I feel like this dog came to you when you were doing huge mile days. I feel like his purpose is to allow you to slow down and enjoy the nature around you. He pulled you down to the water when you were walking past it and you had to stop and really take it in. You two are a perfect match. Even if it's not long term your paths crossing is definitely purposeful. You were also talking in previous videos about how it's sad you meet people and because you're not pushing same miles or have the same plans you can't continue on together then boom this boy comes into your life and you're not alone anymore. ❤️❤️❤️ LOVE YOUR VIDEOS! ENJOY EVERY SECOND OF THIS ADVENTURE!
Tally absolutely stole your heart! Even if you find his owner now, you know you would be an amazing dog mom and maybe when you get home you can find a oerfect hiking pup. You are a genuine, kind heart. ❤️
This is my favorite video. I love seeing you go from stressed and negative because you didnt like dogs, to being head over heels for this dog. Dogs are really healing. You will make a GREAT dog owner whether you get to keep this one or not.
I’ve just been watching your videos for a short while but this is the happiest you’ve seemed in all the videos. Have the vet check for a microchip, get him fully vaccinated, heart worm, flea meds and eventually spayed. He’s going to want to roam just because of his breed but also because he’s in tact. I’d recommend taking a sharpie and putting your phone number on his collar in case you get separated. Best of luck to both you and Mr Talisman
The transformation from anxiety to joy on your face the last two videos has been really interesting! Whether or not the owners eventually connect with you or not, I hope you have a positive experience and enjoy your time on trail with Tally!
I know I'm way behind, but OMG, you have a dog and you're doing wonderfully! I hope Tally stays with you. You're obviously a dog person, and that's definitely your dog. I absolutely love it!! That is SO your pup!
What joy Tally brings to you, Stella. Continue your journey and continue to be a dog mom. Bringing him to vet is a wise idea. Wishing you the best. Forever onward young lady and Tallyho😊🐶👍
Wow, watching you and your new hiking companion and hearing the Joy in your voice and watching him enjoying the trail beside you is really Trail Magic !
This reminds me SO much of another RUclipsr I love to watch, Nikki Delventhal and her dog Camper! Camper “found” her while she was hiking on a trail in Arizona I believe, and had been with her ever since! ❤ Believe me, somehow, someway, Tally knew you needed him. You seem so happy!!!
Awww! I can't believe how quickly you bonded! I can tell you are so excited and happy with him around. For someone who "doesn't have any experience with dogs" (I think that's what you said?) you seemed to have picked it up pretty quickly! I'm looking forward to watching your journey together! 🥰
I love everything about this video ! A dogs love is unconditional, he found you and he knew you needed him. The trail does provide !!!!! Cherish every moment you get with him. This makes me soooo happy ! Keep on trucking 🤍🤍 Edge ✌🏼
If I was a dog owner and lost my dog, I would hope and pray that he would find someone like you to bestow the same compassion you are providing to Tally. Thank you for caring for this lost pup and sharing this experience with us. He is just what you adventure needed 😇😇
I don't want to be the "Debby Downer" but that's a hunting dog and I'm sure someones looking for it by now. Those dogs can go from $1000 up to $5000 easily. In most rural areas like the smokies there's no leash law and people let their dogs roam free. This dog is probably use to getting feed on the trail since it's so heavily walked by hikers. He knows their carrying food. I'm just looking for Stella's best interest here. Besides a hound dog can be quite the hand-full to own if you're not familiar with them. Love your videos please don't block me. Stay safe out there. 😇❤🤍💙
I have to agree here. You never made any calls to the animal shelters, local neighbors, but Facebook? I've hiked around the area and there is always some hunting dog that follows hikers and then heads home. He looks well-cared for and most likely the other dog he was with was from the same owner.
Looks like nature gave you a companion to share your journey! Look around yourself out there, nature gives you exactly what you need when you need it...even if you don't know you need it! Happy that you've found each other!
The evolving relationship between you and the dog is absolutely beautiful. It looks like he has brought you pure happiness! (And how quickly that changed!) ❤
Definitely take him to the *nearest* vet to check for a microchip. It would have been easier to find the owner if you checked the towns adjacent to where you found him. People probably know each other in those small towns, so even if you didn't find the owner you might have some good leads after talking to just a few people. Also, if the dog is acting this way with you he's probably done something like this before and might have a reputation, making it even easier to find out where he belongs if you just talk to people. If no luck, leave him at the closest animal* shelter. You could probably stipulate that if the owner is not found you want to keep him. But you can't just keep him after a single afternoon of looking, you gotta give if it about a week, especially if you've walked him miles away from where he was found. It's irresponsible not to tag a dog, but you still need to try a bit harder to find the owner.
