You can only do so much when a landlord doesn't want a total repair done. With those 5 gallon tanks, he probably wonders why the water bill is so high.
You made the best of a bad situation. At least it won't rock or leak. Believe it or not, that is a first generation 1.6 gallon toilet, an early '90's Kohler Wellworth Lite. I foolishly installed one of them after I had the bathroom floor replaced in early 1994. What a mistake!! Paper would ball up at the drain opening so it always needed a plunger. Needless to say, I got rid of that awful toilet after about 6 months of putting up with it. The tank does hold a lot of water, but there was a sponge float midway up the flapper chain that made the flush valve close quickly. I think that the flapper in your video got replaced with one that allows the entire tank to dump when the toilet is flushed.
Have you ever done an OG job of a plaster base for the toilet, I haven't but a shit show to demo afterwards probably, toilet looks like Al Bundys Ferguson "BAH WOOSH" manly toilet.
