This anime was possibly the greatest example of having fantastic settings, spectacular monsters, and relatable characters, while still not knowing how to tell a good story. Don’t get me wrong, it started great, but the middle and ending were extremely disappointing.
I think it's also partially due to fans having expectations of how the classic monsters were going to be showcased. The prequel novel and movie directions already made it clear that they wanted to try something new.
Movie 1 concept: "Humanity escapes earth due to constant monster attacks. upon returning, can we take it back?" Actual Movie 1: "Haruo is an angry boi and gets everyone killed." Movie 2 concept: "Mechagodzilla is now a nanometal city. Can this lost technology finally defeat Godzilla?" Actual Movie 2: "Haruo is a very angry boi and gets everyone killed." Movie 3 concept: "Ghidorah's summoning ritual is complete. Can Godzilla save the earth from an eldritch abomination that may even over power him?" Actual movie 3: "Haruo is SUCH an angry boi he kills himself." I'm not saying the movies didn't have great ideas, but the whole "no monster battles" really made them hurt.
Couldn't have said it better. I was so hoping this trilogy would be amazing, but I was so disappointed. I liked the first 2, but this last one just didn't do it for me.
@@smars1161 The two prequel books are stellar and honestly make a vastly more interesting series of events with more and more monsters showing up and showcasing how Godzilla is something so much more advanced than anything else. I don't mind a strong human storyline or some of the clashes the humans get into. Vs Biollante is one of my favorite of all Godzilla films, but it's also neatly spliced up with 5 distinct and satisfying events with Godzilla; the first being the battle out at sea vs the military. the second is his battle with the Super X 2, third is the battle with Biollante first form, fourth is Godzilla vs the ANEB team, and the fifth is Godzilla vs the TC system and Biollante's second form. That said, if you take away basically all those Godzilla scenes or drastically shorten them, the human plot isn't likely to keep you riveted or wanting to come back for something wholly unique, which is what these three movies sadly lean towards.
Same here. It keeps the main silhouette of Ghidorah, but makes it more alien and freaky. I don’t really hate how the anime trilogy changed things up, since it was an interesting new take on the Godzilla Mythos. I actually like the idea of Void Ghidorah being a “completely different Godzilla”, especially because of how it implies that Godzilla could eventually reach a similar level of eldritch power. I kind of wish we got an actual battle between the two, but there was just no way it could happen with how powerful Ghidorah was in comparison to Godzilla, not if they wanted Godzilla to have a chance of winning.
@@Kaijufan360 I think that’s the point. It’s meant to evoke awe and terror, kind of like the idea of Lovecraft’s work (Cthulhu and his like). After all, this is a higher-dimensional life form, whose mere presence in this dimension would have destroyed all of Earth if he fully manifested. It’s beyond humanity in every way, so why should it look nice to us?
Honestly this version of Ghidorah is one of the most terrifying monsters I've ever come across not because of it's appearance or size but because no matter what you try you can't fight back because everything will just phase through him.
This version of Ghidorah actually achieved more than just a "monster" word. Just like metphies said, it's the god of demise, the golden destruction. The most terrifying thing I've ever known:)

