I love watching Halloween videos!! Thank you for posting this, I've definitely been waiting anxiously for some new content! You're hands down one of the most underrated gaming channels on RUclips. Your production and personality are both stellar. Keep at it because I can't get enough! I hope your channel blows up and gets the recognition it deserves!
I interviewed one of Evil Dead Regeneration's designers some years back and he shared some interesting facts about Regeneration's development like: -Ash's car was meant to be drivable, but it and its levels were cut -The boss fights were meant to be more intricate, but had to be scaled back -There were no plans for a sequel, they intentionally ended it on a cliffhanger to keep it in line with the open-ended nature of the films
Ash going back in time to the civil war era and leading a combined army of Union and confederate soldiers against hoards of undead is so WILD I can’t believe that’s real
I don't know why Abraham Lincoln gets all the credit, when it was Ash Williams who single handedly healed the rift between the North and South by slaughtering demons with them.
One of my favourite youtubers talking about my favourite horror franchise?!?! Hell yea this is a good halloween!!! Edit: oh man happy to hear that level progression in fistful of boomsticks wasnt just me being dumb lol yea i did enjoy that game but that obtuseness could be a killer on my enjoyment of it i had the exact same problem with the dynamite thing on the first level
Us not getting an Evil Dead game designed in the vein of Resident Evil 4 or The Evil Within, etc. etc. yet feels like a missed opportunity. But never say never !
23:00 dude, you just unlocked a memory. One of the first episodes of og XPLAY was for for this game and they talked so much about Sam and what he adds to the gameplay (specifically hiw you just abuse him).
I LOVE your coverage of these games man! I really enjoyed Regeneration and Fist Full Of Boom Stick so it's amazing to see them get attention like this!
Ash landing into Manhattan 2149. And just takes all of the punishers weapons, and walking away while the punisher screams his name while he gets infected always makes me laugh. Love marvel zombies
Man, I am a little late to watching this one, but Evil Dead Regeneration is really special to me. I played that game, while I was in middle school and found it at a place called, "Entertainmart." They have sadly closed, but what a great find. I loved tossing baddies in the air and keeping them up there for so long. You forgot to also mention you can collect pages from the Book of the Dead and you get behind the scenes videos with it. Also, Sam was such a lovely edition. I felt like before the show even came out, this was the closest thing to a great sequel or continuation of the films. Thanks for covering this! I've been waiting for someone to talk about it. Also, I could barely get through Fistfull of Boomstick, but it looks like it might be worth going through a little more. The saving mechanic in that game just sucks.
I'm still baffled that we got Friday the 13th AND Texas Chainsaw AND Evil Dead AND Killer Klowns From Outerspace all as asymmetrical horror games. Why do they all have that!? Its so much effort and so expensive to make an online competitive game. It reminds me of the 2000s when everyone was trying to make their own World of Warcraft.
Saddly we live in the era of "this is popular, let's do that to get money" and look how well it end up being...but hey, with RetroRealms we might see those horror franchises having the 2D pixel treatment!
Plug X Horror Movie into Y Formulaic Gameplay Loop and you have modern Horror games based on popular IPs. What's sad is Left 4 Dead had better asymmetrical vs and that came out over a decade ago
The one appearance of Ash that you forgot to mention is when he showed up in 2D run and gun action platformer called Broforce, developed by Free Lives. Ash in that game is one of many iconic action movies characters and you can unlock him via freeing certain number of hostages. Outside of Ash, in Broforce we have characters like Rambo, John Matrix, Neo, Robocop, Terminator, Mad Max, Chuck Norris, Jean Claude Van-Damme from different movies, Mr T, Predator, Conan The Barbarian and many others. So yeah, a cool game that not too long ago got a new update called Broforce Forever.
You know what would've been cool in Evil Dead The Game? If they added new survivors like Jake from Evil Dead 2, Dalton from Ash vs Evil Dead, Eric from the Evil Dead Remake, and the kids and mother from Evil Dead Rise, that would all be SO COOL...
I never knew Fistful of Boomstick was a sequel. Given I never finished ED: HTTK, that's on me, but still I like that it's a continuity than a one-off. "A man is known by the company he keeps. And yours smells like roadkill." -Ash ED: FFOB
I love all of these. I got into Evil Dead because my brother found a copy of “Hail to the King” for the Dreamcast. I was 10. I’m in my 30s now and I intend to be an Evil Dead fan for the rest of my days.