I’ve seen many dogs that tag along for a short time and this dog looks well cared for. I thought it was cool how fast you went from I don’t want a dog to I’m gonna keep him. If you’re going to keep him at least get a dog pack and make him carry his own food Good luck and I hope things work out for you and him
I'm glad you have a vet appt scheduled. They may find a microchip which can reunite the dog with its owner. As thrilling as this is for you, if I was this dog's owner, I can only imagine how terrifying these few days without my pup would be. That all being said, it's awesome to see how could of care you are giving him. We didn't see him in your Q&A vid, so if you are no longer together, I hope this experience has awoken a new love and appreciation for the potential of companionship that pups can provide.
There is a new kind of joy in your voice.... because of Tally. Dogs and hiking are a perfect match. He obviously digs your energy, that's why he is sticking with you. Hope it works out for you both to get able to stay together. ( I loved AT hiking with my dog )
I'm so glad you're enjoying hanging out with Tally and that you've made a special canine friend! So, so sweet. He seems to be really well-behaved and good-natured too. 😍🥰🐕 I can't believe he won you over either! I'm glad you're taking him to the vet. And if you've hiked the PCT, you can definitely look after a doggy.
Stella I love seeing you so happy with Tally !! He came into your life for a reason Dogs are wonderful companions now you won't have to hike alone So glad tally found you
Has Ramdino been told about this dog yet? www.youtube.com/@Ramdinohikes He could notify other hikers to be alert to anyone looking for the dog on the trail.
I agree 100000%! Tell Ramdino and send a video to him as well of the dog. Didn't he have that collar on him already. The other dog and this dog are probably from the same owner.
Such an absolute pleasure hosting you & Tally! I'm glad we had some good one-on-one chats about Tally. You are a true treasure to the trail! Keep that positive attitude! 👊, Pringles & Broccoli Rob
This is fantastic. He also could have ran away from a bad situation and has found home with you. This is a blessing to you both. A good vet check. Heart worm Check, flea and tick meds … I love seeing you two bond.
Awww 🥰 Stella! This story just keeps getting better and better! Even if Tally is reunited with his owners (and I’m so glad you’re going to do your due diligence to find out), please consider being becoming a dog mama. You have such a sweet and gentle heart. 💙
Dogs are like family. They are a lot of companionship and security. Looks like he chose a good new owner. Enjoy the hike and the friendship. Thanks for sharing.
Loving this story. Life works in funny ways and this dog was exactly what you needed! As others have said hopefully he is chipped and you find the owner, but agreed a dog might be what Nyx needs
That dog is awesome. You look happy, even though in another video you said you werent a dog person. Dogs are awesome companions. Great video and scenery. Dogs make the world a better place.
So funny! Spent the day yesterday hoping when the dog wandered off he wouldn't come back.. Day 2 named him and then worried he was going to get lost every time he wandered off just being a dog. I think he was rethinking his life choices when he got that bath. LOL! Such a mellow dog. Trying to find the owner was the right thing to do. You have a good heart.
Can’t wait for the continuing pup saga! End result, whichever that may be, will be wonderful! Either the vet finds a chip and he’s returned to a loving owner, or you get to rescue an amazing pup 🐶 Go Tally 👏👏👏
Dogs are the greatest companions. Daisy goes on all my hikes and we have the most amazing conversations lol. She’s my best friend. It’s surprising how quickly you bond with them and how fast you feel responsible for their safety. ❤
tally is so good with bathtime! my lil dog hates baths. she growls and sometimes even snaps at me. and when i try to dry her w a towel she runs away and then runs thru the apartment is super fast zoomy circles for liked 20 minutes. tally is a good boy. i'm glad you got to spend a little time and happiness w him. you did a good job
I love that you have embraced this sweet puppy on your journey! The trail will provide. ❤️ He seems so well behaved. Surely his owner is missing him. I know they will be so happy that have taken him in.
Everything happens for a reason!!! And you have a new hiking buddy. And I told you he knows a beautiful lovely soul and he sees that in you ❤️💙 Your smile and happiness is overflowing!!! The bond that's forming is beautiful and he's your hiking pal, your guardian and best friend ❤️ I hope he stays and you both summit Katahdin together. Be the greatest feel good story this year on the trail... Lots of love, happy footsteps and wonderful vibes to you both 👣🐾✌️🍀👍💚
❤❤❤SO EXCITED FOR YOU STELLA!!! Tally is so PRECIOUS!!! Those falls were so pretty!! I would want to stay there and play in them if it was warm enough😂 Enjoy that beautiful pup🥰🥰🥰🥰
Keep the dog! EVERYTHING about your vlog today is better! You're singing while you hike for goodness' sakes. It looks to be a match that was designed for perfection.
