the 15" to the specs needed 16gb/1TB. It actually was $100 more than the Pro (on sale). I haven't missed a step in any of my workflows. Most people don't need the pro.
I travel a lot for extensive periods, and up until now I used a heavier 13 inch Macbook Pro from 2015 (8GB and 128GB SSD) as my main work machine as a fulltime content creator. Since my Macbook Pro recently died after 9 years of use, I'll be buying the Macbook Air 15 inch base model. It'll still be lighter than the Macbook Pro I had and luckily the screen will be bigger. At a certain point the 13 inch screen became too small since I don't use it with an external monitor when I travel and stay away for a few months. It'll probably be more ergonomical as well, since it'll be my main computer. So, in my user case, the MBA 15 inch will be an ideal travel buddy.
tried the 13 inch m1 MacBook Air for around half year now, like the weight, but still not a fan of the screen size, used to have a 15 inch MacBook Pro, plan to upgrade to 15 inch air or 16 inch pro after the release of 3nm chip.
So basically if you’re a short person with short hands and small everything the 13 is enough for you. And if you’re big tall and handsome just like me. The 15 is the way to go
Good video, I’m also a 13” fan. But I’ve got the 13” pro. Love the Touch Bar lol.13” mbp gets no love these days, what are your thoughts? Looking forward to your perspective on the 14pro vs 15air
Good to know, ordered the 13 inch and used the money that I would be using on the 15 inch on upgrades. I went 13" 512GB and 24GB of RAM. I don't want to have a bottlenecks using this thing for day to day use and light photo and video editing.
I upgraded from the Air M2 13 inch to the 15 inch. I love the bigger display. The only thing that sucked was the trade in value for such a new computer.
thank you I was confused to which I should get 13 or 15 you made it clear in the coach and all I think 13 inch is the perfect size for me. I almost always prefer the smaller size devices am even using 14 pro.
I totally agree with you. Because I use my MacBook instead of an iPad the 13 Inch is perfectly for me. Its too comfortable weight. And when the screensize is not enough I connect it to my external display. Its as you said: With the 15 inch MBA I would use it mostly on a table. So then i can also connect a external display.
The $999 student pricing for the 13" is perfect for its target audience. What student wants to fit the 15" on a tiny university desk or coffee shop table?
13". The screen on the 15" is a bit too big. I thought it would be lovely, but found it to be unsatisfactory. If you want a big screen on a laptop, go MB Pro. You will not be disappointed.
I still like the method of ‘you’re only allowed 1 upgrade’. Otherwise, go for the Pro model. Plus, the new 15” Air can’t push 2 external monitors. That’s my deciding factor. Thx!
Would you say the 15 inch is just as annoying as the 16 MBP? I couldn’t stand how heavy it was was when I was using it on the couch or laying down in bed. Great video I will go with the 13 inch
Hey Dayo, New here. If I wish to upgrade my laptop but can't do it myself; not to mess up the internals, would it best to buy the parts (Ram/SSD) and take it to a pc repair store? or just take it directly to the store and they deal with the upgrades? Pls advise 🙏
You can probably look up the parts and see if what would be the best option for you. You can then take it to the store and ask him if they can upgrade your computer with the parts you found or they'll give you better deals and upgrade it for you. Honestly it's not too hard to upgrade yourself, after watching a couple videos you'll be more than fine
As a visually impaired person the 15 is the one I’d opt for! I’m use to having heavy laptops on my lap, so the 15 inch air is a breeze!! But it’s all personal preference at the end of the day!
For a long time, I’ve felt that Apple didn’t have a laptop for me. My first Apple laptop was a mid-2009 MBP and it cost me $2500. That laptop is now 14yrs old and has been unsupported for YEARS. I’ve wanted a replacement but I didn’t want to spend another $2k on a laptop and I didn’t want one of their lil netbook-sized Airs. NOW Apple has a laptop for me - although why they’re stacking it with only 8gb/256gb is beyond me. I’ll be upgrading both and still saving on getting another MBP.
