I was disappointed when the plastic one showed up, and 6 months later it was always in my head that I had settled for the garbage part. I wound up paying like $50 for the OEM, and am super happy now to be rid of that plastic…
I used to set my bugs gas gauge by adding one gallon, setting the gauge to empty. That way when it hit that mark, I knew I had a gallon of gas left. I wanted to know when I was almost out of gas more than knowing that my tank was full. Nice bug btw. I had 3 myself.
Good thinking. So I set the GoPro on the steering wheel and then while watching the preview on the iPhone I could move the gauge float all the way from full to empty and back, while watching the gauge.
I try always try to buy oem parts for all my vehicles! Is a win win in the end, don’t have to deal with the headaches that comes later after putting aftermarket crap on a car! You’ll pay more! But is way worth it in the end. Great job 👏
Yes! Sometimes the aftermarket stuff is better - for example some Wolfsburg West stuff I’d good, and I love my CSP Python. But somehow this fuel gauge was embarrassingly crappy.
The GoPro with the iPhone worked great to see the gauge while moving the float from full to empty (you can ouch the float down into a full tank and watch the gauge)!
I got mine off eBay. I think it is 113-919-031. There are some on thesamba too. www.ebay.com/itm/166246344118 or www.thesamba.com/vw/classifieds/detail.php?id=2635261
Thanks for the PSA on the POS. Don’t worry about the language, we’ve all been there.

I was wondering how to adjust the fuel gauge as I have just fitted a new float / sender. This video is perfect.

Look closely at the photos to ensure it is the metal housing on the back with the slanted tube for the light to go in…
