I hate the comments saying its not better than the original. Of course not, but this is a great rendition and gives chris mad kudos. Ruston Kelly is bringing old country music back with modern flare. What better way to do it with one of the saddest lyrical songs written.
not sure why all the hate in the comments, i've been listening to Dashboard Confessional since i was a college emo kid in like 2000, since i've grown up, i've taken a liking to older country music. This combines the two genres perfectly and the steel guitar captures the heartache the lyrics convey better than any other instrument ever could. I'd like to hear more of Chris's music covered like this. Suppose this mishmash is gonna anger the hardcore rock crowd and the bro country fans but is what it is.
I get the impression from a few different things I've seen that Ruston Kelly really likes and admires Chris Carrabba. I also think they're two of the best song writers alive. I would love to see them collaborate and co-write a few songs to be performed by each guy on their respective albums. And in contrast to a couple of the comments, I think it's awesome that Chris is singing backup. Shows a lot of respect and makes this cover legit.
Absolutely grateful to have had the good fortune to learn about Ruston Kelly and be able to listen to his music at the touch of an icon on an iPhone. Such talent. A beautiful voice. And a wonderful story of recovery.
Although I wish I knew this existed when you first put it up I’m happy I’m starting my year finding out about it. Thanks. This is my favorite thing ever.
I fell in love with him when I saw him open for Brian Fallon (of Gaslight Anthem fame). I thought I was the only one who loved both country music and late 90s/early 2000s emo.
I’ll probably get a lot of hate for saying this but... it’s a good version, but it just doesn’t hit my heart like The original or acoustic version did/does even after almost 20 years.
rr narratives I don’t like to write negative comments but I think this is terrible interpretation of this song. Just watch Chris body language, he looks likes he trying get energy into this song. The singer is trying to turn this into a reflective ballad and it’s an aggressive declarative emo song.
Cadre Deux yup I totally agree. I just watched it again to give it another try and couldn’t complete it. I dunno, the concept of taking emo songs and making it folk seems alright but not if it’s slow. Regardless, I prefer people to just leave emo songs the way they are.
an I? Ok I'm missing your bed I never sleep Avoiding the spots where we'd have to speak And this bottle of beast is taking me home I'm cuddling close to blankets and sheets But you're not alone, and you're not discreet Make sure I know who's taking you home I'm reading your note over again There's not a word that I comprehend Except when you signed it "I will love you always and forever" As for now I'm gonna hear the saddest songs And sit alone and wonder How you're making out And as for me, I wish that I was anywhere with anyone Making out I'm missing your laugh How did it break? And when did your eyes begin to look fake? I hope you're as happy as you're pretending I'm cuddling close to blankets and sheets And I am alone In my defeat I wish I knew you were safely at home I'm missing your bed I never sleep Avoiding the spots where we'd have speak And this bottle of beast is taking me home Well, as for now I'm gonna hear the saddest songs And sit alone and wonder How you're making out And as for me, I wish that I was anywhere with anyone Making out Your hair, it's everywhere Screaming infidelities And taking its wear Your hair, it's everywhere Screaming infidelities And taking its wear Your hair, it's everywhere Screaming infidelities And taking its wear Your hair, it's everywhere Screaming infidelities And taking its wear
Some covers are absolutely horrible (I'm looking at you Madonna's American Pie, and Nicki French's Total Eclipse Of The Heart!). This one is just... pretty bad. I mean, sure... it's pretty. But it removes all of passion and intensity of being hurt that the original had and turns it into pure, drippy sap like something you'd hear in a modern remake of some popular 1990's TV show.
The punchy drums and strained vocals made this song. The lyrics have always been kind of cheesy. Too bad that’s the only thing left to focus on here now.
Why do people insist on covering songs in awful manners? The reason it was so good in the first place was because of how it was performed. Same thing with the horrendous Disney remakes.
Possibly the most bland and boring cover of this song ever made. But, 99% of Ruston Kelly’s music is bland, generic and boring. So I should have expected such.
good god this is literally one of the most beautiful pieces of music i've ever heard. what an incredible cover.
We can't call this song like a cover
@@gustavomello5433 só pq o chris carrabba canta também kk

Whoa - that pedal steel is hauntingly amazing.
Perfectly complimented the heart ache being conveyed
Chris was so sincerely honored, love it....this is how music lives on! Thanks Chris