Evil Dead Regeneration is the only game that I've played, and the only fun game that I played on the PS2. Too bad they aren't any more games like this. If you count the multi-player and Retro Arcade.
I just recently fell in love with these movies over this past month. I don't vibe with a lot of horror movies, as I think they're mean and depressing more often than not, but the Evil dead movies have a humor and style to them, and Ash is explicitly a hero, which I appreciate. I wish the women were cooler and written better, but no movie is perfect I've heard the TV series is pretty fun so it'll be cool to check that out.
A fistful of boomstick was absolutely goated for me. When i was little, For hours id sit at the pilice lines leading armys of deadites back to to the cops for an epic fight. Same during the civil war level
Also still hoping that one of these days that they'll both evil dead fistful of boom stick and evil dead regeneration either both get remasters/remakes with major improvements to the gameplay and everything else.
I do agree with you about that if the evil dead the game 2022 was more single player focused than multiplayer focused than it would been much better but still enjoyed and had have fun with it and yes, the single player challenges do some resident survival horror elements, and I love it especially the callbacks and easter eggs to the Franchise and the new evil dead game by retrorealms it looks like fun.
Also...😯. I cannot believe ive NEVER heard of these games! That ps1 game looks especially bonkers crazy in both a bad and good way! The first "Resident Evil" got an excellent port to the Nintendo DS, some ppl inexplicably hated it, but its my favorite version. I wouldve gone NUTS for a DS port of that PS1 evil dead game.
"Bruce Campbell is the finest man to grace a silver screen." ~Psychostick 2:51 As long as you're not one of those knuckleheads who thinks ED2 is a "remake" of TED. 4:53 The one thing is does right is the graphic style. 8:05 That's kinda like 'In the Mouth of Madness'. 9:46 The style fits perfectly. The only thing they got wrong is the eyebrows. His right eyebrow should be arched up more (that's "his" right) with his left eye appearing slightly squinted compared to his glaring right eye. 11:46 What if it played more like 'Legacy of Kain: Soul Reaver'. 13:34 "Bumbling YET charismatic" is how you should phrase that. 14:04 Gatling Guns existed then. The Union had them. They're top-fed and crank-operated. 15:24 Why's he wearing the same clothes he wore in ED2? With EXACTLY the same battle damage, even! 18:08 They got his eyebrows mostly right. 19:49 Dr. Betruger, I presume? 20:11 I like the idea of Ash's mentality being stuck in the '70s. It's canon that he was 25 in 1982 which is when TED and ED2 take place, so he would have been a teenager in the '70s. Ash having a '70s teenager's mentality just fits. More specifically, a '70s teenager from the northern Midwest. 26:55 Did they forget that Ash (like Bruce, himself) is left-handed? Sure, he fires that single-shot 20-gauge right-handed a few times in TED. And he also fires that levergun right-handed in AoD. So maybe he learned how to do a few things ambidextrously even before sawing off his hand off of demented do0m a go go. 27:00 There we go. Left-handed just like Link originally was. And there's the '73 Delta behind him, even! 27:57 Left-handed, firing one-handed, with a view over the right shoulder. That kinda works. I like the idea of playing as an ambidextrous character, being able to switch back and forth between hands, and also being able to switch back and forth between views over either shoulder. That would give the player a Soul Reaver level of control in this style of game. 28:47 Mike still hasn't learned how to do a proper "ice pick" grip technique with a single-edge blade (sharp edge should face out, not in). That's authentic to his character, though. 28:57 Notice the mirrored sprite. I won't complain about that since it fits with Sam Raimi's tendency to overuse the "flopping" film technique where directors mirror (or "flop") a scene because they think it improves continuity. The infamous basement scene from ED2 is a prime example of why it doesn't work. Sam talks about it in the commentary. In a director's mind, it improves continuity, but for the audience, it ruins it. Directors care more about which direction an actor is moving in successive scenes. The audience cares more about details being consistent. For example, which side of a character has which details. 29:25 Just like Soul Reaver!
I have Hail to the King on Dreamcast. It plays like the old Alone in the Dark games. It was brutally hard and I had to use my infinite health code to beat it. Fistful of Boomstick on Xbox plays good as FP hack n slash.
I love the Evil Dead movies but only played one of the games.. The only game I played was Regeneration. I remember renting it from Blockbuster and having fun with it.
9:15 I know that this music is a remixed version of a track from the Fistful of Boomstick game, but where did you find this? It sounds amazing and I'm thinking of using it for some of the battle music of a campaign I'm running with my mates.
