  • UPDATED VERSION (2.1) HERE: • Battlestar Galactica "...
I present to you a mini Battlestar Galactica fan film I have been toiling away at for the past 4 or so months. I am releasing this as "version 1.0" as I don't feel it's complete yet, but after 4 months of grueling work I'm ready for people to at least see the progress. This is not for the purists as, yes, I'm aware there are many inaccuracies. It's not about that. It's for those who, like me, can still channel their inner 12 year old - playing with toys. Only these toys are in digital form. That has been my guiding principle through all this. I've invested a huge amount of time, money for new equipment and software, etc. More to come as I will continue to work towards completing this. So please enjoy and remember to crank up the sound!

THAT'S the Galactica I grew up with as a kid. It's my _favorite_ starship of all the Sci Fi genres. And the original Anthem of the Colonies! Love it! It still moves me to tears with its beauty and majesty.

THIS work gives me all the feels from my childhood... This is such a lovingly and respectfully made tribute... No notes. Perfect composition. Perfect deep Stu Phillips' music cuts. Outstanding in every way... I almost made it all the way through without crying... Until the distant overhead shot of the Galactica and fleet transversing the nova... The very subtle shadows cast by the Galactica.... Sublime. Much respect to you Peter Hirschberg... Thanks for the joy you gave to me just now.

Galactica is a fine piece of Sci Fi Art...In 79-80, and 2003. Being retired US Navy. IT was clear to me, that the production and art crews for both series took ques from existing Carrier Tech, in designing the Battlestar design. Inside, and out. And there was particular detail to the interior sets and props, for the 04 re boot...

    Gosh-dang this is good!
The only reason in know this isn’t original dykstra footage is because it’s so vibrant. And that’s a compliment. If you muddied the lens and bit (and i am NOT remotely suggesting you should) no one would know the difference. That’s how spot on I found it to be!
It would be a pure vanity project, and i doubt this would up the original series “street cred” by wide enough a margin to make it universally profitable, but what you’ve done here is proof positive the original show’s effects can be redone without losing an ounce of it’s 1970’-80’s charm and innovation!
If i didn’t make myself abundantly clear, I LOVE THIS! Thank you and well done!

Why, because people like Phil kneejerk react to CGI reworks with "CGI SUCKS!".
Plus, remastering would have required several million dollars more for even a half-assed attempt.
I do think that STTOS needs another render for current 2K. Noting that much of Trek was on 16mm, 4K and 2K scans will be capturing original film grain; oBSG was largely 35mm IIRC, (Part of why it was as expensive as it was) so a 4K remaster of the scan may be worth it (but higher, such as theatrical 8k-24k will have caught the film grain).

And the way that power and magnitude is then applied to those scenes of the Big-G performing its actual, vital mission---leading that rag-tag fleet of defenseless civilian ships---really reminds the viewer of what's at stake in this saga. Awesome. All the old feelings and emotions of the original came flooding back. In my head, I could even hear the opening narration of Patrick Macnee, Count Iblis and Lorne Greene, Adama. You nailed all those memorable scenes, like the shuttle landing, the Viper launches, Cylon Base Stars, Cylon launches, perfectly timed music, cuts, everything, just wow.
Peter, you don't know me, but I've followed your work for years, like the Vertibird Simulator, LED games, the iPad Battlezone like game Vector Tanks, your old Arcade, etc. I've silently been a fan and find it a bit unnerving how similar we seem to be, although you are definitely more accomplished, my hat goes off to you sir.
Watching your video of old computers, I noticed the Bambino UFO Master Blaster Station in the background, one of my favorite games, I still have mine. I also still have my mint Vertibird Air Police, and I'm working on building a modest Arcade. I hope to have an old shrine to my old 8bits like the Amiga 1000, 500, 3000, Atari 800, Apple II etc. For now, they're all boxed up.
When not programming, I'm modeling, using Blender and Caligari trueSpace, mostly for 3D printing, and Newtek Lightwave back in the Amiga Newtek Video Toaster days. DaVinci Resolve is growing on me. BTW - I still have my Entex Galaxian and Merlin. There are just too many fun things to do like flying drones and helis, and far too little time to do it all. Now, back to watching Star Blazers.

Awesomely well done! I loved every second of it. That's real Battlestar Galactica, the way it was done originally. Thank you so much and please continue to make more. Love seeing those Cylon Raiders explode!!!

    Please excuse me!
I'm in the midst of PICKING MY JAW UP FROM the FLOOR!
    I've just finished watching "Perseverance 2.0". And I am abso-effing-lutely GOB-SMACKED!
To describe your videos as a 'Tribute' to Mr. Glen Larson, is a insult to the word 'understatement'!
Hell! Even the freaking BRITISH, who are MASTERS of understatement, would tip their hats to you on this production.
Please, Pretty PLEASE! With SUGAR on it ! Promise that you're producing MORE of these EPICS!

That was well done! I love the attention to detail of the "old girl" (Galactica) as well as the Colonial Vipers and the Cylon Raiders. This is what I was giddy for every Sunday night in 1978 as a kid. Long live the Galactica!! So say we all!! May the Lords of Kobol be with you always.....

OMG this is AMAZING!!!! if the 70's had CGI then this would be how it would have looked like. Truly amazing in every way, the attention to detail and sounds, music absolute perfection!
if this is 1.0 2.0 will be cinematic perfection! well done!!!

Thanks for this and allowing my inner Galactican to dredge up memories from my earlier years, of many joyous moments rooting for Apollo, Starbuck, Sheba, Boomer and so many others to get of one last laser blast to take out a raider. Immense respect for your skill and dedication, and thanks to your long suffering wife to allow you to share this with all of us. From the UK, a fan of THE Galactica.

That was pretty amazing, as someone who grew up on the original series. You're true to it. But I also absolutely loved that last sequence from a bird's-eye view of the Galactica leading the fleet through that nebula, showing how precarious their situation was and how tiny they were despite the strength of the Galactica. Hearing the new age music mixed with it which was something we didn't really hear in the original series was also special to get that perspective. Please do more of that!

@5m 35s That close-up fly by of Galactica against the red backdrop then pans away to show the rest of the fleet as insignificant specks against the hugeness of that red planet an the expanse of the universe itself. Mind-blowing. Can’t wait to tune into next week’s episode o7

now all i need is the Battlestar Galactica to rescue the people of moon base Alpha from space 1999 because in my mind set that is what happens.