He is the only tech youtuber who goes in this much detail, and tells everything so precisely, love you bro and this macbook is awesome, a little overpriced, but awesome
With this M-Series so good, what’s happening with Intel and AMD? Also, I have a 2015 MBP that just got bumped off the MacOS update rotation, but it’s still going strong. Should I get the new 15” Air, or stick with the MBPros? If so, when should I upgrade? I don’t do any heavy computing, video editing, nor number-crunching. Just normal stuff). Thx, Sir.
I decided to jump the gun and buy the MacBook Air 15 inch but with 24GB RAM and leave the 256GB SSD since I have an 5TB external hard drive and seems people worry too much on storage due to only 1 chip which I get but after seeing so many videos and RUclipsrs doing “benchmarks” cause I don’t think I’ll see any difference in the SSD and I’m sure it can run very well with a lot of applications and especially having a gaming monitor so I don’t need a Pro MacBook, yes people will say I should have gone with the Pro but people underestimate how good the M2 Air is and it’s portability, I’d say if you love the M2 Air, go for It, just make sure to get more RAM whether it’s 16 or 24GB rather than storage
As a forensic psychologist I maintain three offices, two are out of town. My Apple universe assessment determined the following needs for coding and stats: (1) M2 power (2) large screen and (3) portability. The laptop has to look good in my office and perform amazingly. My iPads are for reading on the train or plane. What I am looking for now is the Mac Air integration with Apple vision. When can I have that tech in a pair of glasses that syncs with my AirPods?
First review to call out the lifestyle side of things and how bigger is not always better. I used to use a 16" MBP and the footprint was huge making it difficult to have it side by side with coffee cup on a cafe table.
You are just as good if not better than kbhd you sound so composed in your reviews I hope your channel explodes it really helps after bursting my appendix
There is so much OVER hype about the new 15-inch Macbook Air that one must think there is no other computer that compares. I disagree. People have likes and dislikes. I have had in my possession the Macbook 13, 15, and 16 I have owned the Air and the Pro and they are all different. So which Mac do I prefer and use. I use the shunned Macbook Pro M2 with the old-school touch bar. I love this computer and for me, it fits. I like the 13-inch size and I love the battery life I love the touchbar even though many people don't. Just saying it's all personal. The benchmarks for me are irrelevant. Email, Office, Whats app, Google Drive, my older 2012 handles my needs on this sort of usage. I take my pro m2 and it's good for two days.

I still like the method of ‘you’re only allowed 1 upgrade’. Otherwise, go for the Pro model. Plus, the new 15” Air can’t push 2 external monitors. That’s my deciding factor. Thx!
Good point
How do you get those wallpaper?
Dynamic wallpaper on macOS store
The 13 inch kinda small for those who codes, the 15 big not comfortable to hold ..., the 14 inch is the favorite spot
14inch is the sweet spot
@@DayoAworunse I have bottle cap glasses; I need 15”
Naija boy, carry on. Exchange rate got you sponsored 😅
Thx, Sir.
Do you give away laptops after reviewing?
I just changed 13 inch to 15 cause its difficult for my eyes to have a little screen
do a comparison of this machine with 15 inch intel-based one
I love my 15inch
can i get the other laptop for school purposes🙏🙏🙏
SuperHawk54 -- are you till happy with the MBA 15 inch after 5 months?
As a forensic psychologist I maintain three offices, two are out of town. My Apple universe assessment determined the following needs for coding and stats:
(1) M2 power (2) large screen and (3) portability. The laptop has to look good in my office and perform amazingly. My iPads are for reading on the train or plane. What I am looking for now is the Mac Air integration with Apple vision. When can I have that tech in a pair of glasses that syncs with my AirPods?
Did you find the device to perform amazingly amazing?
What if they are the same price?
Depends on if you want the benefits of a larger screen or not. As much as I enjoy larger laptops, long term, hauling it around everywhere is a pain
Thanks for attention my comfort creatures , i was looking for this....i am happy with my Macbook air 2017 screen size....hence 13 is my choice on M2
Just confirmed I want the 13 inch
It sure is a confusing title 😂
In Germany we save "Bester Mann"
these qre both hella expensive i would just go with the base of whatever is cheapest personally
14 inch is a great in between size
Which mac do you use for your software engineer job?
I use a Dell XPS 15, but personal I bounce between m1 and M2, more on M2 now
Nobody…YET. 😉