The Sabre Interactive game had so much potential but was wasted without Chet, new maps and bosses and cut content that was seen in the trailer like the flamethrower.
That the thing about RE clones or survive the horror games back then, they kinda forgot replay value or new game plus features. As the OG RE game have those, if it's new outfits and starting with helpful gears/items, after beating the game. I don't know if any of these games ever get a remaster, but Fistful of boomstick did need some improvements on gameplay, and abit on "hand holding" or better guiding where to go. and better lighting as it's too dark.
It is tragic that those solid mechanics got wasted on an asymmetrical pvp game. Going for a single player style would have made that 2022 game a must buy.
regeneration is the best of the 3 in my opinion and i still love playing it yearly love evrything about it and wished it got more added or another game from the ending we got
YT never notifies me when you post new videos, but when a channel ive literally watched only one or two times i get notification everytime they upload. 🙄.
What a coincidence! I just beat Regeneration right as this video dropped. While it’s still fresh in my mind, I thought it was ok. Certainly the best game the franchise has to offer, but it still felt repetitive. Thankfully, the game ended right as I was losing interest. Still, it’s a decent game to bang out over the weekend. And Sam wasn’t so obnoxious. I like the fact that when he starts to get on your nerves, you can just kick him and he’ll shut up! He’s good for a chuckle when he’s not repeating his lines.
Evil Dead: The Game just feels like a missed opportunity. It's got the assets, but none of the style, dark comedy and horror of Evil Dead. Just another formulaic asymmetrical MP game that hides a lack of worthwhile gameplay loop behind licensed skins.

Born too late to own a house.
Born too early to explore the stars.
Born just in time to watch YungJunko talk about Evil Dead games for 30 minutes.
I interviewed one of Evil Dead Regeneration's designers some years back and he shared some interesting facts about Regeneration's development like:
-Ash's car was meant to be drivable, but it and its levels were cut
-The boss fights were meant to be more intricate, but had to be scaled back
-There were no plans for a sequel, they intentionally ended it on a cliffhanger to keep it in line with the open-ended nature of the films
Would've liked the car levels. Shame they were cut
That game is a fever dream
That game was a yearly replay for me- would loved car levels
Can’t forget the time when Ash took a break from hunting Deadites to play Poker with a talking dog
And a secret agent bodyguard...and a random robot.
Ash going back in time to the civil war era and leading a combined army of Union and confederate soldiers against hoards of undead is so WILD I can’t believe that’s real
Honest Abe could have handled the whole seceding from the union thing a lot quicker had he become Chainsaw Abe
@ if they let him be a vampire hunter I don’t see why they couldn’t let him do this too
The scariest part of Halloween is my son went missing. Has anybody seen him? His name is Every Star Wars game on N64 reviewed - YungJunko
Honorable mentions to games that feature or reference Ash from "Evil Dead":
- Broforce
- Poker Night 2
- Fortnite
- Dead By Daylight

Every time we get a junko video it’s a treat
I’m loving the stop motion/practical intros, you’re onto something here, keep it up!
A fistful of boomstick is one of my all time favorites
Also, Ash appears as one of the opposing players in Poker Night 2. His jokes and quips are as good as it gets. Highly recommend checking it out!
Saddly it wasn't voiced by Bruce Campbell but i'll give credit to the voice actor, he knows how to sound like him!
@Esitaro3670 Agreed, I had to look up if it really was Bruce or not. Danny Webber does an amazing impression.

I’m glad you made this video. Gman lives made a video crapping all over these games but I thought they were fun back in the day.

Junko, your content continues to impress tremendously. I will never unsub.
this is a fantastic video! lots that i didn't know. you've earned another subscriber. good shit!
Fun topic! Still love all the vids. The edits are as great as always! And now I need to go rewatch the excellent Ash Vs. Evil Dead.
Positive Vibes!
Ash landing into Manhattan 2149. And just takes all of the punishers weapons, and walking away while the punisher screams his name while he gets infected always makes me laugh. Love marvel zombies
Yessss another Junko upload! Now we need all the Halloween videos games in the next one haha great to see your videos man!
😂 "Hey aren't you the guy in the Human Spider 3?"
Great video Junko!
Really made me wanna check out Evil Dead: Regeneration. That game looks badass.
Happy Halloween, Junko 🎃
Absolutely love your work, Junko!
Dude Junko, someday we gotta have an all thumbs watch party where we watch the thumb movies. I love um!
Hail to the trash can king baby