This isn't probably the best thing I have ever seen, it is definitely the best thing I have seen an artist give an inspired person
damn! i found this cover a little late.. maan this cover is so great!! chillsss!!! even cooler that you get Chris backing up the song. love it, man!!
God, this is beautiful.
Absolutely grateful to have had the good fortune to learn about Ruston Kelly and be able to listen to his music at the touch of an icon on an iPhone. Such talent. A beautiful voice. And a wonderful story of recovery.
I miss seeing Rusty play in my buddy Mikey's back yard. Just 7 years ago and look at him now. Great dude and deserves every bit of his success
I miss the Rusty parties 😭😭😭
This version of this song is everything. I love the passion and the melody...RK just can't go wrong...
I love this version; it really gets you; hauntingly beautiful!
Oh watch till the end... such passion such harmonies! Wow!
This has forever been my absolute favorite song and this is such a beautiful rendition of it. Thank you for this awesome cover. 😌
Why am I just discovering this? Incredible cover
Holy wow. Goosebumps and typing through tears. Thanks guys.
Although I wish I knew this existed when you first put it up I’m happy I’m starting my year finding out about it. Thanks. This is my favorite thing ever.
Thanks I'm sad now
Holy smokes. I’m blown away.
I fell in love with him when I saw him open for Brian Fallon (of Gaslight Anthem fame). I thought I was the only one who loved both country music and late 90s/early 2000s emo.
Wow. Just wow
Hearing his voice in this song actually makes my heart ache
This is amazing.
Gave us everything we didn't even know we wanted 😍😍😍😍
This is so awesome. Gives me goosebumps Everytime
When you thought this song can't any better! 😭 well as for now I'm gonna hear the saddest song...🖤
Awesome!
Whoooa, this was absolutely amazing.

The guy in the baseball cap redeemed this for me. Very good voice.

This is just stupid. I can’t process how incredible it is no matter how many times I listen to it.
Ah this takes me back to my angsty teenage years😏

DIRT EMO
Why is Dave Navarro in this?
What mixed reviews of this in the comments. I thought it was gorgeous.
I don't want to hit the like button because it's at 636.
I’ll probably get a lot of hate for saying this but... it’s a good version, but it just doesn’t hit my heart like The original or acoustic version did/does even after almost 20 years.
Ed H I agree completely. Nowhere near as good. And why is Chris singing backup to his own music. I’m kinda confused by this
The song suppose to be emoting angst, the tempo is wrong. They took the emo out of a EMO song.
I’m with you. The musical style doesn’t match. Definitely would work with other songs. Just not this one. Just not with any dashboard song.
rr narratives I don’t like to write negative comments but I think this is terrible interpretation of this song. Just watch Chris body language, he looks likes he trying get energy into this song. The singer is trying to turn this into a reflective ballad and it’s an aggressive declarative emo song.

screaming mid-life crisis.
I was ready to hate this. I didn't.
Same here but it was done very well
“Well as for nyow...” LOL.
STFU that's hilarious!
Jules Right?! I mean, don’t get me wrong - it’s a great song. But when I first heard it, I was like, “wait...WHAT?! That can’t be for real!” Lol.
Rapaglia1 as soon as you said that I was like I know I’m not alone in thinking he’s saying NYOWWWW
Hands down the best version there is.
Why does Chris look like Yelawolf? Lol
I surprised he agreed to sing backup vocals to his own song. It was good but in no way better than the original
an I? Ok
I'm missing your bed
I never sleep
Avoiding the spots where we'd have to speak
And this bottle of beast is taking me home
I'm cuddling close to blankets and sheets
But you're not alone, and you're not discreet
Make sure I know who's taking you home
I'm reading your note over again
There's not a word that I comprehend
Except when you signed it
"I will love you always and forever"
As for now I'm gonna hear the saddest songs
And sit alone and wonder
How you're making out
And as for me, I wish that I was anywhere with anyone
Making out
I'm missing your laugh
How did it break?
And when did your eyes begin to look fake?
I hope you're as happy as you're pretending
I'm cuddling close to blankets and sheets
And I am alone
In my defeat I wish I knew you were safely at home
I'm missing your bed
I never sleep
Avoiding the spots where we'd have speak
And this bottle of beast is taking me home
Well, as for now I'm gonna hear the saddest songs
And sit alone and wonder
How you're making out
And as for me, I wish that I was anywhere with anyone
Making out
Your hair, it's everywhere
Screaming infidelities
And taking its wear
Your hair, it's everywhere
Screaming infidelities
And taking its wear
Your hair, it's everywhere
Screaming infidelities
And taking its wear
Your hair, it's everywhere
Screaming infidelities
And taking its wear

Dig it....but TOO watered down. I appreciate what was tried here, but could have used some faint guitar in the background, at least.
Why would you want to sing this if your a happy newlywed, is he implying she was cheating on him, seems like it.
Some covers are absolutely horrible (I'm looking at you Madonna's American Pie, and Nicki French's Total Eclipse Of The Heart!). This one is just... pretty bad. I mean, sure... it's pretty. Nope. Doesn't even come closing to hitting the emotion of the original 👎
Terrible. Love Dashboard, man this is bad.
This is 10000000 times better than the original😭
Cool idea but this sucks
Chris is my hero but this is wack lol
Possibly the most bland and boring cover of this song ever made. But, 99% of Ruston Kelly’s music is bland, generic and boring. So I should have expected such.
I’m sure someone with the name Dark Thunder knows all about bland and boring
This is the death of music. Terrible.
Just when I thought this song couldn’t get anymore satisfying.. 💔