First we had king ghidorah, a powerful rival of Godzilla that he often had to team up with other monsters to defeat. Then we had Kaizer ghidorah, a creature that made even millennium Godzilla fall to his knees and need life saving help to defeat, and now we literally have a god from another dimension that even the strongest Godzilla to exist can’t touch. Ghidorah is a monster that truly has no end, most incarnations being stronger than the last to match Godzilla no matter what abilities he has under his arsenal, and this is why I love Ghidorah, the thing is a monster among monsters
I did find this version of Ghidorah really fascinating. Too bad all he did was bite Godzilla. I really wanted to see these two bastards flex their muscles of power more. Disappointing anime but it sure had one of the most interesting versions of the monsters.
grant langkamp I think if ghidorah absorbed all of Godzilla’s energy until the latter dies, then ghidorah would’ve literally used all of his power (combined with Godzilla’s energy) to destroy the universe in one shot. (It’s my thoughts)
This version is basically what happens when you ask how exactly the Showa King Ghidorah's statements of "destroying worlds" could be feasibly accomplished.
I have to say, this version of ghidorah was simultaneously one of the best, and also most disappointing. This was the anime's last chance to deliver on the promise of a giant monster showdown and it failed horribly at the last minute
These movies tried to be thought provoking thematic pieces and as a result, jettisoned any monster battles. My problem is that they never had to only pick one option. They could’ve done both. GMK for example has plenty of monster battles, but it’s also a meaningful allegory for nuclear destruction with plenty of disturbing moments. G14 has monster battles but it still still says something about humanities place in the universe and how no matter how strong we are we can never control nature. Hell look at Evangelion, it had giant monster fights and it still told a thematically meaningful story. It’s not as if they couldn’t have tried to please all the fans with a little extra work.
Its not a problem that they didn't do it, the problem is that they advertised them as "Godzilla facing up against Mechagodzilla or King Ghidorah" and then dont do anything with it. They say how terrible Godzilla was and how he killed all the other monsters and wiped out humanity but we dont see it, we have to take their word for it