He definitely seems like someone’s tracking dog with all his sniffing.. keep doing your due diligence to find his owner .. he has brought joy to you and your hiking
Noticed he's not neutered, lol. Watch for ticks on him. I list my dog to Lyme disease from a tick in Wrst Virginia mountains. There are pills you can get from vet that will help prevent while on trail. By the time I saw symptoms in my dog it was too late. He's a sweetheart.
By far one of the best AT VLOGS EVER. Your whimsical giggles and sighs are infectious. Dog is spelled God in reverse coincidentally . It reminds me of the unconditional love and faithfulness our Creator has for us. A wagging town makes everything better.
A lot of people acquired pets during the lockdown in the pandemic and once things re-opened and people went back to work, the animals got dropped off at shelters and/or unfortunately released into the wild. It's a very fortunate thing that the two of you found each other!
OMG, I was so excited when I saw you were still together !!!! You are a natural dog owner !!! It didnt take him long to win you over !! Lol ❤❤ Hes the perfect hiking dog ❤❤
I'm so far behind but I've never, ever seen a dog attach to it's hooman so easy. I'll catch up in a few days. I hope Tally stays with you. You've been literally giddy since you've accepted him. The ninja onions have invaded my eyes. Y'all belong together, it's kismet.
I’m sure you are releasing these behind real-time. I hope you’ve already taken these steps, but if not- you need to get Tally to the vet. He’s got some gray on his muzzle so he might need a little extra ‘help’ to make it the rest of the way to Katahdin. First and foremost- full due diligence does include scanning him for a microchip. Most of the time, even if animals are chipped, you might not be able to locate their owners. But- to be able to truly claim him as your companion, you do need to take that step. (Lots of rescues and shelters can scan a dog for a chip, too…) As others have said- you’ll want to get him on flea and tick prevention as well as heartworm prevention. (The last thing you want is fleas, which could be easily picked up in shelters where the fleas have hatched and there are no longer mice to host them. A dog with a flea/tick infestation is going to become anemic and unable to keep up.) He’ll also need to be vaccinated for rabies and DHLPP. Until you know he’s had the DHLPP vaccination, make absolutely certain that he doesn’t drink out of any still/standing water pools. Leptospirosis is no joke for our canine companions. As far as possible ‘help’ to make sure he can make it to Katahdin- I’d look for a good joint supplement and maybe some paw wax. He looks like he’s up to doing 25 miles a day, but his body will wear just like ours do on the trail, unless it’s well cared for with good food and care. You’re going to be a fabulous dog mom. ❤I look forward to seeing this journey continue!
You are so cute with the dog. Going from saying you don't like dogs and you are allergic to them to considering keeping the dog. It was a lovely day for a hike. Keep trekking. 😀
The way the dog looks at water and sniffing around I'm wondering if the owner got swept away or something bad happened. Thank you for the hike beautiful waterfalls and rushing water. You're a blessing to that sweet dog.
Looks like you got adopted by a good dog. I don't own a dog but they are great have had a few in the past some of my favorite friends are dogs. Great video.
First, you seem so much happier with Tally. :-) Regardless of if you have to give him back to his owner(s), I'm glad you have discovered the joys of dog ownership, even if you never have a dog yourself. It gives you a way to better relate to dog owners out there, which I'm guessing you probably didn't fully understand their commitment sometimes. As a dog owner myself, despite all the comments saying 'just leave him', I would be so very grateful that someone like you found and cared for my dog if he was lost, despite how much I was looking for him, rather than him just wandering aimlessly. Once reunited, I don't think I'd ever be able to show the full extent of my gratitude. So on behalf of Tally's owners - thank you so VERY much! ❤ In case the owners are never found, you do end up keeping Tally, some quick suggestions for you, other than the basic vet visit, shots/flea & tick medicine, id tag/collar id, etc, that others have mentioned. (And I see you already have a vet appointment, like a good 'dog mom'. LOL For dog food - Purina Pro Plan Sport Performance 30/20 is excellent, but has to be ordered. ( You could order, then split the bag up and forward portions to further post offices.) It is 30% protein, 20% fat, specifically formulated for high performance dogs (think sled dogs...). Just like humans, dogs walking/running long distances day after day after day need higher calories/fat/protein. If you don't use something like this, you will have to feed (therefore carry) more of any normal food as he will need more to maintain his health than he would if not so active. Another suggestion, although I have no personal experience with this one, is a freeze dried food (so it weighs less in your pack, but you have to hydrate it). I've read that Open Farm is one some hikers use. They make both kibble, and patties. The patties would be handy to just give one during your lunch break. Another hiker I've seen just gives a chicken, tuna or salmon packet to her dog during her lunch break - much cheaper and easier than the freeze dried patty option. My dog is small, so I usually give him a few bites of my lunch meat/cheese, whatever it may be. You don't want him too full during the day of hiking - it will make him sluggish (think about how you feel after a big meal - you just want to take a nap. 