I gotta say i love how versatile your videos are, i know alot of stuff from being a service tech but your videos are great ideas thrown into video, keep up the great vids buddy
He is using the tool correctly. It's a great tool for the mud truck guys and sandrail guys. I've personally used the same tool to cut a set of ground hawg mud tires into a V tread style tire.
I have the same tool works great, you can make old wore out tires work great. Also great for removing weight from tires I took well over 100lbs off my boggers cut them like paddles. Paid $60 ebay
My "Crazy Mad Scientist" friend is still at it. I got home from two months in the bush, and now its time to catch up. You say in this video that a guy could get more done with smaller bites or cuts, a guy could get whole whack load done if he enlisted the wife and kids I just put my Harley away for the winter, instead of storing it in the garage, I put it in the wifes sewing room. I told her it would be great way to bond.....LOL Good to see ya my friend!
I just cut them with a sharp wood chisel(?) And some dish soap(?) with water mix. If you got a good and sharp 1 you wil just cut trough rubber pretty easy. We did lots of car tyres like that for dirt track racing. And to see if the small steps is faster just go watch the video with some kind of timing device and you will know it.
Twice is faster than once . They work well but take some time. Saw a guy make a jig he attached to a electric chainsaw ,and used it to cut his big truck tires .
Have u seen those other type tool that is in effect the same as that but used to re-square the tread on ur motocross tyre it's like a super heated chistle looks good tho think u could get quite intrecuit with that good video! And grate bit of kit
What could be done with this tool is to cut just a bit of the knob from a worn mx tire along the front edge to give it a sharp edge again. It would be a smaller knob then overall but traction would return
i've seen guys flip the blades around and it cuts little sipe slices in them for icy/wet/winter conditions, nearing winter.. just thought you could try it and do a video (before & after) to see how well it works on some old summer tires for your truck. just wondering if it works.
a buddy and i used a similar groover on a set of 44s... we used cut down razor blades.... it work really well... much faster than yours... it must have got hotter
Groovy tool Grouta1 like the improvised hanger u made. I knew tire cutters/groovers existed but this is a first to see one in action. Wicked cool. Are you thinking that the outside ribs provide structural integrity to the tire?
if you don't have the tool , one can heat a blade of choosing, and do 1 cut at a time. I make my own bushings, there is no tool. I use torch and use vise grips to hold hot cutter. That is a nifty one, all ready to go.
Hey Mr. One, where'd you scoop that one from? I need to grab me one for bike tires as well... Or hell my grandfather probably has 500 sipes. You've replace the 465 rear tire then, eh?
Nice. Hey can you help me with a video on how to rebuild your CR500? Like tke it apart and put it back together, what parts you used, etc? I cant find any vids on how you take it apart peice by peice. Please Reply!
looks a lot easier to control then a knobby knife.... as cheap as i am i should pick one up for extending the life of street tires, but that requires spending money
i wouldnt hang it from the vice either. they steal heat like sonsobiatchos, making the heating process atleast twice as long. ever tried soldering on them? same thing (atleast for me) =)
What about your CR500 AC? I have 89' 500 that im restoring. Im trying to put updated stuff on mine. Ive got 8000 put back for it. I just want to see how you did yours and what parts you got that are best. I have no clue on rebuilding a bike, i just know its chepaer than a shop doing it and keeping it forever. Please Reply! I need some help before this next race in month and half! Thanks Groutaone!
I've been wondering the exact purpose for these groove cutters on mx tires, ive seen tons of ads for them in mx magizines. I mean a knob is a knob right? I cant see how it would increase traction or anything like that. I understand how it would work with large tires like so.
Look up for any videos on any 2 stroke motocross bike (I would say that there is not that much difference between a 250 and a 500. Look up on youtube how to pull apart or rebuild a 250 2 stroke or even maybe a 125 - It must be a Cr, Yz, Kx, Rm, Sx because they are most likely similar unlike roadbikes.) If that doesn't work look up on google. There is most likely an explanation on how to do that. Google is most likely to give you an answer than youtube. Good luck man
this has been an industry accepted practice for commercial truck tires (semi trucks) and mud tires and tires on construction equipment since the 60's. it is illegal to do this to regular passenger car tires. tires that can be regrooved will usually have "regroovable" somewhere near the d.o.t. code or ply rating of the tire. they make blade depth gauges so that you don't cut too deep. hope this helped a few people. be tire smart, play your p.a.r.t. exactly what did you mean at 3:08? lol, JK, and this video just makes me glad ive stuck to using my grinder for grooving tires. far quicker, but a tad dirtier.
@manofweed1 : If they are careful and do some research , i don't see why they can not do this in their shed. I make garden tractor wheels like this from old car tyre. never had any problem.
actually it can be done to a car tyre, just make sure you don't go too deep. they use these sort of things especially on truck tyres because they have a thicker layer of rubber to cut into
it can be safely done. those grooving tools have adjustable depths so you just have to pick a shallow setting and make sure you don't go too close to the wire layer. I'm sure it is highly illegal but it's not as dangerous as you seem to think

