Having Manny Pacquiao run for President of the Philippines is like having Conor McGregor run for President of Ireland. It's funny, it's exciting, and it doesn't make any sense.
That's an ignorant comparison. Pacquiao has been elected a representative in his home state 12 years ago, and has served in both houses since then. He has become a colonel in the army, and earned a bachelor in political science. Tell me, what has McGregor done, why do you compare him?

Personality politics is still the name of the game in the Philippines. Filipinos view presidents as someone who is like a saviour. We should move away from this thinking and start voting for proper leaders from the presidency down to the barangay leaders. Although it is really hard to blame the Filipino citizenry because the system itself perpetuated weak political and voters education.
How though? As long as there are no _solid_ or _true_ political parties it would be impossible for the country to change as it would merely puppet the previous Congress in terms of membership, only now having more power and authority. But nonetheless, I see your point
The Filipino people in general tend to vote for personalities (which you mentioned) instead of policies. If the candidate is a nice person, they will vote for that person even if their policies are weak. I'm curious to know, what would you consider a "proper" leader?
@@Vatenkeist I don't think it would matter what type of government the Philippines implements if you have the same political dynasties running for leadership roles. IMHO, the solution is for people to stop voting for the same political clans running our country. We have complained about corruption for decades and yet the people keep voting for the candidates from the same political clans. Government positions are "handed down" from one family member to another. It's treated like a family business because this is how they enrich themselves, hence the massive corruption...and this is what's wrong with our government. Average Filipinos who actually have the passion to make changes for the better and help develop our country have very little to no chance of winning against well established political dynasties.
In a parliamentary system you vote for party, the words "buntot mo hila mo" sounds true in that system. Even if someone is popular if the fielded candidate of his party stink it will drag them down. No amount of popularity can save an individual in a sinking ship. It wasn't the end all be all solution but it is better than the current system.

Yes. I don't know how or why people constantly throw him out of the picture. From the basic information we have from the history books, he was a good president. He even opened the Malacañang to common folk just so he can hear their problems. Sucks that nobody tried to be like him.

I don't understand why most foreign news outlets are portraying Marcos, Robredo and Pacquiao as the 3 major candidates wherein Isko Moreno was the one trailing at 3rd place in the recent polls (2nd in some polls). Shouldn't it be Marcos, Robredo and Moreno that these foreign news outlets be focusing on since they are the frontrunners and have a more probable chance of victory instead of Paqicuao?
@@jamesdean3352 I think you're missing the point here. Foreign news must tell foreigners about the most probable to win candidates instead of the most popular candidates.
@Anime Yaballo Foreign News doesn't talk about them because they are trying to simplify things for a Foreign/International audience in order to make them at least understandable. Only few outside of the Philippines knows who Isko Moreno is so bringing him up would make more questions than it answers. Bongbong was brought up because he was the front runner and also because of his families history (which is one of the points of the video?), Robredo was mentioned because she is in the second place (as well as being opposition leader), while Pacquiao was brought up because of his boxing career.

The reason why Filipinos are taking the risk to re-elect the son of a "dictator" is because after Marcos was removed, the new government failed to do what they Promised to do,and that is to make the Philippines a great country.
Yup, and that is something NOT to be proud of. Filipinos should not bring the Marcoses back to power just because of the failed promises after EDSA. The country has continuously suffered because of Filipinos repeatedly electing the wrong President after the EDSA Revolution. But, that does NOT mean Filipinos should bring that dynasty back to power since the abuses from that dynasty is what has caused the revolution.

