Same it's been well over 10 years for me but I did tune in to Divorce in the Black becuz I wanted to support Meagan and Corey. I've been stepping beside MG ever since Eve's Bayou (fav movie) so he knew what he was doing casting people we all know love and want to support. But the storyline was shaky at best. The actors acted down but the plot was missing the mark. I think it's too late for him to branch out now as in collaborating with goats like Denzel, Donald Glover, Jordan Peele or Ryan Coogler because TP has typecast himself and is almost a laughing stock in the entertainment industry. Madea was a good breakout character for him but he beat the gimmick like a dead horse. A solid 10 years ago he should have leveled up. He could have been taken seriously like TP could have done record breaking films like Black Panther if he played his cards right about 15 years ago. We all wanted to support his plays and movies back in the day it's hard to see him embarrass his community constantly like Sir WE ARE TIRED 😩😩😩😩

I think got excited for his movies because of Madea. But found his other stuff was very detrimental to the black culture. It’s interesting because although most of his project have a WHOLE lot of truth to them. I still feel that he is so benefiting off a people’s plit. The show Oval just pisses me off. The show Sistas, I could watch. But Lonni is correct in speaking her truth.

Because it breathes life into social stereotypes. That's like saying if you don't like current female rap because it's mostly about using their 🙀 to" get the bag" so just don't listen when it's not that simple. These forms of entertainment are being put on display to the world with black faces attached and thus create the perception of us to them. Why do you think the word "hood" or "ghetto" is immediately associated with black? Because that's what majority of the media and movies portray.
So "not watching" does not change that. Putting out a variety or something new/different does and that's why people like Loni are saying what they say.

This isn't something like the color blue where if you like it and I don't there's no wrong. This is a narrative constantly being pushed about a certain demographic. That our kids speak disrespectfully and have no fathers, that our dark skinned men are verbally and physically abusive, that our women are either mean to each other or on the opposing end of that being insecure. Like Tyler Perry movies have become the new black trauma medium that slave movies once occupied where people got tired of the o ly black movies winning awards or doing good was w/blacks as slaves. She’s always someone’s love interest whether on film or irl and doesn’t show much range to be anything other than that. So many things to stand up for right now, and all we’ve seen is her peddling around over the years is a book about abstinence, a movie parodying a failed marriage, and using her press tour to defend an abuser. I would love to see her do something more “significant” at this point in her 30 year career. This is probably why she hasn’t been getting paid the best - and Tyler made a movie fully casted with ppl from high profile divorces. It’s a publicity cash cow for him per usual and she was the happy-to-do vessel.

A lesson I've learned in my life when a woman feels the need to constantly defend her man; something negative is going on in the relationship. Wishing them all the best but still watching and waiting...

I enjoyed the movie. Good to see people from our community working. Being able to put food on their tables providing for their families. Is Hollywood trying to employ a lot of these black actors?

Truthfully the writing of the movie was awful. I enjoyed some of the acting including Corey’s but the movie was just not good. Tyler needs to collaborate with other writers to improve them. The actors look terrible because of the writing.

People are valid in their opinions, but Tyler is very successful. He has fostered a very niche audience and fan base that supports his work.