The ideas are amazing. A sentient Mechagodzilla city, a god-like Godzilla, a literal multiverse god Ghidorah? These were amazing. Honestly, if the anime trilogy used these ideas properly, It would've made it look better. The only reason I like the trilogy was Godzilla.
@@feralchangeling97 The difference is that Ghidorah doesn't have a very fucked up design. Like the way how Azathoth and Nyarlathotep look like. Both gods look so disgusting and hard to describe and Ghidorah in this movie looks like a kaiju normally looks.
You can't fight this thing, it's no longer a monster, it's on the same level as True Darkseid and Galactus, a few tiers below the outer gods of the Cthulhu Mythos.
I’ve been having this theory in my mind for a while. Ever since I looked up the timelines for the Godzilla anime. Godzilla earth’s actions always seem to be the most hostile and intense whenever a perceived greater threat appears. When humanity was clashing well against other monsters and were killing them he suddenly appeared to attack them. When hundreds of nukes were dropped on him he doubled down on attacking cities. Then, when humanity allied with the bilusaludo and exif, Godzilla became even more aggressive and practically drove what was left of humanity along with the aliens off the planet. As it turns out the bilusaludo like to assimilate everything with nanometal and the exif were a death cult for ghidorah. So my theory was what if Godzilla somehow was able to perceive and anticipate dangers on the planet and wiped out civilization in defense of the planet and it’s residents? Cause after he wiped out the fleet in the 1st movie, destroyed mechagodzilla city and defeated Ghidorah he doesn’t go out of his way to hunt down the hotua and seeking out mothra’s egg.
That's why the Houtua see Godzilla as more of a force of nature than a malevolent threat. By accepting him as that, the humans and Godzilla now live in peace.
You are correct. It would actually make sense if we think about it. Godzilla knew of humanity’s foolish actions on the earth lead to endangered species and pollution and global warming. So he attacked humanity to eliminate these actions. When the Exif and the Bilusaludo came to earth, he began attacking the United Earth more directly, as if he was aware of the Exif and the Bilusaludo’s true intentions: to sacrifice and assimilate the earth for ghidorah and mechagodzilla. So he was only trying to stop destruction from being inevitable for earth.
the movies has a stupid anti-development message they wanted it to end with all technology (mecha godzilla) destroyed because science and transhumanism is bad and humanity as a bunch of tribal slaves to Mothra and Godzilla because in the head of stupid primitivist deathists humans should be slaves to nature and never aspire to be anything else
This was such a great idea wasted godzilla a planet full of monster but no again it's just mechagodzilla, mothra and king ghidorah God sake go to we love those three but please use others in your huge back catalogue of kaiju
I don't know if I'm right, but I noticed something. The "noodle" necked Ghidorah can also have a lot of chinese/japanese culture influence. Chinese/Oriental Dragons are divine beings (Which matches with Ghidorah being a "God") which existence is so divine, transcendent and powerful that the world bends to their will and power just because they exist (Like Ghidorah bending space-time, gravity and reality just with his mere presence alone). Plus, his color is gold and brilliant, like a god. His long neck design is also pretty similar to Chinese Dragons. Theres also the obvious inspiration in Lovecraf (Eldritch, higher-dimensional monsters beyond our comprehension). Thas just my interpretation of the concept, which is good on paper but got executed pretty badly.
I’m not going to lie: seeing Ghidorah’s arrival, from the killer shadows to the destruction of the ship, is quite possibly the scariest scene I’ve ever seen in the franchise. The creepiest, to me, is the ending scene of Shin Godzilla.
A lot of people mock this design for being just long noodle necks and heads, but keep in mind- this is a version of Ghidorah that was ment to be very different from the regular Ghidorah design, and all the evidences suggest that this might actually be the most powerful version of Ghidorah to appear so far in the Godzilla franchise. This is a being that evolved into something so powerful, that it dosen't even need to display his full body to show how much powerful he is. If you ask me...when Void Ghidorah makes an Alpha roar like in King of The Monsters...all the other versions of Ghidorah will bow before him.
So Metphies' plan all along was to help the humans escape Godzilla by fleeing Earth, then help them establish a society in space, then return to Earth literally thousands of years later to SUCCESSFULLY kill Godzilla, which will make the giant Godzilla Earth who just happened to be underground on that very spot emerge so he can offer that giant Godzilla to Ghidorah? That is one convoluted plan. Even though Metphies seemed as surprised as everyone else when the giant Godzilla emerged he somehow had this master plan in place that spanned millennia? But he couldn't foresee that Haruo would take his eyes out.
jacking the black thing did he know about mechagodzilla city too? He was supporting that second plan until the end there when he made haruo blow up the place. Vain blonde pansy, world was gonna die anyway he just wanted his precious noodle to finish the job?
Greater Grievobeast 55 what I think is that metphies wanted haruo to destroy MechaGodzilla so that ghidorah can destroy Godzilla. Maybe metphies and the Exif were waiting for humanity to be brainwashed to their religion during the 21st century, but they weren’t expecting humanity to abandon earth. Metphies could’ve decided to wait until humanity would decide to return to earth to fight Godzilla to take back the planet. It was all a giant plan for ghidorah to eliminate earth, but maybe when metphies met haruo, the former realized that the latter could have the capability to make ghidorah a divine reality within this universe to destroy the universe for them. Metphies probably wanted Galu-Gu and the Bilusaludo out of the picture so ghidorah could destroy earth himself (Because the Bilusaludo had their own plans for earth in the form of MechaGodzilla).
Void Ghidorah: There is nothing you can do to me! Humans: We have Mothra, an equally powerful deity! Void Ghidorah: *mockingly* And what does she do? Humans: She destroys imaginary planes! ✈️ Void Ghidorah: OH NO! MY ONLY WEAKNESS!! *fockin' dies* Did anyone else expect a good battle?
The anime is so frustrating, the concepts for all the monsters were amazing and had so much potential but they dropped the ball so hard with all of those concepts to an almost legendary degree. Like this should have been the best Ghidorah hands down but the best they came up with after that epic entrance was making him just an inter-dimensional claw machine... So disappointing.
I loved this interpretation of Ghidorah! It had the same level of malevolence and dread that the Showa had when it first appeared on screens, mixed in with new abilities! It's potentially the only Ghidorah that could have killed Godzilla practically effortlessly without human intervention!
I'd say he was even more malevolent, he practically enslaved a race of aliens to scout out planets to eat, and seemed to enjoy taking his time tormenting the arratrum before eating it.
@@Tenebrio-Morio I would agree. To me, the movie also implied that this version of Ghidorah might have been capable of telepathic enslavement or even possession. WAY more powerful than any other Ghidorah could hope for!
I feel like this Ghidorah would've been way scarier if he had lived up to his legacy and stopped having ridiculously exploitable weak points and using weak attacks to attack Godzilla.
Actually I don't think he's that strong, he seems invincible (and he basically is) but when you cut his link to the exief priest in charge, he becomes quite weak
Keizer wasn't even the strongest beforehand anyway. Anime Ghidorah IS the strongest, he can warp and manipulate space and time, make reality itself eroded, has a literal black hole as a portal, can travel to and from higher and lower dimensions, and is higher dimensional in and of itself. Only way he becomes weak is when you break the stone. But if you don't figure that out you are fucked.