Duterte has improved infrastructure, somewhat made the country safe by killing thousands from his drug war. They've both done great things but the awful things they've done out weigh the good.
So why DW's correspondent is politically biased against Marcoses? News should be politically neutral and should not take any sides. The Philippines is a democratic country so if the people's choice is Marcos..which it seems to be imminent given his wide lead points to a landslide win... then let the people decide so democracy will take its course. It is also false reporting that only those born after the Martial Law are voting for Marcos, as there are many senior citizens, who have experienced Martial Law, are voting for Marcos. Best for news sites to report objectively and not politized news.
People outside the Philippines should have observed just by reading on a LOT of comments the kind of online machinery that the Marcoses have just to revise and alter history for their benefit. This is also a testament to the huge ill-gotten wealth that they still have, and yet to be returned to Philippine coffers.
Or maybe Filipinos have stopped believing the Aquinos' version of history. And please, just because your bet is behind the surveys you start labeling Marcos supporters as part of their "online machinery". lol Should I remind you who's boosting who on Facebook, who's paying young Tiktok creators to praise a certain candidate, which Philippine presidential candidate is being voted on Facebook by accounts from India, Vietnam, and some other foreign nationals and by newly-made accounts? lol
You said it. Robredo will become a puppet for the Liberal Party. That's what our youth are believing. They're believing that Leni has done a lot not knowing that she is just taking advantage of things just because we're in a middle of pandemic. I can't fathom the fact that they easily believe informations in social media and mainstream media. Try to look on the ground and you'll know what is really happening to each average Filipino.
@@junouno1363 Wow, did I ever said the Aquinos? Is the Liberal Party only revolving around the Aquinos? Am I implicating that the whole liberal party would be the one that'll take control of Robredo, am I not? That's so typical of you tbh. Lol.
I love how this news is delivered to the world. It's literally roasted the historical revisions of the pro marcos. How foolish are those Filipino people who are literate but still supported the marcos whose minds are overshadowed by their fanaticism?
Political fanaticism (both far left and far right) destroyed all aspects in the Philippines even its industries and sectors. Those fanaticisms were mainly driven by their overseas workers who worked abroad as slaves by foreigners. Also the Overseas Filipino Workers also prayed that the Philippines remained poor in order to have huge profit due to high exchange rate. Talked about self interests and greed.
The former President Marcos was NOT a dictator. He was the best president the country ever had followed by Duterte. His son will win by landslide because Filipinos are tired of the opposition’s 30-year leadership failure due to rampant corruption that caused rise of poverty and lack of peace and order. The young is the answer to make the Philippines great again. Unless you live in the Philippines and a Filipino yourself, you will be easily be brainwashed by these kinds of journalists who pretend they know anything about days of Martial Law which is not as bad as the media projected to the world. Please do your thorough research of facts.

The truth is people in the Philippines felt 1986 constitution after marcos did not brought any economic progress for the past 36 years. Older people who live during Marcos Sr. view his regime as better compare to his successors down the line. Thus, their opinion become the reflection of the younger generation, that is why Marcos Jr. have a commanding lead in the surveys. Mainstream media in the Philippines always portray those who in favor of Marcoses as uninformed and easy to sway but the fact is, people always want a strong leader in persona of Marcos Sr. That's why Duterte won despite lack of fund in 2016. Oppositon failed to accept the truth on the ground and chose motherly persona of Leni Robredo, opposition may have a better lead in the survey if they chose Ping Lacson ( the former Police Chief) over Robredo which is a replicate of Cory Aquion (the widow of Ninoy Aquino, the rival of Marcos Sr. assassinate by the Reds but blamed to Marcos by the oligarchs to overthrow him).
@ 6:21 what do you mean guise , we wanted it as we want imperial manila gone and want to decentralize the country to make more growth opportunities in the other parts of the country instead of it being focused in the capital. I still remember Du30 saying hes ready to step down early of the federalization of the country would be passed. Its not a guise to stay longer in power, rather a legit objective to change the constitution for the betterment of the country as this wil provide more power to regions to implement economic policies of their own and their tax revenues mostly stay within their borders, hence they wont need a budget from the central government in imperial manila etc.
given that we, as a country, are obviously divided by dialect and culture, and NCR is just profiting off of the resources provided by other regions, federalization is probably the answer. it's not even a matter of land mass. just let the regions be states and let them do their on thing. i'm sick of manila having it all while the rest struggle.