I've looked up a dozen videos to see if this tool would be worth the $75 to buy it and this is by far the best video I've found. Gotta get one now
I haven't seen a tire groover in 40 years!! Used Car Dealers use to regroove all their junkers!! Good stuff Bud!!☺
That's really quite an impressive performance from that tool. Thanks for showing it in use.

Thanks, the ribs provide support to the tread helping to keep them from folding over too much and also helping in the corners
Nice tool, seems to work pretty good!

Cool Tool!! Thanks for the review!

Yes I have a CR500 but I don't want to tear it down at this time, I might do the top end later in winter but that's about it

Very nice ,maybe look at some close ups of lizard, insect, octopus limbs and get some tread patterns?

How would a chain saw work for this with a dedicated "tire blade"?
Really cool tool!

Thanks, not in person but I can picture it, blue with a steel round tube monoshock swing arm

Should do the trick, which tires do you have?
You want to get you a dental pick for getting the scrap out of the groove. Dental picks come in handy with O rings too.
cool , I'm glad you did this video , i have been looking at getting one of these to revive my mud tires.

Great video. Have you ever seen a 1980 yamaha 175 enduro

I would gladly make some videos on that problem is I don't have a 500 engine that I want to tear down at this time

Pretty cool
i always wondered how those worked

flipping the blade and pulling it instead?
Cool, bet them boggers work awesome for you
what did that run you .. the bogger tires could use a groove lol
1. is it safe? (due to tire pressure)
2. is on road or off road is suitable?
3 . what type of tire can be done ?
+kamil azharul First off I'm not a genius but.
1. On "regroovabled" tires yes
2. Depends on the tire.
3. Labeled "regroovable"
That would work well also
Thanks for that
Indeed lol, put em to work for some family bonding ha ha

def not for daily vehicles. tire would be so unbalanced!
great off offroad use!!

These are about sixty bucks, ok for small jobs not the best for big jobs
Cool
These aren't too bad, 60 bucks or so
Flat head should be that long lost technology. That only people hear from someone who now someone old
can i do this with regular tires ?
no absolutely not and i was thinkind there were no stupid qeustions in this existance yet i found one
***** right have fun bursting your tires
actually it can be done to a car tyre, just make sure you don't go too deep. they use these sort of things especially on truck tyres because they have a thicker layer of rubber to cut into
lachysv8 actually no because your damaging a tire that was in no way meant for this weakening its strongest points you need special tires end of story
it can be safely done. those grooving tools have adjustable depths so you just have to pick a shallow setting and make sure you don't go too close to the wire layer. I'm sure it is highly illegal but it's not as dangerous as you seem to think
So hot it's cool.
Have you ever used this REMA Regroover? Or have you worked with any other regroovers?

The trouble with videos like this, is that someone somewhere is actually going to try doing something like this in their shed !
+manofweed1 i dont have a shed!