I could go on but a one off statement made to hype up the character isn't enough evidence to prove it.
Oh thank god this came out! I was so confused about Ghidorah's backstory but thanks to this video I finally understand now! Thank you so much for the helpful information!
This incarnation of King Ghidorah is really cool and I thought the cosmic horror elements were a nice addition. I just wish the fight between him and Godzilla was more epic.
Man! This anime trilogy continues disappoint. Ghidorah's silhouette is awesome, and winged. His actual design is three separate neon glowing serpents. Mothra shows up for a quick cameo in a separate dreamworld vision. No thanks.
@@thenumbah1birdman Yup. I understand that. I just think it's lame. I'm saying all we see is essentially the 3 separate entities popping out from what basically amounts to ACME holes. No thanks.
Aaron Nicewonger I really wanted this trilogy to be good I love these Godzilla monster designs and the CGI looks badass the atmosphere and the lighting look beautiful and introduce us to new monsters (sorta) the thing that bothered me in this story is that why does a human or small alien (I don't know) have to control the monster why can't it fight on its own and yes I know not from this dimension or some stupid shit also a bead really?! That's what's used to control a 3 headed planet destroying lightning firing Godzillas number one enemy just why also when the beed was in control of (character I don't remember or care about) ghadorah was impossible to beat but when the beat was broken ghaorah was killed in 5 seconds NO! Ghadorah should be this powerful monster destroyer of worlds feared by many toughest monster yet NOT SOME LONG NOODLES CONTROLED BY ONE LITTLE BEET.bassicly I don't hate the anime trilogy it's not that bad it's a meh I give it a 5/10 but I did not like this movie.
Ghidorah: time to eat thi- *sees Godzilla* oh it’s you Godzilla: hmm you seemed to have changed old friend Ghidorah: yes, higher dimensions do seem to have more power, but enough talk, have at you *fight scene happens and the bead gets destroyed* Ghidorah: what happened, why can he touch me now Godzilla: *Omae Wa Mu Shindeiru* Ghidorah: *NANI* Godzilla: *Blast Ghidorah back into his own dimension*
Oh my god, I got it. The focus monster of each of the parts is associated with one of the civilizations. Godzilla is the humans, Mechagodzilla is the Bilusaludo, and King Ghidorah is the Exif.
The cool thing is, this Ghidorah isn’t even dead yet. Just lacking a way to enter this dimension. The intangible avatar attacking Godzilla was more of like a video game character to him. Just shows you the sheer power of this Ghidorah.
I wanted this series to be so much more. I wanted to see flocks of Rodan flying around, Herds of Baragon. A mountain sized Godzilla standing over them all. Instead we got... a slow moving Godzilla that you can’t really tell is all that big because hardly anything is ever in the same shot with it.
This version of Ghidorah might be the most eerie of all kaiju, and quite possibly also the most evil as he destroys entire planets. A shame he was not shown in full body to fully cement how enormous he was even compared to Godzilla.
To be honest the lore and story behind the monsters are really really interesting and amazing I just wish the anime Trilogy movies just had a better fights
As much as I think the anime is disappointing I do like what they did with ghidorah of how he is a god and is ruled by fear. Even the fact of how humans and godzilla both needed to slay ghidorah. The anime still was disappointing and expanded timeline would have been a much better anime.
Ok I know Monster Island Buddies haven't make a fun of Ghidorah yet if he did I want him do like this Metphies be like Galvertron/Silver Surfer Ghidorah be like Galactus/Unicron
Ever since I first saw this version on Netflix, I envision Anime Ghidorah as the progenitor to many other Ghidorah like King Ghidorah, Keizer Ghidorah, Desghidorah, GMK Ghidorah, and Rebirth of Mothra Ghidorah.
I love the metaphysical and analogies to Gidorah being a true god. It's a great design and concept, and really captures what Gidorah is all about while still putting some twists on it. My only issues are that he doesn't shoot lightning/gravity beams at Godzilla at the end when he's blasting them, and they missed a chance to have Mothra and Gidorah fight in Haruo's dreams (could've symbolized the two voices in his head trying to convince him one way or the other).
I know this is late, but speaking of voices, I plan on becoming a director or writer and create a new Godzilla series and this one would have some of the kaiju have telepathic voices (like Mothra, MechaGodzilla, Battra, and King Ghidorah)
This honestly is my favorite version of Ghidorah since his first appearance in The Three Headed Monster Anime Ghidorah is so terrifying and OP, yet still has a weakness, which makes him so good