Parliamentary is one of the solution to this, by how much we wont know until ph tries

"Personalities...and Political Dynasties"
As a Filipino watching DW News for a while now, I really envied the German politics and its party-centered elections, parliament/house lawmakers with doctorates, and a well-informed electorate, with even a textbook party system embodying the Political Spectrum; nothing like our country at all. In short, SANA OL!
omg sana ol. we deserve the government we elect talaga
Wala talaga tayong good na choice
Wala tayong no choice
Yes the politics here doesn't rely on the given political spectrum. They're basically the same coin but with different sides
Then let's start by having the German Model:
1. Use of Parliamentary System
(vs PHL Presidential)
2. Federal Territorial Administration
(vs PHL Unitary)
3. An economy NOT hostile to Foreign Direct Investments (PHL has article 12 "National Patrimony" in the current constitution)
REVISING THE CHARTER (Constitution) actually kick starts these 3.
Sana All Germany.

But he did so NOT because he wanted to hold-on to power. Rather, Pres. Duterte coming from Mindanao (where the poorest provinces in the PH are located) wants to de-centralize the government (thru Federalism) because currently, the power and money of the PHL government, including the development plan of the entire country is held and decided upon almost entirely by Metro Manila (the capital region). @@napoleonbonaparte1260 yeah 2016 is most exciting one cause right now we have a clear winner
@@napoleonbonaparte1260 Nah for me 2022 is the most exciting because many man and woman babies will gonna cry.

The host is misinformed!
Go marcos. Go BBM laban 2022
Here comes the toxic commentators.
Suggest to the watchers, DONT read the comments. Will give you a highblood.
you should have suggested not to let them watch the video in the first place.
Never with marcos and Duterte again! Lord pls give us a leader who is God fearing.
Filipinos people love Ferdinand Marcos ❤️
We always support Marcos 🇵🇭
Yuck
The most stolen wealth in the world was based on accusation, that the Marcoses won in court in the US. So that statement is already irrelevant.
Isn't it funny how BongBong Marcos was held in contempt by a U.S. court in Hawaii in 2011 and effectively banned from stepping in U.S. soil?
@@wesscat also don't forget switzerland, they stated that the marcoses are not welcome there lol
Bong bong Marcos sure win this year
This Filipino journalist knows little about the proposed amendment, instead reinserting a speculation on the issue of term limits.
Because he is a journalist, not a political analyst.
If I will run for Presidency, the first Im gonna do is to give people a purchasing power by raising their salary around Php1k minimum and lower the taxes collected to companies. This way it is guaranteed the general public will benefit for all the tax collected. I'll hire a professionals to do the infrastructures that will save the government with high maintenance and prevent substandard projects the government will hire private consultants or auditors to audit the projects. I will push for charter change that the president will only have 3 years per term and can run twice by doing this we can prevent corruption brewing in because they font have time to commit any corrupt practices. the people have the right to decide the president's career path if he will stay for another 3 yrs or not. I will add financial branch to government to prohibit the president's unlimited access to Public funds that's how corruption started because the funds is being held solely by the President. As you can see now no one in Presidentiables ever have a concrete stand on how they can make the government better. They can see that the constitution has many flaws but never step a foot to correct them. As long the level of illiteracy in Philippines is high, there is now way we can achieve unity just like BBM's slogan. The illiteracy clearly define on this coming election that the majority will still vote for the the person whose family known for corruption for 20 years and reign terror among the Filipinos. The 20 years of warrantless arrest and torture. In economics, they forcibly acquire the corporation that will end up being bancrupt due to incompetence. Most of Filipinos didn't know that since as I've said for being iliterate. Nasa dugo kase natin ang pagiging slave since 400 years tyo na occupy and thanks sa matatapang nating mga bayani pero sa panahon ni marcos naulit uli ang oppression. habang buhay na mangmang ang mga Pilipino or manhid.