😄 Kibble for morning and evening. Although rehydrating kibble morning and evening is a bit of a pain, while hiking, I soak my dog's kibble anyway, even though he just eats dry kibble normally. Soaking it in water gives them a bit more hydration, but more importantly, will the biggest issue with feeding dry food - vomiting. When hiking, you are training your dog to eat all their food once in the morning, and once in the evening. Dry food in their stomach then soaks up all the water they drink immediately after eating, that dry food expands, and it has to go somewhere - usually up and out. At home, my dog snacks on his kibble throughout the day or evening. On trail, soaking it first makes him eat it all at once, so he is getting enough to eat, but since it is already 'swollen' when he eats it, and it has water so he doesn't drink as much right away after eating, he won't vomit it up. I'm not sure if many dogs are this way - but just be aware. Another thing you probably should pick up and have on hand is a salve for his paws - Musher's Secret is good, although I have no experience with that either, because I make my own paw salve. Another thought - he's been intact for his whole life. He will roam/run off the first whiff of a female in heat. At this point, even having him neutered now won't stop that - it's too engrained at this point. So just be aware, and be ready, for him to run off if not on leash. His sense of smell is something we as humans can't even begin to come close to. One final thought - he is rather large for you to be hoisting him up rebar ladders, etc. - so I wouldn't suggest an emergency lift harness. I would suggest however, you drop him off with me in NH so you can hike the Whites without him. 😄 My email is available on my channel. Honestly, feel free to contact me! Since he can't go into Baxter, and carrying enough food for him through the 100 mile wilderness would be way too heavy, happy to keep him from VT/NH to the end of your hike.
Such a great friend you've made with Tali! Gear I'd recommend for him if you continue backpacking with him ... pack (Ruffwear Palisades), lightweight dog jacket (climate changer by Ruffwear is great because it zips so it'll stay on if Tali is restless during the night), sea to summit collapsible bowls work great for food and water bowls (though honestly 99% of the time my pup drinks out of the streams or water sources), and one of the GG Thinlight pads work great as a dog bed when in your tent. I'd also recommend some sort of light that would clip to a collar especially if you plan on night hiking. I use a retractable leash that I loop through my pack hip belt. Also, I keep my dogs jacket and blanket in a dry sack since she loves getting in the water with her pack. Happy trails!
OMG! I usually watch your video in the afternoon when I get home from work but I just had to watch it to find out what you did about the dog. OMG THE ADVENTURES OF NYX AND TALLY SHOW 😅.That so awesome. You can get him is own backpack and have him carry some of his food to save on weight in yours. You can get one at a Pets Smart or Chewy on line. Keep a good eye on him. Hounds like to wonder and their nose gets them into trouble when it comes to chasing small animals. That's how they get lost. I think this is so wonderful you two found each other. Can't wait for more adventure videos with you two. Keep heading north you two! 🐕🚶♀️🎒🏕⛰👍
Can't say I've ever looked forward to a through-hiker episode - must-see tv vlog - to see how things turn out. Even the impending MacAfee knobs or Katahdin' you kinda know what's going to happen. This?, a story with a crazy plot twist. There is something visceral about seeing someone completely happy even as a casual observer, it makes you happy too. Yeah, the AT is always the AT whether it rains or snows or the sun shines, it's really about how the personalities deal with the particular year, seems like a lot of good catharsis here however this turns out.
It sounds like a crazy great plan. 😊 You seem so happy with him. I can’t think of a better companion for a hike. You can do it. Just subscribed and will be cheering you on from TN!
The scenic and the path was so beautiful today 😍 I can't believe you found this dog 🐕 😅 tally is such a good companion for you be is a really dog I think he was looking for a fish 🐟 dinner in the river 😂💚
I've rarely seen such a radical transformation from one day to the next! You really need to be a dog mama. If it doesn't work out with this dog, I hope you know what you need to do after you finish your hike (get a dog!). There is one fairly popular book by an AT hiker who hiked the trail with his dog. Unfortunately I don't remember the title, but you might want to look for it at the hostels.
This is a wonderful new part of your journey on the AT. In a way it is a blessing he found you after the Smokies so you won't have to find a shuttle for him. HIke on Stella and Tally!!