This movie would have been 10x better if after Menphis is stopped and Ghidorahs heads retract, an even larger portal opens and Ghidorahs full body enters our world to fight Godzilla on an even playing field, just imagine Ghidorah making his heads elongate toward Godzilla at a rapid speed and Godzilla attempting to snipe them only for the heads to evade, and Godzilla to realize he has to go for the body and beats him via manhandling him, then blasting him with his atomic breathe back into the portal, literally just replace 3 minutes of talking with a decent fight scene and I would have been contempt.
This Ghidorah is theorised to be around 20 km in size. Godzilla Earth is completely dwarfed by him, being only 300m tall. Realistically, Ghidorah would absolutely destroy Godzilla Earth even when brought to our dimension. That said, I still think it would've made for a better conclusion. Perhaps Godzilla starts getting beat down, his permeable shield breaking down under a lightning-storm/barrage of Ghidorah's gravity beams. However, the Houtua Mothra finally hatches from its egg and distracts Ghidorah. Godzilla Earth could then start maybe getting power from the Earth, using the plants with his DNA to gain power. Haruo, noticing this, would get on the last Vulture suit and join Mothra in fighting Ghidorah. Ghidorah, of course, eventually pins the two down with his three heads and gravitational abilities. But before he can finish them of, Godzilla Earth does a red-spiral ray, bursting through Ghidorah's chest and killing the God of the Void (G-Earth did destroy a massive asteroid coming for Earth in the prequel novels, so he could do this.) The explosion kills Godzilla, as he is at its centre. Haruo also may die, since his Vulture really wouldn't help him. Mothra would survive, being a Kaiju and also far away from the explosion's centre, and would return to the Houtua caves, where the rest of the humans somehow survive. The story would end with Mothra and the humans living in the new Earth, and another Godzilla Filius appearing, but not attacking the Houtua, symbolising a peaceful coexistence between humanity, the Houtua, Mothra, and Godzilla.

Well if ghidorah showed his true power earth would have been erased and our universe too probably as ghidorah is a higher dimensional being
Ghidorah using his powers means the end of everything

This version is basically what happens when you ask how exactly the Showa King Ghidorah's statements of "destroying worlds" could be feasibly accomplished.
yup
I have to say, this version of ghidorah was simultaneously one of the best, and also most disappointing. This was the anime's last chance to deliver on the promise of a giant monster showdown and it failed horribly at the last minute
Who said that this trilogy is about monster showdown?
@James Schulte well thats a bold move for something with the name Planet of Monsters at its head.

In other words godzilla earth is a new definition of mother nature
In other words, this is a very high quality and hard to see tracing paper on Legendary.
Fully evolved shin godzilla vs this ghidorah
Wait what was the problem with letting Ghidorah kill Godzilla?
If it did, it would destroy earth as well.
Yeah
It's kinda like trying to get rid of a tank by launching three nukes at it
the movies has a stupid anti-development message they wanted it to end with all technology (mecha godzilla) destroyed because science and transhumanism is bad and humanity as a bunch of tribal slaves to Mothra and Godzilla because in the head of stupid primitivist deathists humans should be slaves to nature and never aspire to be anything else

I love XAI’s “Live and Die”.

This is my favorite version of Ghidorah. Unfortunately his potential was entirely wasted.
I thought they made Ghidorah really scary in this film, and his music was really good and fit the scary tone that was set up.
'noodle' dragon is also the version of divine dragon from eastern culture, the west doesnt get it
So Metphies' plan all along was to help the humans escape Godzilla by fleeing Earth, then help them establish a society in space, then return to Earth literally thousands of years later to SUCCESSFULLY kill Godzilla, which will make the giant Godzilla Earth who just happened to be underground on that very spot emerge so he can offer that giant Godzilla to Ghidorah?
That is one convoluted plan. Even though Metphies seemed as surprised as everyone else when the giant Godzilla emerged he somehow had this master plan in place that spanned millennia?
But he couldn't foresee that Haruo would take his eyes out.
Gematron calculations.
@@Tenebrio-Morio He actually knew that Godzilla would reamerge, remember Gamatron calculation allows the Exif to predict he future
i guess he didn't SEE that one coming
jacking the black thing did he know about mechagodzilla city too?

I like that his gravity powers affected time. You don't see that in fiction very often.
This ghidorah is definitely the strongest in the ghidorah group even stronger than keizer ghidorah!
Actually I don't think he's that strong, he seems invincible (and he basically is) but when you cut his link to the exief priest in charge, he becomes quite weak
TheBlackyFiction that’s facts
Keizer wasn't even the strongest beforehand anyway.
Anime Ghidorah IS the strongest, he can warp and manipulate space and time, make reality itself eroded, has a literal black hole as a portal, can travel to and from higher and lower dimensions, and is higher dimensional in and of itself. Only way he becomes weak is when you break the stone. But if you don't figure that out you are fucked.

My only issues are that he doesn't shoot lightning/gravity beams at Godzilla at the end when he's blasting them, and they missed a chance to have Mothra and Gidorah fight in Haruo's dreams (could've symbolized the two voices in his head trying to convince him one way or the other).

This and Godzilla Earth are like when the kid and bully meet each other when they have different paths of their lifes
I regret watching the aniGoji movies, I really do. Nothing but perpetual misery and an arbitrary Godzilla.
approx 4 wasted hours
Same. Too much human drama, angry boy, and in the end Godzilla lived and they had to co live with him
myriaidee1sessh43 I’m honestly fine with the human drama and the ending of this trilogy.
I understand the criticism and hate the trilogy gets but i loved all 3, i thought the plot was different and loved how they executed it. Both versions of Godzilla and Ghidorah here definitely brings a new perspective on my outlook of the Toho universe! I hope SP and this get more!
By the way, The Night Feeder from the show Primal uses the Anime Ghidorah's roars.
When I heard 'Ghidorah' in the previous movie,I was shocked!!!!
Now that I've seen it,I don't know whether to be impressed or disappointed.
Reasons:1)This Ghidorah's looks massive,unique and terrifying.
2)No kaiju battle
Y e s. Easliy one of my favorite versions of Ghidorah.
*so he IS higher dimensional. That's what i thought.*
Also he *vores* planets, that's an auto W already 😎😎😎
Actually I think he just causes it to explode like he did with the station.
@@anomaly2652 I don’t think so. I think the planet simply “disappears” (thanos style).
I think ghidorah would black hole it and just let nothing escape when he destroys something
Why didn’t Haruo just let Ghidorah kill Godzilla and *THEN* stop Metphis’s ritual?
Because then who’s gonna stop Ghidorah?
Obese tree fights silly vampire pool noodles
Meanwhile guy breaks another guy's eye
Causing Obese tree to attack said Pool Noodles
This anime is silly wacky funny
0:19 song?
Say what you want. But Live and Die is a phenomenal song and so is the song after the battle is over (it’s in Japanese)
Imagine if he appears in Godzilla Singular point
When you and your bros are invading and see a yummy plant
*Bidididi intensifies*
Finally thank you for marking this Monster
Ghidorah was such a lovecraftian concept. A 4th dimensional like being, twisting gravity and space time around it. Brilliant concept of a monster revered as a king or god, confusing execution with it being inter-dimensional and made of energy.