I love that your story has this wrinkle in it. Dog friends are the most uncomplicated and unconditional.

The trail always teaches us what we need to know about ourselves.
The transformation from anxiety to joy on your face the last two videos has been really interesting! Whether or not the owners eventually connect with you or not, I hope you have a positive experience and enjoy your time on trail with Tally!

I hiked the AT with a black lab named gunner (1994 and 1995).
It was a joy hiking with him. He was more popular than I was on trail 😊
How much of an inconvenience was it to carry the dog food?
On or off leash? I’d love to take mine but I’m afraid she’d take off.
What joy Tally brings to you, Stella. Continue your journey and continue to be a dog mom. Bringing him to vet is a wise idea. Wishing you the best. Forever onward young lady and Tallyho😊🐶👍

It is not a hunting dog. Hunting dogs don't follow humans. The dog belongs to an AT hiker, and I'm sure they will be reunited soon.

That dog is awesome. You look happy, even though in another video you said you werent a dog person. Dogs are awesome companions. Great video and scenery. Dogs make the world a better place.
Your transformation has been amazing. He adopted you, and you adopted him. Quite a match. By far, the happiest I've seen you.
I think you’ve found your soulmate! Thank you, bless you for being so kind❤️
So you're a dog person in less than a day. Awesome
Stella, now your not alone. Tali obeys so well!!! CONGRATS DOG MOM!!!
I am so happy to see that you "adopted" the dog! 😍😍😍❤❤❤
My friend did the whole AT with a dog and they are best friends! It was a great experience for her, I hope it goes well for you!
Thank you for loving Tally! He’s a lucky pup!
😊😊 you look so happy to have a hiking buddy. He will keep you safe and protect you. Take care. 😊😊❤
I love that you have a companion now!! Dogs are the best and the bond you two have is incredible. So proud of you Stella ❤️
I love that you have embraced this sweet puppy on your journey! The trail will provide. ❤️ He seems so well behaved. Surely his owner is missing him. I know they will be so happy that have taken him in.
Everything happens for a reason!!!
And you have a new hiking buddy.
And I told you he knows a beautiful lovely soul and he sees that in you ❤️💙
Your smile and happiness is overflowing!!!
The bond that's forming is beautiful and he's your hiking pal, your guardian and best friend ❤️
I hope he stays and you both summit Katahdin together.
Wow! A new trail companion! Best wishes to you! It sounds like you have a solid plan!!
He definitely seems like someone’s tracking dog with all his sniffing.. keep doing your due diligence to find his owner .. he has brought joy to you and your hiking
Wow! What a turn of events.
I hope you’ve gotten him to the vet to have him checked over. Keep an eye on his paw pads. Happy hiking!✌️
IVE NEVER SEEN YOU DO HAPPY. YOU ARE GLOWING
Lol ❤❤
Hes the perfect hiking dog ❤❤
This hike is beautiful! I’m happy you all got to share it together! ❤
You will get the hang of it. The universe has a plan for you and I am glad you’re accepting it.❤
I'm so far behind but I've never, ever seen a dog attach to it's hooman so easy.
Stella, Take good care of Tali and yourself and keep flashing that smile.
You're a natural! Bath time was so special.
Glad to see you with your new fried. You seem lot more happy how. Being a dig-owner I know how it feels to love a pet and get unconditional love back.
🙂 Truly heartwarming video. I love the unspoken bond with animals. It's very powerful. It's awesome to see you bubbling with joy. ✌️
You are so cute with the dog. Going from saying you don't like dogs and you are allergic to them to considering keeping the dog. It was a lovely day for a hike. Keep trekking. 😀
Hello Stella; some great self discovery. Thank you for sharing this fun journey with the world. good times. best wishes.
Loved this video and seeing how much happiness your new friend has brought to you!
The way the dog looks at water and sniffing around I'm wondering if the owner got swept away or something bad happened. Thank you for the hike beautiful waterfalls and rushing water. You're a blessing to that sweet dog.
Take the dog to a Vet. And have it checked for a chip
In case the owners are never found, you do end up keeping Tally, some quick suggestions for you, other than the basic vet visit, shots/flea & tick medicine, id tag/collar id, etc, that others have mentioned. (And I see you already have a vet appointment, like a good 'dog mom'. LOL
For dog food - Purina Pro Plan Sport Performance 30/20 is excellent, but has to be ordered.
Dogs are the best companions! 🐶❤️
The trail always gives what you need. This will be a memory you will cherish
This is a wonderful new part of your journey on the AT. In a way it is a blessing he found you after the Smokies so you won't have to find a shuttle for him. HIke on Stella and Tally!!
